This has probably been posted like 100000x but from your experiences, give one Cuban that smokes well young and one that needs to be aged to be enjoyed properly.

I’m going to agree w @rcarlson

young the Jl1 (and dare I say the JL2) are really nice. If you can let them age though you will be rewarded.

Aged - perhaps it was a unicorn, but I’m still chasing a 10 year old BRC I had last fall. It was a single as part of a larger singles purchase of aged stock. But wow. I am a flavor and value hound, and this was right up my alley. Two boxes in back of my Coolidor aging now.

Young - PLPC

Aged - PLPC

Interesting but different both ways.

In general for aged I’d say it would be any Cohiba. It really makes a big difference.

I think I am definitely going to agree with the statements above on the that needs to be aged. I think the PLPC goes through such a transition after the 4-5year mark, it is worth the wait for them to mature and in my opinion a waste to burn away such potential when young. I really enjoy a young Partagas in general, but I think the Serie D no 4 and Serie P no 2 are cigars that are full of flavors that play together so well when young.

Great young- Partagas Serie P no 2

Needs to be aged- PLPC

Young - Regios, and The A's were good fresh.

Middle - 3 to 5 years, Upman, Juan Lopez, Monte, Partagas, San Cristobal, Trinidad.

Aged - Bolivar, Cohiba, Hoyo, RYJ, Por Larranaga, V Robania.

Personally, I feel 4 to 5 years is a sweet spot for flavors in all Cubans to balance and become less muted. I usually plan for at least 3 years to begin to see how they are really coming along.

Wanted a minuto after lunch, reached for a SC El Principe that i was given (box code unknown) and it was just rancid and bitter. I got some sweetness from it but the taste just kept changing puff after puff. I know with SC you dont really have to age but this was disppointing. Didnt even bother finishing it because it just kept going out.

Best when young?  Rich, dense cigars - Ramon Allones (thinking RASS and Extras), Party D4s, dark Dip 2's, etc.  My young pick would have been RA Club Allones when they came out though.

My likes for aged?  Finessed, lighter, smoother cigars - thinking LGC, QdO, H Upmann Sir Winnies, etc.  Aged Trinidad anything for my pick (Fundadores and Robustos T are tops)

But my favourite pick, hands down, everytime?  When in Cuba especially, would be young (read - INFANTILE), fresh-off-the-table custom rolls.  If it has under 30-days on it, PERFECT.  Such a different beast when you get to experience them like this.  Monsdales custom rolls.  If I'm able, I'd pick these young, every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
