There are certain cigars that, if I am smoking more than one a day, I have to smoke first. This is because their flavors have a subtlety that my palate cannot appreciate as much if they are not the first of the day. Others I can smoke on a fried palate and still completely discern and enjoy their nuances.

First smokes only for me: Trinidad, Ramon Allones, Cohiba

Second/anytime smokes: montecristo, H Upmann, RyJ

I am sure there are others but these come to mind

Anybody else have similar feelings about this?

I understand where you’re coming from, though I’ll always pick a vitola that fits my schedule over any particular brand. Trinidad’s are fantastic morning smokes (or any other time). Smoking a Cohiba in the morning feels a bit too extravagant though I’ve been known to indulge myself on occasion.

Of course right now it’s so darn humid here that smoking in the morning at all has become a luxury.

Definitely reach for a milder cigar if I have a two cigar day. My second cigar would almost always be a nicaraguan powerhouse. Number two can’t have too much nuance or subtlety. I think I get palette fatigue quicker than most.

I’ve never really had a cigar totally destroy my palate. At least not for an entire day. If I want to smoke 2 in a row, usually an apple or orange resets the palate well enough.

I always smoke the best cigar first.

Funny thing about me. I never think about what a cigar tastes like before picking it. I just don't look at cigars that way.

Now I might say... 'the last one of those was kinda' bland... and that one was really good...' pushing me to one over another. I just don't have this mindset... What is good with coffee, what with gin, what at 4500 MSL shooting squirrels... etc...

A good cigar is a good cigar. I look at vitola and the time I would spend smoking. I don't go thinking I want a 'hit' of tobacco and then reach for a DC. I would say I choose vitola over the individual cigar choice.

i'll do this a little but for me it's more about not smoking a really good cigar, i want to taste all the nuances in and don't have many of, after i have already smoked that day. other than that it's mostly about vitola and time constraints for me, maybe sometimes pairings on special occasions when i'm drinking or eating something really good

I will generally choose lighter cigars earlier in the day. My palate seems to be more sensitive earlier than later. And especially if I plan on smoking back to back I'll smoke the lighter cigar first.

Typically lighter blends (Q d'O, ERDM, Fonseca, HdM, Diplo, LGC) or any cigar with many years on it.

I should clarify that Mag 46 is always a late day smoke.....54 and Connie are weekend mornings and lunch smokes when I have them.
