Oh I get what your saying.  You’re just not getting human nature.  When real economic pain hits, in about a month, most won’t give a rat’s ass what you or any expert says.  They will start looting.

When it hits the fan, people care more about their family and providing for them over strangers.  It will happen.

How long do you really think those in service industry can last?  I know, I was once one of them.  Most not more then a month or two, max.

no doubt there will be some but i simply do not buy that most people will start looting. a few sure, but we are a long way from "most".

and that is coming from someone who has a particularly low opinion of humanity.

Personally, I love humanity.  It's *people* I have a problem with ....

And it does not take many people to ruin it for the rest of us.  Most people did not go out and bought up every bottle of hand sanitiser and every roll of toilet paper they could get their grubby mitts on ... only a few did, but they messed things up for the rest of us.  Most people went along with entirely reasonable policies of social distancing, but it took only a few morons packing the beaches or having parties to see those restrictions ratcheted up several notches and making life much more miserable for the rest of us.

Not sure what happened in Oz, but here the service here industry was the first out. If it was any other industry I’d say we would be okay for a while, but those in the service industry are now starting to run out of money since those who work in that industry are not savers.  I wish I could agree with you, but my experience in that sector dictates otherwise.

service/hospitality industries in huge trouble here. but i work effectively alongside the hospitality industry and i know a lot of people in it. some who have now been out of work for weeks. but i do not know a single one who i think would even be considering looting at this stage, let alone doing it.

as alex said above, it is a small minority who cause the problems. i don't doubt that there will be some but i don't believe it will be 'most' or anything like that.

any that do, i have no problem with the police shooting looters. i know that people can claim that they were just doing it for their families. but that does not give them the right to steal from others who also have to feed themselves and their families.

It's probably also delving into how different nations are supporting workers. In the UK the govt is providing people with 80% of their monthly income with a cap of £2500 per month. I think pretty much every country is doing something similar.

I don't see the scope for riots if people are still getting paid, food and housing. The only thing people are being asked to do is stay inside and when they go out for food/medicine to keep 2 meters apart.

We like to think WE had more sense when we were his age, but h-e-e-e-y-y. Basically - he's 27, y'all. What did ya expect...maturity???

I don't think he's an idiot. Many geniuses suffer from eccentricity, and many inventions are made in this way

The U.S. isn’t doing anything remotely similar to that. All they’re giving is a one-time $1200 (max) payment.

"many inventions are made in this way"?
Name me one invention, just one, that came to be in existence from the magnet/nose interface. Internal combustion engine? Quantum computing? Flat pack furniture? Show me the evidence! This is how conspiracy theories start...

Not true.  Anyone who lost their job or ability to work is entitled to unemployment insurance. In addition, the federal gov. is adding $600 per week.  In California that comes out to more than $1,000 per week in an effort to keep people afloat.

If you didn't have a job, why should the government start paying you now?

Saw 60 minutes last night. They interviewed a couple people that had lost their jobs due to the pandemic. One guy said the govt unemployment website crashed every time he tried to use it. A woman said she did the online application, but the next step was contacting the agency with a phone call. She said she called 50 times a day for two weeks and the message was always the line was too busy, call at another time. She said she had about a month of savings left. But this was New York. I wonder if it's the same situation everywhere?

Each state takes care of unemployment so I would imagine it depends on the state you live in how easy it is to get through. I looked at their webpage and it says you need to do the application online and only call the number if instructed.

i saw that one woman in new york had rung 300 times in one day to get through. that sounds like a system in total collapse.
