Ritch Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Recently received a cab of 50 PLPC. They are yummy. I just wish they were longer... should I be looking at the Picadore?
99call Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 No. The picadores is something of itself. El Pres describes them as a mash up between the PLPC and the Connie 1 which I can definitely see. To me the picadores have a sort of vegetal green pea sweetness. I love them (when not underfilled). There are not many lovers of this cigar. But if you can get good thin oily claro wrappers, then you have a lovely cigar. I don't think these are designed to be aged caramel sticks like the PLPC. I would smoke the picadores after 2yrs.
Islandboy Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Perhaps you’re thinking of the Montecarlo. I’ve not had one yet, but I believe they’re basically a longer, skinnier PC.
shrink Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 I love both the PLPC's and the Picadores. I age the PLPC and smoke the Picadore young. Neither is a subtle smoke. Both has lots of body and spice. 1
Ritch Posted September 22, 2018 Author Posted September 22, 2018 The PLPC's I have are 12 months old and they are already yummy yummy. Do they get better?

JZBdano Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Pres mentions that he smokes half the cab, puts the rest away for a several years. Sounds like you need to start acclimating another cab. Patience pays with PLPC.
earthson Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 I still yearn for more PL vitolas. The Picadores was a let-down for me. I was hoping for a glorius return of the Asia RE robustos. I no longer hold out such hope.
Ericbrobes Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 These have always caught my attention but have never smoked one!
Ritch Posted September 23, 2018 Author Posted September 23, 2018 They are worth smoking. Many day put them down for years but I kid you not they are yummy after just one year. 1
canadianbeaver Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 We love them and only age them a few months after shipping or whatever. Sometimes I cannot even wait that long. CB 1
Ritch Posted September 23, 2018 Author Posted September 23, 2018 Indeed. I don't think aging is always better. I recently had a 2013 Partagas Serie D 4 and I thought it was somewhat bland. Today I had a Partagas Short from 2015 and it was missing the sharp partagas spice. Still nice mind. 1
fabes Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Picadores are still a young new cigar. Isn’t any talk about how long to age them speculation at this point? Maybe 5yrs is also a golden point for them? At this point they are only 4 yrs out of release. Nobody knows how they taste at 5 yrs yet. I do agree they are a divisive cigar. Most I know either live or hate them.
Derboesekoenig Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Technically the 2014 version is a re release, whereas the original is a pre-revolution cigar that was discontinued in the 1970s.
cmbarton Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 My 2.25 year old box of PL Picadores smell rich and creamy at cold with dark, oil wrappers likely the culprit. If they taste 1/2 as good as they smell, they’ll be a treat! I’m halfway to 5 years, but I may break down at 3 and try one.
ErikB72 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Smoking time for PLPC and Picadores is the same for both in my own experience
