It doesn't happen often but I had a craving this morning for a Punch Half Corona along the lines of an Upmann Half Corona (maybe I was craving a Punch Petit Punch).   Yes...I know that such a cigar doesn't exist but it popped into my mind from left field.  My mind is good at that.  I like to think of myself as a "visionary"  :spotlight:    Those around me think it is some form of attention deficit disorder

First question

Punch Half Corona. Would it float?

Second question

Assume the previous two presidents of HSA marketing have been sacked for poor calls. You have been thrown the ball and you have one play to launch a new regular production cigar that will become a success in the main markets.  What is your call?

I was thinking more like a Cajon of 100.  Bandless.  Ready for the new global plain packaging era.

I think they should have done that straight up.  Not sure how they could do it now unless they punted Vigia.  Looking at Robusto's,  a Diplomatico Robusto would be a no brainer.

How about bringing back the 109 format for all remaining DCs?

I would,

the petit punch deletion still to this day is a travesty

one of the best cigars ever to come out of Cuba the light weight champion of the world ???

I would explore slotting a robusto into the Trinidad line.  No doubt there would be concerns about its impact on CORO sales but it would round out the Trini line and there are enough CORO detractors to help support a different premium cigar in a popular vitola.

Wouldn't be a cigar that would interest myself,  but put it in a nice skinny box,  add a double band, I believe people would buy it.

I’d get sacked before the project got off the ground. I’m no visionary, sadly.  Before I took on the job I’d want to know how the prior two went out....    Public hanging?   Firing squad?  Problem is, I’d make what I want, not neccessarily what the masses would respond to.  If it were up to me (and I’ve never had one mind you so I can’t speak to the flavor profile) I’d put La Puntilla into production. The size appeals to me.  Think the Monte Espy 2 is close and I love that one.   I’d just pick a different blend so as to not duplicate a current stick too closely.

You get moved into HSA Accounts Payables. Your job is to make excuses to suppliers why last weeks promised payment didn't arrive. ;)

I had a couple boxes of Trini Robusto Extra before they discontinued them..... But I lost them in series of small fires......

I agree; the Vigia is one of my favorite smokes but the size is silly (and sackworthy in its own right).  The Vigia should have been a robusto straight away.

I’ll go with public hanging, thank you.

I agree a Dip robusto no brainer ?

1) They'd have to be cheaper than the Montecristo Medio Corona (unlikely for HSA to pursue anything down-market) or they're DOA

2) Simple, Trinidad Belicoso. They'd print money.

Trinidad Belicoso is a fantastic idea!

Used to be my favorite cigar.  I’m kicking myself for not buying more boxes before they were all gone.  The Vigia is nice, and a similar flavor profile, but they are just too damn short.

Agreed- or have had the discipline to hang on to them..... at least for me.....

Trinidad needs a Petit Fundadores haha. 6x40.

I think we have enough short smokes from all Marcas. I think it may be time to delete some more Marcas like Sancho Panza and the near defunct diplomatic, thus creating more discontinuation buying hype. While bringing back some older marcas, creating new label buying hype. The deleted Sancho Panza should be put to sleep for a good 15-20 years before being resurrected again, creating hype, just like the NC market (new cigars conceptualized every single hour)

I love the Monte and Upmann half coronas...Would be great to see Punch and one or two others mix in thier as well...

The 5 pack tins...lets say you had Monte Punch Partagas Upmann .

Most days I have a mix of Monte and Upmann...In the Upmann tin...

Furthermore...Hoyo half coronas would stop me buying petit rubusto...

For me it's a done deal....they are a great quick smoke ...at any occasion..great gifts in the 5 pack tin...easy to carry in your pocket....the tins look very cool...and they are tastey little sticks.

Of course 25's would be the only option..that part is easy

I had a quick look at Petit Robusto releases on Cuban Cigar Website this morning. I found that yes, niche (e.g. Trinidad Vigia), multi-local (Quintero Favoritos) and local (e.g. Quai d'Orsay No. 50) marcas have had these releases, however, it is only the global brands that have had recent releases with cigars under either/both 50 ring gauge and 100 mm in length.  For example...

  • H.Upmann Half Corona (44 rg x 90 mm)
  • Montecristo Media Corona (44 rg x 90 mm)
  • Partagas Serie D No.6 (50 rg x 90 mm)
  • Romeo y Julieta Petit Royales (47 rg x 95 mm)

So, a Punch Half Corona would be a great idea, and I would whole-heartedly support it, but it would reflect a change in recent Habanos S.A releases outside their global brands. Let's hope they do it!

I think it could work as long as the price is right.

What I would love to see would be a Punch/Bolivar/Trinidad Montecarlo.
