So I’ve got a theory. People who like the smell of petrol like the taste of cigars. When I introduce people to the cigar world I ask them some questions about their tastes. Petrol is one of those questions.

Also, people who like black coffee no sugar like cigars, but that seems a bit easier to tie together. So let’s vote.

Feel free to offer you opinions on how you think you can judge if a person you introduce to the hobby is going to like or hate cigars.

Never thought of that before, but I've always enjoyed the smell of gasoline, and I will only drink my coffee black.

I have also found that folks who can appreciate good spirits and beers can find enjoyment in a cigar.

I don't know what in the hell petrol is ?but if it's anything like gasoline, yes, I like the smell.

I hate black coffee with no sugar.

I love cigars and have one every day.

I like the smell of gas. Soak a rag in it, put it in a paper bag, huff it until... Ok, look, this interview is over.

I don't mind black coffee, but I prefer it with sugar and a little bit of cream.

Mate what did you put in your shisha this morning? I'm no petrol sniffer.
To answer your question I reckon people who like tannic things like coffee, tea, red wine are more likely to be into cigars.

Yep.

Now WD40, the king of scents.

Haha, that and Hoppes #9.

Notice nobody has said they like the smell of gear oil.  That stuff smells like rotten dinosaurs.

No on auto petrol but yes on AvGas and Jet-A!  Especially when it is burning!

As for coffee, I take mine with cream and sugar on the rare occasions I drink it.

As children, me and my brother used to roll down the windows when we were in the petrol station. For some reason petrol stations don't smell as strong these days, I can only assume the fuel used to be a bit more volatile.

Fascinating thread, brother!

No on gas.

Like really great coffee with a bit of milk and sugar.

Love cigar stink.

Hate weed stink.

That is all.

So if petrol~gasoline I have always liked the smell of it, but am not a fan of diesel fuel. As for coffee I'm not a black no sugar guy. The aceditity tears my stomach to pieces, so I have to have atleast a little cream to knock the acidity down and I often use a flavored creamer, but don't mind just plain/regular cream either. As for cigars I most certaintly love them. Have atleast 1 a day usually 2-4 depending on how long I'm at work that day and what else I have going on in my life at the moment.

I have never thought of the petrol corelation but the coffee one I guess kinda makes sense, but doesn't hold true to me 100%...maybe call it 75%. I saw others that mentioned spirits. I'm thinking specifically Scotch, Bourbon, Whiskey (or whisky depending on what part of the world your from) could even add Rum to that as well. But, these spirits would be neat, or with a few drops of water, or I guess even on the rocks. Not sweet mixed drinks or anything like that. I could see that corelation as well as it seems common place amoungst alot of cigar enthusiasts.

How about black coffee with no sugar with the smell of petrol? One of my local petrol stations has installed a Costa coffee vending machine inside their little store area.  It actually makes a drinkable cup (not scorched like most actual Costa cafes).  So I get a quick shot, while the heady fumes of petrol fill the air, as I pump. Ace.
