So, a pretty simple question. What is the best cigar you have ever smoked worth to you in dollar amount?

Feel free to include future purchases as well as trades, swaps etc.

For me, it was an “0” something LGMDO#4 that was given to me by a member here and Colorado Herf guy. Literally a life changing moment to taste just how good a cigar can be. I seriously wanted to eat the nub. I would drop an easy 1K to get that experience 25 more times.

Interesting question - I'd say $50. Plenty of "almost as good" moments for me.

Interesting question it really got me thinking. You know if you could 100% guarantee a cigar would deliver a 97+ point "sublime" experience I would give you a couple of hundred bucks out of my pocket right now.

Of course, I don't think its possible to reliably predict that so I'd be requesting a refund if it didn't live up to that guarantee <_<

Interesting. Yeah, if I would be guaranteed the same sensation I had when I smoked my first Partagas Serie D4, I would gladly pay top amount for it. If I had to put a number to that one cigar... $100 maybe? I know I'll never experience that first time again though, but I'm fine with it.

The question may just elicit a long drawn out sigh from brethren living in countries with punitive tobacco taxes and VAT on top of that.

Maybe the question should be: how many multiples of the price of, say, a RASS where you are are you willing to pay?

i'm in that mindset that Rob has mentioned time and time again, 'regular production cigars don't get the love they deserve'.   Last year I got a PSP box of 14 PLPC and smoked one ROTT.  Never have had such a caramel rush as that first one outta the box, it totally blew me away..   Each time I open the tuppador and grab a few for the next few days, my eyes always linger on that box.  Have smoked maybe 4 or 5 since then and they are still perfect and only getting better.  Nothing I have compare to that potent taste of these and I'm smoking them only on special occasion or I need a 'pick me up'.   How much would I spend?   Like Colt45....about $20 (and would feel like its still a bargain).

Happy Holidays to all....and a very rewarding smoking coming year.

I'd pay the $100USD to smoke the Davidoff No 1 I had from the early 70's again. I wouldn't do it too often mind you. Otherwise, I'm  happy with aging my own stash.

Maybe 50-100€ for one cigar. But not interested of a box of that price. Usually the moment is special because of other factors and good cigar is just as good for me. I am not a milloinaire like some of us are.

Let’s face it...it’s a feeling like no other in those occasional times when the cigar you’ve chosen out of the humidor ends up being a sublime experience. Apparently, I’ve been willing to pay roughly $7000 in the last year to stock my humidor, for the chance that a handful of those hundreds of cigars will be absolute winners. (Now that I’ve done the math, I’m not sure I wanted to know that :o

The best cigar I ever smoked/experienced was actually on my first wedding anniversary. I actually had those cigars for my guests but never got to smoke one that night. Fortunately, I was cleaning up some boxes with wedding items and found one at the bottom of the box. I put it in my humi and left it alone for almost a year. Lit it up and enjoyed it throughly for almost two hours. The cigar costed me about $12 but that specific cigar/experience is priceless to me.

That’s really it right there I’d pay about $8,000 a year to have a yearly supply of my favorite sticks, as many as I could smoke.

My most memorable sticks were an '80 Monte A, an '80 Davidoff 4000, and '96 Cohiba Lancero and a CCE.  $100-200 for the Monte and Davidoff and maybe 30-40 for the Cohibas (even though they may be worth more, that would be my limit lol).

I would be willing to pay 100-150 for a Cohiba Gran Reserva

I was thinking similarly to price range and that is certainly one of the best cigars I have ever smoked...  I am open to options on what cigar I would want.  Would have to something of size.  I don't want a half hour smoke at that price point!

My best cigar moments have little to do with the cigar.

This. In fact, I want to put this on a shirt or coffee cup and sell them until I can retire.

I’ve had absolutely priceless experiences with the cheapest cigars one can buy before they’re just given away, and I’ve burned through excellent cigars without much notice while hammering away at my computer for work. In fact, I often talk myself into putting in a couple good hours on a project for my employer in exchange for a quality cigar in the moment.

I would pay hundreds and maybe even thousands to relive some of the best moments of my life with good friends and family around me, smoking whatever we could get our hands on.

I would have been happy with a ‘13-‘15 Box of Espys. I was just hoping for a slightly aged box to smoke out of while my ‘16 Box got some age.

When they pop up you gotta jump.

My wallet wishes I hated Cohibas. Lol!

Perfect answer (wish I had thought of it)...

It's a bit like asking whether one would like to relive a particular moment in time -- ain't going to happen.  My memorable cigars have had much more to do with the moment itself, my mood, the occasion, the company I was in, than with the actual cigar itself.  Such moments are literally priceless.

Now, if the question were "what would you be willing to pay for your favourite ever cigar by marca/vitola", that's a different kettle of fish.  For a box of, say, the Ramon Allones 898, hand-selected by a cigar expert of my trust to be in perfect smoking condition from first to last stick, I'd probably be willing to pay twice or three times the market rate.

Funny you say that about an hour ago I was leaving a store and started thinking about how much I would be spending this coming 2018 year on cigars.  Your right you stock up and age and hope you picked winners.  I thought my budget this year is going to be around yours.  This post leads into a different subject about cigar budgets and would one spent 7000 on let's say 10 boxes of greats or do you buy 20-30 boxes of good cigars hoping they will be great someday with aging.  Or does one do a combo of both?  @Islandboy what did you do?  Just curious

I’d say I did a combo, leaning towards good rather than great. On the one hand I really tried to get some nice boxes more for the long-term in mind, long-term to me being roughly 5 years. These would be things like a box of Espy’s, a few boxes each of CoRo, Sir Winston, Connie A’s, a box of HdM DC’s, and a box of Behike 52’s. Really hoping for great things from these in time. Then there’s kind of a middle-ground category - PSP Dip 2’s, PSE2’s, RyJ Churchills, and QdO Coronas - not super high priced, but the PSP wrappers seem to require a bit of aging to fully appreciate. Then some usual go-to boxes like RASS, Famosos, Picadores, Edmundos, Epi 2’s, Coloniales...

Obviously I’ve focused on readily available stuff from recent years, so if a “great” means aged or rare or discontinued stuff, I haven’t really delved into this area yet - with emphasis on “yet". I really like the idea of aging stuff myself, taking part in the journey by sampling them along the way. And I figure any one of these boxes has the potential to yield a stellar experience.

BTW, I fully agree with the notion that the cigar itself is, no matter how good or how plain, only part of the equation.

A bit more on topic, I’ve given some thought into where I’d draw the line with individual cigar cost, obviously not knowing wether it would turn out being the best I’ve had. I’d have a hard time going beyond $50, and that would have to be something with a pretty special notoriety.
