What do you see in them....please explain it to me. Monte Petit No 2

I know there are fans.....there has to be because people buy them off me. I am not being provocative either....God love you for buying them. Just explain to me what you see in the Montecristo Petit Number 2?

I was reading an e-mail from Jose and he made the quip that the Monte Petit No 2 belongs in the Monte Open line

That is a tad unfair. Whenever we sell a box of Monte Open the staff bring out a birthday cake, light the candles and we all sing. We sell about one box a year

But the Monte Petit No 2 does sell somewhat and for its fans I want you to put on your best Johnnie Cochran and come out and defend Monte Petit Number 2

There are no rights and wrongs in the world of cigar taste. Your opinion is just as valid as mine when it comes to taste.

Yes, I've only tried a couple but would agree. Kind of like a shorter and fatter Open Regata with just a touch more character perhaps?

What baffles me is how it's a supposed to be a smaller Monte 2 but tastes absolutely nothing like a Monte 2. Go figure.

From my smoking experience (about 5 till now).

These need more time to come around and loose the bland taste they have started with.

Grabbed a box of these in July 2014 (2013 box code I think). They were mild to just plain dull. Smoked through the box without seeing any improvement. Have never looked back.

I purchased the original release in paper packs from the right factory. Mine are the opposite of bland. Full of flavor and stronger than any Monte 2 I have smoked except for maybe the first ones I tried in the mid to late 90's before I knew what cigars really were.

Got a 15 pack of the OR when they were mis-priced at one online retailer and smoked a few - I do like them but the world doesn't really need them. Won't be buying more at current prices.

I picked up a 10 box a couple years ago ('13 box date) because I like the short piramide/belicoso format. Rarely have time for a full piramide.

The first one was very muted so I gave them another year to sit and they have been getting better since then. True, lighter than a Monte 2 in my experience, but not a bad cigar to my palate. Mine are smoking kind of like the '11 Upmann Connie 1s -nice clean sweet tobacco, but with a bit more coffee. Tiny sample size, but construction of this box is also very good.

I honestly think if the price point was reflective of it's size then there would be hardly any negative opinions.

As it is, because of the pricing the release strikes me as pure greed and leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Which I suppose is at least more than the actual cigars deliver

I really like the idea of a petit pyramide. As a slow smoker I rarely have time for the full sized.

Fortunately, I read about them here before pulling the trigger though. If they really tasted like short Monte 2 I'd definitely be interested.

There is just no way to justify the price, I could just by a box of normal Monte 2s and pitch them when I feel like it without being out any more money lol. If they were $6-$7 I'd probably bite.

For the price though, why did they bother?

There are so many other cigars out there that smoke for the same amount of time.

I enjoy the regatta as well. Its a nice early afternoon in the sun cigar.

Petit 2s would be more enjoyable if they put a diplomatico band on them. They are stuck being compared to the monte 2 unfortunately. I must say, the quality of the cigar is certainly more regular than the 2 which is all over the place.
