stogieluver Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 What is the status of this cigar? I have a box from our host and they are such a great smoke. They seem to be in short supply. Please pardon my ignorance on these, but why are they hard to find? Popularity? Seasonal production? Bottom line, when can I get my hands on some more of these? 1
TheLiquidGator Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Rob was asking us what recent box codes we had just a few weeks ago. Am not exactly sure why.
earthson Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Don't know why, but they seem to be on a similar release schedule as the Sir Winstons. Have you tried a du Gourmet? If you like thin RG, those are where I put my money. I've blown through some '10s that simply could not be any more complex. Familiar Le Hoyo wood and cream, but roses and sandalwood as well!
JohnS Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 My theory is that the wrapper leaves used for these cigars were used for the new Le Hoyo San Juan release. There has been a plentiful supply of these larger ring gauge cigars. But these are just my thoughts, I have no definite reason why the des Dieux has 'disappeared off the radar' in the last 12 to 18 months.
NSXCIGAR Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 AFAIK, Des Dieux has always been behind on production numbers, and the Le Hoyo series in general is low in production numbers (excepting perhaps the San Juan (which is a marginal member of the Le Hoyo line IMO). I recall many years since the late 90s where Des Dieux was hard to come by. I also recall a ton of outstanding Des Dieux in 2003. Lots produced and many were very good. Another winner from that oasis in the desert of 03. The Des Dieux is also a size that HSA loves to cut, so perhaps they don't care if they make them or not and the less Des Dieux they make the more San Juan they can make. It's actually my favorite HdM, followed by the Du Prince. Those two are really the only HdM I'll smoke. Not an Epicure guy and never have been. BTW, slightly off-topic, but am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous to introduce a cigar called the San Juan into a line that's been around since before the revolution, named completely in French and with all 5 cigars in the line named in French? Had to go with a Spanish name, huh? Couldn't go with Le Hoyo du Saint Jean? 2

All the leaves used in the blend of the Hoyo de San Juan come exclusively from farms in this district. Hence the name. 5
El Presidente Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 The Des Dieux as far as I am aware was not produced in 2015.....hence the scarcity. Trust me I wish it wasn't so. Love that cigar. 1

Not to get off topic, but what is the release schedule of the Sir Winstons? I am thinking I should have jumped on them when they were on the 24:24 not too long ago.

I am thinking I should have jumped on them when they were on the 24:24 not too long ago. I just received a box ARG OCT 14, so they are out there. If I hadn't, I would have done all I could to get the one box posted in the 24:24 last night. Damn that was a good price too...

Orion21 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 The des Dieux I see available are from 2013 - and I bought a box

One flippin' box, those things are rarer than unicorns, I still haven't had any luck tracking down a box. Will search high and low when I'm there in a few weeks.
NapaNolan Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Further to this...has anyone seen any du Gourmet lately, either? They were in stock at *****int a few weeks ago...right up until I decided I wanted a box.
Habana Mike Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Further to this...has anyone seen any du Gourmet lately, either? Both pretty scarce right now. Perhaps clandestinely discontinued? 1
Dimmers Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Both pretty scarce right now. Perhaps clandestinely discontinued? dont me me cry. my mascara will run...

I am thinking I should have jumped on them when they were on the 24:24 not too long ago. We only received a few boxes in total late 2015. Had a great run of shipments early 2015 (2014 production). One can only hope the same happens again in 2016 but no signs so far. 1
LeafLover Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Just pulled one out of my '10 box. I bought a second box imnediately after smoking one out if that box. It's been a while since I've smoked one though because I purposefully kept my hands off of both of them. I smoke it only on special occasions because they are so good and it's basically a treat for me to smoke one. I'll smoke it later and report back.

Almost identical situation with me except my box is '13. Had one yesterday and it was better than I remembered. A treat indeed.
Popular Post Drguano Posted March 3, 2016 Popular Post Posted March 3, 2016 After reading this thread, I did a little spelunking and found my box from 2011 and fired one up for my birthday smoke. Magnificent! I remember Rob saying to put them away for a while. Very good advice... 6
Fuzz Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I need another box or two (damn I miss 50 cabs) to store away. It will probably take me 5 yrs to smoke through my '03 box, so by that time, the new box will be almost ready.
