Since 2008 there has been approximately 20 premium regular production releases by Habanos s.a. Actually there have been a few more but one has been culled, I lumped the Monte Open line together, some never made it to market and I have left out Quintero and Veguero.

Looking at the attached poll....pick your top 5 releases based on what you have enjoyed/gravitated to most.

Reflecting on the list, would you grade Habanos s.a a "pass, average or fail" on what it has released to the world (Regular Poduction Cigars) over the period 2008-2014?. Kudos, brickbats...or a mix?

Feel free to expand on this thread. Would you have taken a different direction? Are there any standouts for "What the hell were they thinking" releases? Are there a couple of "They Nailed it...brilliant"?

I picked my 5. I think they have too many short fatties. I'd be fine with the addition of short fatties but not if it means culling the long skinnies and dumping Churchills. I love the 52-54 rg additions. I don't need the 56+ rg. Terrible rambling post I know but my attention has been divided :-)

There is a time and a place for all lengths and all rg. Let me make the decision. Don't kill off choices.

Edit: Someone tell RyJ that it isn't a Churchill if its 'short' or 'wide'!!!!!

I would have put the Trinidad Vigia 2014 on the list but I am still pissed that they discontinued the Robusto T

Upmann Half corona and Por Larr. Picadores are winners for me. Also enjoyed the Salamones when they were affordable.

I really do not keep any others on this list, they just do not appeal to me. Bland and overpriced and just plain dull........

For my money the BHK 52 from 2010 can't be beat. But beyond that and some Mag 50 I can't add much more. I would add the LCDH cigars since they are basically regular production. If added the Connie A, Superiores and Libertador would all have my vote.

The most popular regular releases since 2008, for me, have been the H.Upmann Half Corona, H.Upmann Magnum 50 and Cohiba Piramides Extra. I feel Habanos 'nailed' these cigars to a tee.

I think the Behike 52 and 54 were excellent releases too, but sadly I haven't had the opportunity to sample these cigars in the last 12 months...hard to find recent ones (for us all!)

Of the very recent releases I highly rate the Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo San Juan (beautifully light, mild and creamy...benefits from long-term resting) and the Partagas Serie D No.6 (a flavour bomb of toasted tobacco and pepper). I hope these last two continue in regular production, I guess we'll see.

Absolutely loving ...the Vigia....I call them Viagra.... time for a smoke... bang jobs on...

It's a shame the Royal Robustos and RA Superiores are not regular production.

Very true - two excellent smokes, IMO.

I completely concur!

Just like in popular culture, I am behind the times. No vote, I have tried exactly one of the cigars on the list.

Shock the world, Habanos SA, and release a friggin' corona!

If I had to pick only one, my favorite released since 2008 is the Romeo and Juliet Wide Churchill. No doubt.

The behike's and the Mag 50 are nice but the consistency of the Wide sets it apart . Imo

Totally agree! It would be nice to see a couple of the less ostentatious sizes given a bit of new action.

I'd probably say the releases have just about scraped a pass overall during that time period. However, if I were to balance the new releases with the deletions over the same time period, it's a catastrophic fail.

The only new release I smoke regularly is the H.Upmann Half Corona - not the greatest cigar ever, but filled a nice gap (especially with ever tight smoking restrictions and UK weather...) The BHK series are excellent too, but a touch too pricey to make it into my regular line-up. I'd have added the Trini Robusto T, but since they've discontinued that one...

Just had my first RA Superiores last week courtesy of Fabes. Delicious. A shame indeed.

I don't get all bent out of shape about these larger cigars coming out of Cuba today and in fact like them. When my brother or father wants to actually have a cigar, they want what they've always percieved a cigar to be. An Upmann Connie A, Hoyo San Juan, Siglo VI, or a RyJ WC is a great cigar to share with them in this situation. And I myself love them too. So my top 5 would be this

Hoyo le de San Juan

Upmann Connie A

Cohiba PE

RyJ WC

Upmann Mag 50

Looking at this list again, I see the Petit Churchill not garnering any attention. I have only smoked a handful, hence why I did not vote for it, but every single one has been fantastic. Really surprising as I generally avoid RyJ with gusto. Maybe people just haven't had a chance to smoke them? I smoked tubos, and like I said....wonderful!

For me, the top releases are the Cohiba PE, Mag 50 and PL Picadores, with the Behike 52 and HUHC coming 4th and 5th.

In order:

2010 Behike (just 52/54 for me, no 56)

2013 Monte Double Edmundo

2008 Hoyo Epicure Especial (but more so 2013)

2011 Partagas Serie E #2

2009 Partagas Salomones

...outta' luck again!

As a rule Tabacuba does not make new cigars that I like, they simply take the old cigars I used to like and roll them into fat, loose mediocre cigars that I have never liked and will never like!

No gold star for Tabacuba today, sorry!

Any on the list 44 ring and under? Tell me which ones they are and maybe I will order up some singles from our host.
