NicintheUK Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 In February 2016 the Habanos Festival will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Cohiba. For the June Issue of UK Cigar Scene we asked a number of people including Rob Fox, Ajay, Nino, Edward Sahakian and a few more for their ideal cigar for Habanos/Cohiba to create to celebrate 50 years of Cohiba. The 40th Anniversary cigar was the original Behike. Check out the article and then have your say. What vitola would you choose ? 1
garbandz Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I am with Nino,,,,,Cohiba "A" would be excellent..........
PapaDisco Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 A nice, 5 yr old Romeo Y Julieta . . . no wait . . . Lusi . . . no, no, something more apropos, ooh! ooh! One of those new Montecristo Churchills? Nah, they've been sitting around since '08, must not be any good.
Mr.T Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Would they consider splitting into 25 and 25 of two vitolas? Choices, choices...guess I would lean towards the Gran Lanceros Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MPS Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Diademas in a old school trunquito would be sweet. I love the idea of bringing back the original band for it. Most probably it will be a very large ring gauge cigar in a very expensive humidor.
Popular Post Ryan Posted June 5, 2015 Popular Post Posted June 5, 2015 Cohiba 109 would be nice. I'd imagine a box of 50. 5
ayepatz Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 50th anniversary? I reckon some sort of hideously unaffordable retrospective of every vitola ever produced under the marca. Packaged in some sort of equally unaffordable gold-plated box thingy. With a big gold-plated cameo of Castro's mug on it, chuffing on a cigar. A gold-plated cigar, obviously. But seriously, my money's on some sort of variation on the CORO.
tmac77 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I like the idea of a split humidor, kind of like the LCDH anniversay LGC for this year. The cigars: 30 Lanceros (The cigar that started it all) 20 109's 3
kcmontie Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I like the idea of asplit humidor, kind of like the LCDH anniversay LGC for this year. The cigars: 30 Lanceros (The cigar that started it all) 20 109's I like this. the 109 would be a great 1
Diamondog Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I would love to see a new size, a robusto extra! CoRe
Guest rob Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I'm always a fan of the idea that anniversaries should pay homage and respect to the great that came before. A tribute, if you will. In the case of cigars, that tribute could be in the form of taking the best bits of some of the more iconic smokes - esplendido, lancero and more currently the sig 6. Generally speaking, it would be fair to say these vitolas have stood the the test of time. I think a specially created '109 Especiales' would fit the bill brilliantly. The pigtail would be optional - as this could be seen as a touch tacky, on such a smoke.
Lotusguy Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Whatever it is, it won't come out until well into 2017 1
JohnS Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I love JJ Fox's idea of a lancero in honour of the original release. I think Dale from the UK Cigar forum hit the mark with what enthusiasts would like. If Cohiba brought out a panatela 'long-and-skinny' cigar that will be really popular (think of the discontinued Diplomatico No.6 or No. 7 cigars). I tend to concur with the idea that Habanos S.A will follow the current 'modus operandi' with special releases being a bigger ring gauge, so if this is the case, then I would really like Nino's idea of a Montecristo A-type cigar.
coug28 Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Coronas Grande....a la the Quai D'orsay. Probably couldn't charge enough of a premium though if it's a sub 50 rg. I'm sure it'll be 6'+ and 50 rg+ with a fancy box...and be three to four times more than I'll be willing to pay. I know that and I'm OK with it. I'm sure they'll all be snatched up.
earthson Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Coming soon: Cuba's first (?) 60 RG bohemoth! (Truthfully, I'm not the biggest Cohiba fan, so I'll probably buy a cab of PLPC with the money it would take to buy 4 or 5 singles of whatever they do come out with.)
avaldes Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 To me the Media Coronas in the Cohiba Reserva box from 2002 absolutely epitomize the "Cohiba" flavor. I would kill to be able to buy these by the box today and have them taste like those from way back when. If they make another Reserva box that would be ok with me!
shlomo Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Cohiba Diadema/Salamone!! Cohiba Culebras, but with 65 rg cigars!! The CoCu! I still stand behind releasing a Cohiba Opus X Angels Envy Don Hemingway Shark! The CoOXAEDHS 1
rtrimbath Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I would love a Diadema, Solamones, or A release. It would be cool if there was a nod to the original Lancero though. P.S. Is there a prize for whoever guesses the vitola correctly?
NicintheUK Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 No prize, just the kudos of working out how the Habanos Marketing team's brains work.
