DWC
Is there a difference in the flavor profiles of the 3 different size H. Upmann Magnums? If so, could you describe the differences? Or are they all basically the same only different vitolas? I've only tried the Mag 46 so far. Thanks in advance, - Dan

Smallclub
Yes big difference between the 3 imo. In my experience the 50 is like a watered down version of the 46, milder, much like other cigars of this size. The 48 to me on the other hand is like a Nicaraguan with a Cuban band on it, strong, syrupy sweet, with pepper. This! My favorite is... the Connoisseur No.1 ! which is more vibrant than the Mag 50, and much more "cleaner" and rounder than the Mag 46.
subport
Yes the difference is huge. Magnum 46 is one of my all time fav cigar. The 50 however is not a watered down 46 for me. It is just a totally different blend, character and cigar in general. The 46 is further away from the marca main dna while the 50 is clearly inside the box. Imho Agree with the 48 description. Sweet choco thing.
CaptainQuintero
To me they are all totally different, and not particularly typical Upmann. 46- Big full bodied cigar, lots of power, lots of leather and rich. Cream replaces some leather as they age. Some choc bean elements. If you like Bolívar you should enjoy these. 50-Might be making enemies here but to me this is a cigar rolled totally from the "generic Cuban tobacco" recipe book that increasingly seems to be making up a majority of the blend of some cigars from Cuba. Bready, sweet, 'stonefruit'. It's more SLR then anything else to me. If you like that marca then you'll most likely like these. No way could I describe them as Upmann though. 48- chocolate digestive biscuit, not sure these exist in the U.S.A. But they are a fine grain/cereal cookie with chocolate on one side. Maplepie
Don't forget the ever so controversial 05 LE: the original Magnum 50! Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry.
cigarbreak
This! My favorite is... the Connoisseur No.1 ! which is more vibrant than the Mag 50, and much more "cleaner" and rounder than the Mag 46. Havent had the 48 but i couldnt agree more b/w the 46, 50, and Connie1 and how the 1 is 'cleaner' and refined. Though im loving the 46 right now as its body and flavour cut right through a heavy meal.
PapaDisco
The 50 I had late last year from a new production cab was overpowering and sharp edged. Had to put them away for a while and haven't tried one in the last 12 months. Definitely darker and stronger than the Partagas Series E #2. Haven't tried the lesser ring gauges. scheskie
I just got a box of 46's and i have to agree with CaptainQuinteros assesment of them, big bold full bodied cigars with lots of leather and choco beans, mine had a little bit of coffee bean in there as-well. I have read that as they age some spice notes develope but mine are still young so none of that yet. Great to smoke young and get even better with some time spent sleeping. joeypots
Between the three vitolas? ****, theres apt to be a difference in flavor from cigar to cigar in the same box.
earthson
I've found the 46 more spicy while the 50 is more woody. The 48 is straight-up garbage! It DOES taste like Nicaraguan (and not a very good Nicaraguan at that).
Skyfall
I do not like the 48, it's not even the same as the 46 and 50. I love both the 46 and 50, It just depends on how much time I have to smoke according to which I choose.
Maplepie
LFD Double Ligero beats the pricing, size, flavour, and consistency of the Mag 48 all around. Both with equitable flavours. Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry.

Phillys
Love Upmanns, the 46 is definitely a go to cigar, definitely different from other Upmanns. I do also enjoy the 50, mine have been closer to the Upmann profile, I have a box that is glorious and a 10 ct that is not as good, much weaker. As for the 48s, had some really good ones, but more than a few were mediocre. For me it's 46>50>>>...>
Optic101
Like the 46 and 50 but prefer the 46 as of size and flavor. Have a box of 48 which is smoking nice and I enjoy from time to time but wouldn't buy it again.

dowjr1
Only one I have tried was Mag 50 from say 4 yrs ago...a 10 box that was a disaster of blah. But a fellow brother of the leaf just gifted me a 46 so that will be coming up soon!
joncat
There is a most definite difference. The Mag 46 is one of my favourite cigars and favourite vitola. It is a flavour bomb. I also like the RA Superiores of the same vitola, The Mag 50 is a longer and slightly milder, less intense smoke. I smoke them once in a while. I have tried the Mag 48 but it's not for me. Totally one dimensional.

CdnLimitada
Well, somebody's got to stick up for the 48. I really like them. --sam Can't do it. Not a fan either . I am missing that chocolate with them for sure. Haven't tried but a single of the Mag 50 and hated it but may have been a dud. The Connie 1 is a fantastic cigar but I suppose that is not the question of the OP.
topdiesel
I have not had a 50, but agree with Captain for the most part. Every 46 has been really creamy to me. Sometimes when someone says a smoke is creamy, I don't fully get that profile when I smoke it. Every 46 I have had is creamy at some point in the cigar. If you have never experienced that or aren't sure, then smoke one. The 48 is really chocolaty. It is sweet and can be creamy. 2 of my favorite 10 non-Bolivar smokes. If you are only going to buy one, buy the 48 since they won't be around forever. The 46 will be around for a long time. Both are smooth smoking, good sharing cigars. Every 46 I have had is creamy at some point in the cigar. If you have never experienced that or aren't sure, then smoke one. Surprising. Please define "creamy". I have smoked hundreds of Mag 46 and never had a "creamy" one. The Mag46 is the most tense, sharp liga in the Upmann line. If you feel this cigar is creamy how would you qualify an aged Sir Winston or Monarch? Or even a good Connoisseur #1 or half corona from recent production? topdiesel
Creamy=exhibiting flavors and/or textures of cream. I can only explain my palate. I am surprised that you have smoked hundreds of these and don't notice the creamy texture or flavor. To me some things exhibit a straight up flavor and some things exhibit a creamy flavor. Coffee vs. Coffee with cream is an easy example. When you drink coffee with cream it tastes creamy and the texture if it is enhanced. As stated in my previous post, I prefer Bolivar. I have not had many Bolis that exhibit creamy. Again this is my palate. Comparatively many H. Upmanns seem creamy to me.
