potpest Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Interested in opinions on suggestions for which smokes are the best straight out the box/without any age on them. I know many will say all, but I have a fresh box of P2's and a box of RASS which are IMO OK at the minute, but I feel will really benefit from a couple of years lying down. The oldest box I have is a 2012 and I need to something to smoke whilst i'm waiting...
Jeremy Festa Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Order a box of 2013 JL2's... So awesome. Had 5 or 6 and they are ridonkulously good straight up!
kuma Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 In my limited cigar smoking life I have found that Cohibas smoke very well young namely the Robustos and the Siglo VI's.
Dbone Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Like Jerocco, I've gone through two boxes of fresh JL2 this year. Hoyo Epi 2 was good too this year, had one box go sick on me though. The Monte line seems to produce decent flavors while still young. In my experience, Upmann cigars really change with 3,4,5 years on them. Good fresh, but something really different with some age on. It's a completely personal opinion. While you may only prefer some cigars young, others will only enjoy them aged. Some will enjoy that same cigar young or aged. The rabbit hole is deep.
Rye Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I second the Boli PC, and would add the SLR Regios. Fresher the better with them
Ptowncigar Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 I have several boxes of BRCs in 2012. All are smoking extremely well. I highly recommend.
Dbone Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 IMO Bolivars are good fresh but real rough around the edges. They really take a long time to smooth out where the flavors are not so muddled in heavy cuban twang. However, I've not smoked much from Bolivar 2012 or 2013.
melies Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 HdM epicure 2, just had yesterday a 2013 one ( the youngest cigar by far I ever smoked ) and it was great!
bassman Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Another vote for Bolivar PCs. If you like strong cigars, the 2012 RyJ Cazadores & Partagas Presedentes are fantastic now. Never cared for young Cohibas. Their flavor develops much more with 3-4 years of age.
potpest Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 I've only ever had 1 cohiba, a robusto, and tbh it didn't do a lot for me, It wasn't bad in any way but I think I was expecting more given the price. Cheers for the suggestions - I've ordered some singles today; JL2, Regios, SerieA, Cazadores, Monte Edmundo and Nr2, Epi 2, Upmann Royal Robusto and Nr2 Think I might grab a box of BPC as they won't break the bank and I've got a box of BFF (GUT OCT-12) which are smoking nicely right now, although i want to put the 15 I have left down to see if they improve.
Blakes Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Boli PCs. Can't go wrong with them x2 I'm almost at the end of my second '13 box, with another waiting in the wings!
CdnLimitada Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I am in the same boat. Most of my stock is 2011-2013 as a newbie. Very enjoyable right now for me are Epi 2s, Boli CJs, Cohiba Pyramids, QdO Imperiales (the best of the lot), Trini Reyes. Good luck!
Bartolomeo Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Off the top of my head 12 VR Famosos 12 CoRo 12 SLR Regios 13 Quai Corona 12-13 Upmann HC Bart
helix Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 of what I have the BPC and JL2 smoking good right now.
CurtisEss Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 I have been loving the 2012 Rafael Gonzalez Perlas and PL Montecarlos. The latter doesn't seem to need as much time as PLPCs to round out the rough edges. On the other hand, I've smoked a few JLS #1s and felt they needed some more age. Has anyone noticed a difference between how these smoke young compared to the #2s?
Smallclub Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Upmann Half Corona, Upmann Royal Robusto, Partagas E2, RG Perlas.
Ophidion Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Plpc from 2013 Rass with MUR code from 12/13 Boli PC '12/'13 Hup half corona 12/13 Hoyo Epi 1 12/13
ramon_cojones Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 dammit bart making me fiend for famosos
potpest Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 Are Hup half corona as good as I keep hearing? I wasn't going to try them due to their size, but they seem to have a large fan base.
paullie Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I started sampling singles then acquire boxes of those I prefer. trying one when it arrives then gauging if its good for now and if not to put down to sample every now and then so eventually it becomes a regular smoke. With luck I should have enough to rotate to satisfy my tastes. Unfortunately there are always plenty of other cc's you want to try. ;-)
laficion Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I've always had them fresh, and I like It that way. JL Seleccion NO. 1 SLR Series A HdM Epicure NO;1
