With a majority of the good stuff being chopped from the lineup, in favor of the high dollar donkey dongs in 10 ct boxes, I will be limited to a handful of cigars to choose from. This will leave me with more money to spend on other things! spotlight.gif

Discovered the world of customs this year. Brought back with me many Santos/Reynaldo customs from my trip to Cuba. The best was a Luis Hector farmie gifted to me by another BOTL, I swear I could detect over 15 flavors from that robusto

was gifted a couple of Luis Hector cigars as well. Very nice. Added them to the list for next year....

this year i really came to understand that the lonsdale is my favorite size.

I have also come to understand that I seem to like many things that others do not as much. its a rare day when i see people here rambling on and on about how good a cigar is that i really enjoy.

I fell in love with the Bolivar RC this year.

Had always liked it well enough, but finally had a box with enough age, approx 3 years, on it to really shine. Toasted tobacco, light mocha, hazelnut, cashews, mild stone fruit through the middle, citrus and white pepper in the final third.

The 11 stock already tastes fantastic, with serious potential to get better. The 12 looks good, but haven't tried yet.

Also reaffirmed that I dislike any ring gauge larger than a Robusto.

Will agree on the 520's being a fabulous cigar right now and one for the future.

ERDM petite corona's are sleepers and I am sad to see them discontinued.

Lastly, stumbled upon half a box of 2007 MDO #1's back in June which I quickly snatched up. Magnifique!

The Montecristo 520 blew me away. My other major revelation is the La Escepcion....utterly fantastic. I've smoked way too much of them.

RyJ Cazadores and Ramon Allones Celestiales Finos have been my revelations this year. The Cazadores is a perfect cigar to smoke now or lay down and the RACF have really come around.

Mine was a party Lusitania a slightly aged Cohiba siglo 6 . I've had young both sticks before but a couple of years does make difference.

My cigar revelations this year have been:

WOW:

Parti Lutsi- Holy s#$t good...

Monte 2 - had one mind blower

Co 1966 - smoked a little bit of my fingernail

Love it! That's the acid test.

I don't know if I've had an 'aha' moment... except that kids are expensive, it's cold in Canada, and I struggle to spend $250-300+ on a box of cigars, so most of the excitement is lost on me. However, I'm starting to realize that life is short, so go ahead and pick things up when they're hot and the good people of FOH help identify them as such!

Partagas 898 for me. Sure, I'd smoked a few singles over the years but a recent box bought in Andorra blew me away. I've heard they're to be discontinued but nothing concrete. Hope the rumour is bollocks....

No real revelations per se, but perhaps a reaffirmation that for me, cigars are a somewhat personal thing, and that I'm not really a "cigar person" - if that makes any sense.

Gave up on PSD4 two years ago.

Took a chance and picked up PSD4 on the pirates special a few months ago....and I love it.

Current 2012 PSD4 are delicious.

Makes total sense - I've been 'into' cigars for over a decade..... But only this year discovered I'm not as into them as I thought I was.

As far as revelations, I was extremely disappointed in myself for only having discovered the Rafael Gonzalez Petit Corona this year.

Robbo,

After having opportunity to kick it around a bit, would it be fair to say that it's not so much that we're not really into them, but that we don't put the cigars, in and of themselves, on a pedestal?

only picked up cigars this year, so the whole thing is a revelation. i was amazed at the different flavours that every cigar brings, and the relaxing experience, but i was totally wow-ed by the community and fraternity that comes with it, ive never met such a bunch of genunie people, focussed on getting the most out of life.

i guess thats what cigars have taught me, no matter if you are holding a cheapo smoke or a high end custom, make the most of it! applied that philosphy to life nowadays

Two revelations:

Never smoked a reall CC before going to Cuba, so getting my hands on the real thing down there and realizing what I've been missing all these years was an unbelievable experience.

The other revelation was finding this web site. No joke.

I'm just a simple man living life for simple pleasures.

For me I think I have learned pretty much that quality is everything and brand means nothing. Hoarding cigars is not for me and I do not have endless amounts of space or $. There are only so many cigars Matthew and I can smoke in a lifetime and so they better be the best I can find. This site and other resources, including my personal FOH friends are getting me there.

QDO..discovered this brand this year while living in France. The French QDO RE was mindblowing...so good. Also, the QDO Coronas with 2-3 years of age..love.gif

Amen to that! Only live once!

HuP 1/2 Corona - really for the size. I want a half corona now from all brands...Bolivar, Partagas, Cohiba BKH, Monte, Dip, RA everything. It is the perfect short smoke size and ring. Short, yes, but truly satisfying.

Ah yes, nice one! It is too pricey imo for the size, but it is a tasty short smoke.

It's pricy here... But then again, everything is pricy in Canada.

It is, after all, just a smoke, albeit it a pleasurable one. But just a smoke.

One more reaffirmation for me. Having picked a couple of RE/EL LCDH type double banders in the various duty free lands, (most recently; Hoyo Epicure deluxe, from H and F, who always get good stock. Dull...started with promise, but lost all hope a third in) I stick with my thoughts that I would have enjoyed a Vegueros, a spicey Cuaba Divinos, or even a RG panatellas extra more than those dull time wasters.

The smoke I am most enjoying at the mo are Allones millefleurs, in cellophane.
