Rushman Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Where does good ole J L stack up on your list? This is one of my long time fave marcas and the #2 one of if not my fave stick. Hadn't had one in a while because we don't stock them, but had one today and man was it a welcome smoke. Truly a cream explosion. What a cigar. What say you? --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631687,-87.070531
Smallclub Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I say the JL2 is stronger than it was several years ago and I'm not sure that is a profit; it lost a bit of its bonhomie…
davidsan Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I always go for the JL #2 because it's always consistent I can't think of one I've smoked that's been a dud.
davidl Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I absolutely love JL1, because of it's mid range power and top notch construction. One of the most reliable cigars I know.
nonameno Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi Rushman, Your comments pretty much mirror my opinion of the Juan Lopez marca and the No2 exactly! I have a couple of boxes of No2 from late 2011 which are dark and strong, so I am hoping a bit of rest in the coolidor will settle them down into a more traditional JL profile. Thank you for sharing, Curtiss
MrDowse Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I absolutely love JL1, because of it's mid range power and top notch construction. One of the most reliable cigars I know. X2 - smoking my way through a 2011 cab of these and i haven't had a single dud. Construction, draw & burn are always spot on.
Pilgrims Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Only ever had 2 JL's and one was plugged, need to explore them more...
Montaigut Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I always go for the JL #2 because it's always consistent I can't think of one I've smoked that's been a dud. x 1
Montaigut Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I absolutely love JL1, because of it's mid range power and top notch construction. One of the most reliable cigars I know. x1
CaptainQuintero Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 It's one which flies under the radar for me, I've had nice PCs but generally I'll reach for other cigars. They are always very pleasant just never mind blowing for me.
tdlfoto Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 The # 2 is definitely my favourite robusto, and one of my all around favourite smokes. The #1 isn't far behind either. the PC's are ok, but not as good as the 1 and 2's.
cottierm Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Hi Rush, I love the JL2 but not so much the JL1. For me the JL PC are alright but nothing more. Best, Michel
ramon_cojones Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Don't find the s2 strong at all, the 2010s i've had and quite a few duds. Some of them are enjoyable though I may pick up another box but am cautious.
Michel1968 Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Like davidl and Montaigut I enjoy the #1 very much (and prefer it to #2)
mk05 Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Per the #2 in recent production, I have not had any that tasted better than hot air. Limited to ('08-'12) JL experience. I had heard it is exactly as smallclub describes from others.
PigFish Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 JL 1 is a great cigar. While I am not a robusto fan, the JL 2 I find to be one of the more consistent robustos!
Bartolomeo Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 JL#1 could be an every day cigar for me thats how steady they are I have never had good luck with the #2 but wish I would as I love the JL brand Bart
mbrody Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 JL2 is my preferred JL. I like to put as much time on the #2's as I can, so I have been hoarding them from various years. Had some 07s and picked up some more from the Vintage program, and they have a good amount more strength than 08/09/10. Sitting on 11's without sampling. The JL1 reminds me of a Mag46 at times, but with a twist. I enjoy them, but smoke the #2 more. The JL PC box I have is constructed like crap, so I can't really comment. I will say, the Canada JL RE is excellent. $$$$ but a more complex JL2, smooth, rich and satisfying. (thanks Michel)
LeafLover Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 JL 1 consistent on flavor and construction all day, all night
headstand Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 JL 1 consistent on flavor and construction all day, all night x1 burning through a june 10 cab at a good clip
sblevit Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Had a '97 JL#1 the other night that was just outstanding. Another vote for the JL RE Supreme for Canada. May be my favorite RE yet.
Stevieboy Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Love JL especially the No2. The UK RE is an absolute joy to smoke as is the Swiss Maximos. The French Obus was a bit meh though....
