Pride and joy have to be some of the Cohibas I still have.. Sublime '04.. Some Piramides from '06...

Still have 9 Lusitanias from a box from STA '09.. One of the prettiest sights I've ever seen was the oily sheen on the perfectly lined up cigars when I opened this particular box.. They were complex and full of rich flavours even when young but a few years down the road in the humidor has been quite rewarding. What will 3 more years do? I hope I have the willpower to find out.

It seems the longer you keep your special cigars, the more intimate a relationship you have with them, so pride is easily felt whenever you open the lid of the humidor...

Maybe we're all crazy.

I have many cigars. For some reason I don't like the word 'collection.'

Maybe this is because I have collected so many different things throughout my life and I understand the neurotic compulsion that often drives the 'collector' mentality.

At any rate....

I like my Partagas SDC 1 and ERDM GdE best. I also like my RG Lonsdales and my QDO GC a whole lot.

Of the cigars still in production, I probably am most fond of my Trinidad Fundadores, Cohiba CE, BPC, RGPC, Monte Esp #2s, and about 10 other cigars that I can't even recall at this late hour....

I like all my cigars really.... even the ones that don't love me like I love them....

I only have about 6 or so cuban cigars in my humidor at the moment (I know, really low), but one of those happens to be a Bolivar Petit Belicoso EL 2009 that I have heard great things about, and can't wait to light it up.

After a very long hunt, I tracked down a box of the Andorran Juan Lopez RE in Barcelona. Beautiful eh?

Pretty close to what I was going to write, so there is no need to repeat it.

I just don't look at cigars this way. It would be like asking me if I like my table saw better than my planer. I love chicken and beef, as long as it is well prepared and tastes good, I don't care which is for dinner. Each cigar is an individual, they all do their jobs and if they do it well they make the grade of my favorites. While I do covet cigars, I covet the whole set of them; the ones I love anyway.

I believe that I smoke at a high level of satisfaction. I have some favorites. Grandes de Espana, RG CE's, Monte 1, 2 Esp, Party SdC.... and of course Seleccion Privada, but while they are special, I guess I think all my cigars are special. There is no cigar too special to smoke. I no longer buy super expensive cigars for many reasons beyond not being worth the money. Being afraid to smoke one denies the entire purpose as I see cigars. Cigars are made to smoke. If your pleasure is defined by their rarity we have a different mindset. Mine is about acquiring the best cigars that I can afford in sufficient quantity to smoke them freely and share them freely with friends. I can make arguments about never having enough, but can't say that I have a pride and joy and pick one or two.

My favorite cigar is always the one that I am smoking! The best cigar that I ever smoked is always a memory. By my definition then a cigar cannot be my best unless I have smoked it already!!!! A cigars REAL value as well as its REAL purpose is denied it, until one has put a flame to it, smoked and enjoyed it. Cigars are not for collecting.

Cheers. -the Pig

I suppose I'm a sentimental person, too sentinental.

I have "pride and joys" in my collection but they are cigars given to me by friends over the years.

A selection given to me by Guy when I visited him in Nimes two years ago, including a very old Upmann petit corona

SLR Pacifico and Punch Platino given to me by Rob when he visited here last year.

Punch Nectares No. 6 from a friend visiting Cuba with me in Feb.

Monte Gran Reserva from a friend who went to the Gala dinner last year.

Partagas Montalto No. 6 from a friend here

An Armando 109 from Nino last year, custom rolls from him this year.

A farm rolled robusto from Hiroshi with the smoothest wrapper I've seen on any cigar less than 30 years old.

U.S. Trinidads and Punch from a friend Rick when he visited from St Louis last year.

Various bundles given to me to me over the last couple of years by people in Cuba I consider myself lucky to call friends.

There are others but too many to list.

All of these cigars mean something to me and I think of the person who gave it to me whenever I smoke one.

It's not the rareness, value or quality of the cigars but the token of friendship and the connection that the cigar brings me to the person who gave it to me.

It means a lot to me.

As I said, I'm sentimental.

I don't buy much expensive stuff, but I am indeed PROUD that I salted away several cabs of 2002 Partagas Lonsdales when they were discontinued. They bring me much JOY. In fact, I've smoked 3 this past week.

And as an aside, I don't collect cigars. Cigars are for smoking. Gold coins, old books & maps- those are collectables. Cigars are for consumption.

Well put, but I must say I like my drill press better than any other tool in my garage!
