joshb Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I'm sure I'm not the only one who got the vendor email regarding the impending 10% price increase... I guess that confirms the rumors then?
cottierm Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Yep, received it as well this morning. Sad news for my wallet! Best, Michel
dB69 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Yes, that's very predictable business behaviour from HSA. Like an open book.
CaptainQuintero Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Depends where you are, the UK government just put 5% on cigars and then 3% inflation and importers fess (which were swallowed by the importers last year so they won't this year), adds up to between 11-15% rise on UK cigars this year.
riazp Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 nothing really new here, HSA increases prices every year. They can pretty much get away with what they want.
Scdalak Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Yeah, but 10% is pretty large. At least island purchases have stayed the same... 10% Ontop of what you allready have to pay up in Canada is just ludacris!!!
randomhero1090 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I noticed a little uptick in FoH's prices, so I hope they were ahead of the curve.
Vortigan Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Yeah got mine too.......looks like I'll be bringing this month's purchase forward a week.
asudevil08 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Yeah got mine too.......looks like I'll be bringing this month's purchase forward a week. + 1
SCgarman Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Time to find a new hobby, prices are getting ridiculous already.
rp99pts Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I think there comes a point where they get too exspensive and the vendors have to lower the prices to survive. I'd be curious what these wholesalers, especially the grey market guys actually pay for their cigars? I bet the mark up is considerable...

They are still cheaper than your average NC here in US... ironic.
LLC Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Glad I've been stocking up. Next big purchase will be in Cuba.
Omskakas Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Yes, that's very predictable business behaviour from HSA. Like an open book. Don´t blame HSA for all the price increases. Save some blame for Helicopter Ben and his friends at central banks for all the fiat money they print.

Omskakas Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 In what currency does Habanos sell its cigars? I think it´s US dollars. Anyway, ECB, GB and Japan are printing too. And the world economy is tied to $$$, so it doesn´t really matter to which paper they exchange their exports. But yes, do buy cigars. They´ll be worth much more than paper currency you may hold in few years.
Tarks Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Glad I've been stocking up. Next big purchase will be in Cuba. You can't wait that long Garry, can you? LMAO!

I'd be curious what these wholesalers, especially the grey market guys actually pay for their cigars? I bet the mark up is considerable... I'm really curious to see if we see this increase across all vendors, especially the more top tier (and higher priced) ones. I'd be very curious to see what types of margins are really being made at the end of the day. They are still cheaper than your average NC here in US... ironic. When I really think about it, it really boils down to this. It's not like premium NC sticks are cheaper, and I certainly know where my tastes lie.
nick17 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 last year in canada we saw a 4% price increase most B&M shops passed that right onto the consumer but i know a few that did not I hope that this year we dont see a 10% increase. and for those who dont know we in in canada have to pay in Ontario for sure 77.7% tobacco tax
Orion21 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Supply and demand, oh wait . . . I find it comical that HSA is deleting lines due to sales, but decides to raise prices 10%. Who else can run a business model that way? "Yes, Mr. Consumer I know you aren't buying our products in the volume you did a couple of years ago, so here is what I am going to do . . . I'm going to cut the amount of product available and increase prices every year to motivate you to buy more. What do you think about that?" Crazy
EL1990 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 With prices of cigars going up like this I think I better start collecting small aircraft and vintage cars
