rfenst Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I just noticed them today. How long have they been out? Anyone smoke one yet?
Charltonc Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I have been wanting to try them. I heard some stores in Europe have them.
riazp Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 i've had a couple from a april 11 box, great little..and i do mean little smoke..about 35-40 minutes for me and i'm not the fastest smoker.

hebbe72 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I had one on New Year´s eve. A great little smoke with a typical Upmann profile. I enjoyed it, but it is a quick smoke. Hard to say if it is something to recommend. The flavours were there, but the size makes it an odd bird IMO. I finished mine in less than 30 min. But that can also have to do with the fact that I was outdoors freezing my **** off.
ChanceSchmerr Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I have tried a few, after seeing boxes and boxes for sale in Andorra for a ridiculously cheap price. (who knew?) A good, short little smoke (to echo the comments of others). Far too young to get any real insight into how it will age or develop, but it was certainly pleasant, and pretty bang on with the Upmann profile ROTT, IMO - some light cocoa sweetness, almost a Nutella note in there, with some quick-developing power and spice from midpoint onwards. I do like my Perla-sized cigars.....but I don't know that i'd be down for a box of these guys - the larger ring-gauge, combined with short length remind me a little of Short Robustos....which is probably my least favorite size of all! If you like Upmann's, not a bad investment to see how they develop, and a good shorty if you like your daily to be a hand-rolled CC. I'd still take a Partagas Short or Punch Petit Punch over it, any day. Just my $0.02!
canadianbeaver Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I got to try them at my local cigar shop after being shocked by their arrival... the perfect winter smoke! I thought they were a bit harsh when they were so brand new. I now have 2 boxes... bought one on line then a cousin brought one home from Cuba for me. They have a couple of months on them and they are smooth and tasty. Only problem is they leave me wanting more sometimes and I confess I have smoked two in a row. They are a great smoke to share with friends! CB
Nino Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Smoked a few in Havana last year when they came out and I enjoyed them. Perfect for a morning cigar with a cafe con leche or in-between short smoke. I love the RASCC and these are stronger, more in your face smokes. I agree that sometimes you want to light another one as the pleasure is ... short
riazp Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 One tip on smoking these...use a punch. the first one i smoked i used a guillotine cutter, draw was a bit too open for my liking. second one i used a punch and the draw was much much better.
bacalao Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Had one this morning that was gifted to me. Absolutely loved it , if you like Upmanns it's a must try. The one I smoked had a beautiful wrapper about four shades darker then my HU PC'S. Smoked indoors took about 40 minutes to nub it mine had no harshness and like most short cubans flavors explode right away. Agree it's just a tease of a smoke lit up a Partagas SD4 right after. Curious to see the retail on these.
Habanakane21 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I've had about 10 of these. I love 'em. Good flavor in a small package. Quick smoke too...especially when it's 85 degrees in Los Angeles. When it's too warm outside it's hard to smoke!!

adic88 Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 My review of these lovely flavour bombs http://mycigarblog.org/blog/?p=2459 Good to the nub

jedipastor Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Ha ha ha. Oh my gosh I love that picture, lol! Awesome. I've been to Finland twice, about the end of "summer," so no snow yet (Nokia). But I grew up in Minnesota so this picture looks like home Back to topic, I really do want to try these things. I'm concerned HSA will price them too high, though. They've gotta be lower than the PCs by a bit or it's a no-go.
silvano10 Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I bought a box on Dec 19th in Varadero or a recent trip, bought at the casa in the villae of varadero, i smoke 2 while in cuba, they were garbage, i bought the box because it was only 65 pesos for the 25... to be quite honest the burn was bad and the taste was bad. i do beleive that the cigars are very fresh and need a few months at least to settle... i will smoke another one in a month or so and see the change... to be quite honest though, its to quick of a smoke.
Nino Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Having this thread in mind, we smoked 5 Half Coronas yesterday before dinner with a Belgian friend who came to smoke with us. They have just hit shelves and are very affordable. All were very good, burn, draw, aromas, a perfect appetizer and we were quite satisfied - could have been a longer smoke, we thought, but then we had enough sticks along ... Pics to compare the size along a P 2.
Wil Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 One tip on smoking these...use a punch. the first one i smoked i used a guillotine cutter, draw was a bit too open for my liking. second one i used a punch and the draw was much much better. Only smoked one from my box, but the draw was a bit firm! I'm going to leave my box for a least six months before I break into it again. Has the makings of a great short smoke IMHO.
cigcars Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Short is right! 3.5" x 44 ?Its own version of "the Nub"??
jazzbass Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 My friend Tom and I smoked a couple of the half coronas last night after dinner. I think that they are a real nice surprise from H. Upmann in a small package.. Great old school tobacco taste.. Reminded us of the Magnum 46.. Awesome price!

Upmann in a small package.. Great old school tobacco taste.. Reminded us of the Magnum 46.. Awesome price! I don't know about that awesome price - you can get quite a few true PCs for the same or less money, let alone RASCC, SCDLH El Principe, ....
Smallclub Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 I can't find any place that has these. Most LCDHs and big shops in Europe are out of stock; some of them even didn't get any. Don't expect to find this cigar at one of the well-known discounters.
