El Presidente Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Thank you to all who nominated their cigars for the Habanos top 10 2011 The results were very interesting indeed. Lets start with No 10 and count back. Number 10 (three way tie) Partagas Shorts Partagas 898 Varnished Upmann Magnum 46 All three have been superb throughout 2011 and richly deserve their poition in the top 10. All three are close to my heart as they are in my rotation. Number 9 Trinidad Reyes Consistent performer year in and year out. Great reading the sunday morning paper cigar. I personally didn't think this year was its best and would have put the Short and BCJ above it but I am not quibbling. Number 8 Behike 52 Plenty of supporters for this pocket rocket. You may question value for money but difficult to question flavour and quality. Number 7 Upmann Number 2 This was a surprise for me. Have had plenty of good ones throughout the year but enough dogs to be cautios. Great result for the Upmann 2 which was the only Piramide to make the top 10! Number 6 Behike 54 Two Behikes in the top 10 with the 56 well outside the list. The 54 does pip the 52 in sales....but not by much. Number 5 Bolivar Royal Corona The quality has been solid for the BRC this year with stock at times non existent. Ever popular cigar and a regular in each years top 10. Number 4 Partagas Serie D 4 I think that this has been one of the best years for D4 in the past 10. Construction, wrapper, aroma, flavour has been consistently good and at times brilliant. Number 3 Trinidad Robust "T" We are all shaking our head at the discontinuation of this cigar. I can only guess there is a relaunch plan for it down the track in a guise where it wil work in terms of sales. Poorly positioned price wise, a truely beautiful tube which never appeared....it is still a bloody fantastic cigar as proven here. Number 2 Bolivar Petit Corona Just a spectacular year for Boli Petit Corona. Deep rich flavours that keep on delivering time after time. Magnificent and my go to Petit corona these days. Number 1 Ramon Allones Specially Select A cigar which has its knockers but a legion of fans. When they are on they are almost untouched as the finest of all Robusto. Yet, I didn't think this year was as good as last in terms of overall quality and flavour. You guys disagreed in spades!!! Thanks again for all that took part. PS NO 1 Specialty Ramon Allones Superiores followed closely by Montecristo Grand Edmundo and Por Larranaga Encantos.
riazp Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I'm kind of surprised about RASS being no.1, for me these have needed some time to age before really performing. BPC's and Shorts from 2011 have been really on and they are consistently great.
Schumi5 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Very interesting list. Bit surprised to see RASS take the top spot. Glad to see the Upmann 2 on the list as I am definitely one of those who feel they have been wonderful this year. Party Shorts earn some very well deserved accolades. They virtually never dissapoint and for such a small smoke deliver tons of flavour. Thanks for compiling this Pres, much appreciated. Members tastes in cigars vary almost as much as their tastes for certain unnamed individuals.
maverickdrinker Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 thanks for posting the list. Some interesting trends. Robusto and smaller vitolas/ring gauge cigars dominate the list. No prominentes, DCs, or larger cigars. The longest cigar being the 898. Could this be correlated with people have less time to smoke? Interesting to see the diversity of marcas as well. Wondering if the list would change if cohiba was priced in line with the others. The quality of the 2011 vintage has been fantastic. Construction has been excellent. I wish that you didn't have RASS as no. 1 as this is one of my favorite cigars. Hope this doesn't cause a mad rush to pick some up. The only surprise was to see a piramide/torpedo on the list. I hope this is a sign of a comeback. Thanks again for putting this together.
Ken Gargett Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 what would be very interesting would be to see the top ten by sales, both volume and value (without asking for the revealing of any actual figures - just a list). do people put their money where their mouth is!
hdryder Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 I have never smoked a BHK 54 but the rest are truly great cigars. I agree with Ken that it would be very interesting to see how they compare in sales although I think the more expensive cigars like the behikes would fall off the list because of price. Thanks for posting the results Pres. Now I think I am going to smoke a RASS. Cheers Richard
El Presidente Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 Will do a post by our sales for 2011 in the next few days
cigcars Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 *I'm truly shocked that no regular production Cohiba was in the mix
Styler Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Great result for the RASS, they are my 'go to' stick. I didn't actually vote for them though as I do think the 2010 boxes were better than the few 2011 sticks I've tried so far. I know a lot of people say that these need 5+ years to come good but I've had plenty of great RASS that were only a year or two old. Also glad to see the BPC there, the absolute best PC for me and I had the best one I've ever had this year. The richest chocolate I've ever tasted in a cigar without a hint of harshness. I couldn't believe it was young! The HU#2 is a surprise indeed, I've never actually tried one. Will have to remedy that as I like piramide size (Unicos and Dip2 especially)
jedipastor Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 what would be very interesting would be to see the top ten by sales, both volume and value (without asking for the revealing of any actual figures - just a list). do people put their money where their mouth is! -That would be interesting, yes, and I hope Rob does post that. However, Rob was explicit that he wanted our Top 3 cigars by enjoyment. For that reason the Behike made my list because the 54 I had last week was out of this world, but I'm not buying multiple boxes of them because--although awesome cigars--they are just too dang expensive. Dollar-for-dollar, the RASS, Mag 46, BPC, BRC, Party Short, etc., win for me. But to each his own, and my answers may change later in life. Right now I'm smoking 10-12 cigars most weeks, but I plan to cut back as I get a bit older. If I reach a point where I'm only smoking 2-3 cigars a week, then sure, Behikes all the way
coug28 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 If I recall the thread correctly, I'd say of the larger format smokes, the Upmann Sir Winston was the closest to making this list. Cool to see the results, and agree it would be even more interesting to see how this list compares to actual sales results.
goalie204 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 was this peoples favorite cigar smoked in 2011, or favorite cigar smoked in 2011 that was rolled in 2011, was this specificlike that ?
coug28 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 This particular list is best rated by the board....for 2010 & 2011 production. Sounds like the top sales thread will come in a few days...
tdlfoto Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 thanks for posting this (and the comparison to sales to be posted) Rob. I actually only recently had my first ever RASS and it did seriously impress. Glad to see a few of my favs made the list too - Upmann 2, Boli PC, and Party Shorts.
Bartolomeo Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 RASS....Cmon people, whats wrong with you? Bart
Cohiba Stevie Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Not a siglo ii or vi on the list?! I'm flabbergasted! Lol
sblevit Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 RASS, really? I'm going to have to fire one up tonight.
El Presidente Posted December 14, 2011 Author Posted December 14, 2011 Well the FOH Top 10 2011 was a poll of members. Some of you have asked for our top 10 by sales in 2011. Here it is 1. Partagas Serie D 4 2. Ramon Allones Specially Select 3. Montecristo Number 4 4. Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure No 2 5. Montecristo Number 2 6. Partagas shorts 6. H. Upmann Magnum 46 7. Por Larranaga Petit Corona 8. H. Upmann Magnum 50 9. Cohiba Robusto 10. Partagas 898 Varnished. No 1 Specialty: Por Larranaga Encantos
riazp Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Really? BPC is not in your top ten in sales, even though you've reviewed it twice on your youtube channel and raved about it twice? that comes as a big surprise to me.

No 1 Specialty: Por Larranaga Encantos really interesting comparison but is that sales by value or volume?
El Presidente Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 really interesting comparison but is that sales by value or volume? Sales by units/volume
mk05 Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I'm actually kind of shocked about the party 898 varnished. looks like i should try one or two. are the epi 2's still as good as the 08s?
CaptainQuintero Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Great list of cigars on both lists, you could probably put up both lists in reverse order and still not complain about the results. Just sheer class from all the cigars
