What is the last cigar that stopped you in your tracks due to a sheer burst of brilliance?

I was on the deck yesterday late mornong with Bolivar Petit Corona. Now I have had hundreds of BPC if not thousands over the years and it is my favourite PC along with the Dip 4. Still, yesterday it showed a new side in the opening third by producing the most stunning burst of sugarcane sweetness which lasted for a good 5 minutes.

I have never experienced that before from a Bolivar Petit Corona but it captured my attention and heightened every sense in my body. A Brilliant experience!

Have experienced that Guarapo taste with JLn1-n2, Dip4, Mag46 ,SW , Non-plus and with some Shorts all aged min 2years but never with BPC , good to know they do have the capabilities .

I have to admit that i always hope for that flavor above all flavors when smoking. I guess it has to do with a particular blend and a precise aging time but not sure how it works . :looking:

I had only had a couple of Bolivar Petit Belicosos prior to the one that introduced me to chocolate cake. It lasted the best part of the middle third. It blew my socks off and is the only cigar that I have let another person have a couple of draws on. Great moments like that will keep you in the sport forever.

Was gonna post this in "FOH daily smoke" but this is as good a place as any...

Smoking a Partagas Lusitanias right now, my first. It is excellent, very refined, rich tobacco, creamy, a little bit of steak with mushroom and pepper.

Some may know I prefer thinner sticks (especially 898 and shorts for partagas) but this has been a very enjoyable cigar. Much more refined than those smokes. Eureka without the bloodshed! :-p

My first ever Sir Winston was a roller coaster ride of sweet spices! I just found myself holding it in my hand staring at it thinking that my palate was playing tricks on me. Like NJP, I just had to share it with my friends because I wanted validation for the tastes I was experiencing :P

I've never had a Sir Winny like that ever since and have been chasing that dragon like a heroin addict.

I've also had a Diplomaticos No. 4 a couple of weeks ago that was so brilliant that I ordered a box DIRECTLY after finishing it, I've never done that before with any other cigar.

Moments like that keep the fire going!

Had a RS 11 (00) about a month ago.

Started out with spices and oh so sweet sugarcane and brown sugar. Not only that, theses flavors only intensified throughout, with a lovely introduction of leather in the 2nd third, then paprika/sweet pepper in the 3rd. It didn't actually change flavor, but had a deep sweet spices/sugarcane base with an evolving aftertaste and retrohale aspect to it. HEAVEN

Diplo 4, the cinnamon, cardamon and slight sweetness I get, the vast amount of smoke that this mareva produces, amazes me everytime...and pisses me off everytime because i just think to myself, who at habanos had the bright idea to axe this gorgeous cigar.

A Cohiba Piramide EL 2006 I recently smoked. Finally came across mushroom notes with a bit of steak on the palate.

There's a few:

08 mag46 - when they were fresh, rich leather, nuts, spice, great tobacco and a moderate strength - perfect - ordered 4 boxes immediately!

Mag50 tubo - 3-pack, unknown date. Good covering of white mold that brushed off. Barnyard stench. Amazing stone fruit/apricot bursting at the seams, medium body/strength. Perfect again. Unfortunately, been chasing for that same experience in other boxes of mag50. waiting for the day that rob says they are in...

Jl2 - 07 and 09, great strength and flavor - leather, floral, exotic spices combine for an amazing profile. If you experience this, you will chase them too!

898v dec 09 - rich mouth filling spice, leather, and burnt cream. If you could call it a flavor, you would swear the tobacco tasted like it aged for ten years.

A little over a week ago I had my first Magnum 48 and it totally rocked my world! I have since smoked three more and ordered two more boxes. I don't think I can have too many boxes of these in my humidor ... I am quickly warming up to LEs. I can't get enough of that woody cocoa taste these little guys pack. With the temperature starting to drop they are a nice and almost perfect size for a cool afternoon smoke.

I also paired a BRC with champagne not too long ago and that combination blew my mind as well. I will be trying to reproduce that moment for sure.

Dear Rob,

May we know the vintage of that box of Bolivar PC?

Best,

Michel

A VR Unicos. Oh my gosh, I almost went weak in the knees. It was like drinking a cup of hot chocolate, where the smoke was the hot chocolate drink. My mouth began to water because I think my body thought I was eat / drinking food. I will not forget that Unicos.

For me it was the Upmann Mag 50. The last third was full of cinamon buns for about half the last third. I was captivated and had my girlfriend taste to make sure I wasnt crazy. She confirmed. I was stunned

Even though i find them to be very inconsistent i smoked a Monte 2,that from the very first draw to the nub was intense chocolate.I remember starring at the cigar thinking why aren't they all like this and how the hell do they do that.

The latest for me would also be a VR Unico that was supplied by Bartolomeo. Thanks Ryan. it was a phenomenal smoke. Complex, Great Burn, Milk Chocolate Notes and Tons os Sweetness, almost to the point of overwhelming, but remained pleasurable.

The one before that was back in February...a Bolivar Corona Gigante. My God, that was a great cigar. Full of earth and chocolate notes. Very rich and oh so tasty.

That's it for smokes that rocked my world in 2011. Hope 2012 is even better.

Rob,

I had the exact same experience with the BPC. The sweetness was unlike anything I have ever experienced. The sweetness stayed on my tongue for two days after I smoked it. I was an fantastic experience to say the least.

My first BHK 52 was also an ethereal experience as well. A fantastic looking, smelling and smoking cigar. Powerful, but soft and smooth with wonderful citrus flavors unique to BHK.

Finally, Bolivar Royal Corona's almost never disappoint me. They are so well balanced, yet provide that masculine Bolivar punch so many love so much. I have detected sweetness in some BRC, but mostly it is just a fantastically blended robusto.

Juan Lopez #2

Last year while on vacation in Grand Cayman I bought a couple JL2's from a small shop near our condo. I went in to buy something I've never tried or even heard of....a crap shoot purchase if you will. My brother-in-law, a much more experienced smoker than me, and myself lit them up over a few pints. Immediately I was love with all the rich creamy smoke and overwhelming tobacco flavour. Then B-I-L turns to me and says "OMG this such a fantastic cigar..what is it?!". Anyway, we carried on smoking and commenting on how good the experience was. Had smoked Bolivar Royal Corona and Cohiba Robusto on the same trip and this JL2 easily out front.

Returned to Canada, bought the next box that came up on LFTH. Finished then off over summer. Bought another box on LFTH about a month ago. Now resting in the humidor. My favourite robusto so far.

Cohiba Piramide 2001 LE, smoked it a couple weeks ago. It was like drinking chocolate. Unbelievably sweet. I was not really smoking it, rather drinking very tasty smoke. It was my next to last one, so I hope the final one lives up.

Back in the day I bought them, they were very very good, but you knew you were smoking a cigar. Now they are other worldly!

Those FDC short robustos that I dont shut up about lol, that same can sugar sweetness for the whole cigar! Went out and bought two boxes of the same code because of that moment, and its been consistant every time I've lit one up

A month ago I smoked a PL Belicosos Extra RE that stunned me with its purity and refinement of flavors. I was expecting caramel sweetness but instead got fine exotic wood, light incense and cedar. Nothing remotely harsh - just sweet wood.

Immediately ordered a box for home and one for the online humidor.

After your review of those fdc RE's,I have been searching everywhere ofr them with no luck. I love the sound of those profiles you have described.

Had the chance to smoke an H. Upmann Noella a couple of weeks ago that was just amazing. Was like experiencing that first ever "wow, cigars are awesome" moment all over again.

Quai D'Orsay Corona, LRE MAR 09. Smoking it right now. Nice oils on the wrapper. Smooth and creamy with a touch of fruity sweetness. No hard edges. My first from this box, it's a glorious cigar.

About a year or so ago, I had a box of Cohiba Robustos from Feb '10 that were vanilla and caramel heaven.

Man, I wonder if we are smoking the same Noellas... all three that I had so far were harsh, metallic, and tasted way too young. :(
