Did a bunch of tastings and picked up a few bottles while up there. Petersons is one of our favourite Hunter Valley wineries, and we always have to pop in for a few bottles. The family have several cellar doors across HV, Petersons (Mount View Rd, original cellar door), Peterson House (there are 2 on Broke Rd, specialising in sparkling) and Savannah Estate (Colin's daughter Savannah opened her own winery). Last month Peterson House celebrated their 30th anniversary, and marked the occasion with a party for family, shareholders, and members. They also released a limited edition sparkling wine made from a blend of 4 semillon vintages (one from 1992). Pierre's Wines are an interesting producer. They were recommended to us by Cameron at Keith Tulloch Wines when we did a tasting there. All their sparkling are made using méthode traditionelle and are crown sealed instead of cork. Fantastic range of sparkling and still wine that we got to try all, plus a Ratafia that they only made for the first time last year. Their labrador Benny walked around the tables to get scratches and cuddles from all the patrons. I'm of the opinion that every cellar door needs a cellar dog. Ahhh I see Piggs Peake - my fave winery in the Hunter never miss dropping in to see them when there.

We had been wanting to hit Piggs Peake for a while, but missed out last year as they were quite full. So this time we booked a tasting and it didn't disappoint. From their selection of wines that day (they produce many more than the tasting list which on rotation), the guy serving us was going to keep going beyond our selection, and I was quite happy to continue. Only problem was, they were the third tasting we did that day and we were already quite boozed up. Didn't stop us from hitting Pierre's after, though! 1
Lucas Buck Posted November 17, 2025 Posted November 17, 2025 Went a little nutty at Costco the other day. Their crazy pricing makes 2 hours driving well worth it. 4

Yeah I had to start booking the last couple of years. Love a trip to the Hunter though I always spend well over what I budgeted.

Popular Post Hoosh Posted December 27, 2025 Popular Post Posted December 27, 2025 Love Ardbeg. Love Laohroaig. Have mostly been on the right side of the fence with Lagavulin. But why is it I keep come out to the shed to smoke a cigar and the scotch I bring is…Cutty Sark?! Chill filtered (though no color added) Cutty Sark. Not even the Prohibition or the 12 year. Heck yeah I can taste the grain in it, but I can also taste the honey, and the vanilla, and the nutmeg, don’t judge me…I know you drink stuff in secret too! 🙂 4 1
