SCgarman Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Even though I don't smoke many of them, the Monte2 is a world renowned cigar and if you purchased a PSP box, it would be something special for him to age and just pull out one here and there for special occasions. This is just my opinion, I am sure others will have other suggestions!

docbp87 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 If you are talking PSP/HQ boxes, then Esplendidos, Sir Winnies, or Hoyo DC's all seem like great options to me. For special occasion cigars, the large format shouldn't be a problem, at least in my experience, since it is a special occasion, you know what you're getting into before you light it up. Also, all of those cigars seem known to have legs for years and years, with the potential to also be great without years and years on them. Great cigars now, that he can see, and enjoy the evolution of. If he likes Opus X, and NC's in general, which tend to be a bit darker and stronger than CCs IMO, then maybe the Monte 2s would be a good idea, since they seem to have a darker flavor profile and character to them. Hope my non-sensical, non-committal rambling helps you decide. PS. when I get married, I'll send you a PM, and let you know whether I want a box of Upmanns or Hoyos. Thanks mate.
gigabyte056 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I'd go with a PSP Monte 2. It is a well known brand and when it is a good example it will be a stellar cigar. It has legs and you can get maybe an 08 box so when the time comes they will be perfect.
Ghabanos Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Lusi. They have been on the money aged or young for me. Great flavs Btw. This is a ery nice thing that you are doing for your cousin. Wish I had a cousin like you...
mazolaman Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Yep,thats a really nice gift to give. From recent experience,I would give a box of Bolivar Gold Medals....particularly psp. These exemplify the Cuban Cigar for me,and they have a nice bit of special packaging.
Lotusguy Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Since it's for a wedding, I would put some Romeo and Julietta in there - goes with the theme

Outside of the fact that they will most likely hit his preferred flavor profile, they are an incredibly dressed box, very fitting for the occasion!
anacostiakat Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 If he is a big NC smoker and smokes Opusx then I might go for Bolivar or Partagas. Or maybe RyJ Cazadores in order to get him something on the fuller side. But I am sure whatever you get him will be great.
Charltonc Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I would go with Partagas Lusi. How bout an HQ robusto or corona gorda sampler pack so he can get a variety of cuban cigars to try.
Rogers72 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 My top 5 recs in order. 1.) A 25ct of Cohiba Genios. $$$$$ 2.) A 25ct of Cohiba Siglo V $$$ 3.) A 25ct of Sir Winnies $$$$ 4.) A 25ct of Lusitanias $$$$ 5.) A 25ct of 898V $$$

Runner up, Partagas Lusitanias.
riazp Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 X3. Bolivar Gold Medals are not only excellent cigars but the packaging is most fitting for the occassion. Runner up, Partagas Lusitanias. x 4 on the Boli gold medals, exellent cc (still dont know why habanos are axing these but thats another story), Partagas Lusi's, i'd also like to mention Punch Double Coronas, also a very good cigar that gets better with age. Monte 2 is a classic CC, you could always include a box of 10, Or like another member said, there are exellent box splits availeble, so you could get a figurado box split which will have 5 different cubans in a torpedo shape, the corona gorda or robusto split also have some Fantastic cigars included in them. Your doing a exellent gesture for your cousin, I wish him and his future wife a life of happiness.
Styler Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Ok, so he already likes stronger smokes, you want something big and special, something that will be good now but age well, that all points to a box of Lusitanias imo. I'm also a big fan of the Ramon Allones Gigantes though. With regards to Boli GMs, I've had a couple of vintage ones and they were amazing but the few I've had of the post '07 run just have not impressed.
Colt45 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 More for conversation than anything else, if he loves his Fuentes, I'd probably fill the humidor with various sizes of those and whatever else he truly enjoys. Then on top of that, a nice sampler of Havanas - a few each of a variety of marques and sizes, to allow him to determine what he might like and not like. As an aside, I'm not big on saving cigars, wine, etc for "special" occasions - I consider every day I open my eyes in the morning a special occasion
Smallclub Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 What about an assortment of 10 (or 12) count boxes, to choose from: - Lusitanias (x10) - Monte 2 (x10) - Bolivar Gold Medal (x10) - Trinidad Robusto T (x12) - Bolivar Royal corona A/T (x10) - Punch Punch A/T (x10) ?
beamer Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 If he really likes the high end NCs, then maybe that is a safer bet? Find a box of Opus? Otherwise, the suggestions here are excellent as usual.
bc8436 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Has he tried CCs before? Also, does he tend to prefer specific vitola?
peanutpete Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Lusitanias are a great cigar and will age really well, on a side note hope you will not get him or your self in any trouble giving a cop an illegal substance
Guest blrrobinson21 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Lusitanias are a great cigar and will age really well, on a side note hope you will not get him or your self in any trouble giving a cop an illegal substance HA, I thought the same thing. To answer your question, Im a big fan of Padrons and Fuentes and yet, for what your talking about, I bet he would truly love any HQ box you get him I know I would. What a great present.
cigcars Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 He'll like the novelty of the gold foil on the Bolivar Gold Medals. Remember for a while they were going thru their rare and hard to get days. As they've recently been re-introduced, you can make him feel privy to get hold of a highly prized, rare commodity and give him a gift of a lifetime in his having Cuban (real Cuban) cigars! JM 2 Cts.
Dbone Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 One of the best cigars of the year for me, have been those from Rob's '09 Partagas 898. Full, complex, and wonderfully balanced. On the fuller side I really haven't had much better. Packaging and 898 presentation is first class. They will age wonderfully.
Plato Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 No one mentiomed the Trinidsd Ts. Robusto is his favorite size. If they are as good as I keep hearinf they are on this forum, i think i might have to get him at least a 12 box of those for him.
