difference between taste/quality between cab 50 and box 25 - today no they are most likely the same blendyears ago some say some brands had differant blends from Dress box to 50 Cab box of the same cigar.

50 cabs are not always better i have had some excellant dress boxes over Cabs many times its wise mans tail. People like cabs if aging their cigars they think they have a better tight seal not to let to much air in when aging their cigars.

Hope this helps...

Just my personal preference, but I prefer cabs over dress boxes. Not because I've noticed any difference in the taste of performance of the cigars, but rather it is because I prefer my cigars in the round...

I think you have stumbled upon a myth...

In my personal experience, never have I found a noticeable or even slight difference in the tasting notes.

Surely it is possible, but definitely not factual.

It is the personal preference of the individual. There is no difference in the cigars. For aging, I prefer a Cab. I also have many Dress Boxes. Find what you like and act accordingly.

The only cigar where I've found a noticable difference is the Partagas Lonsdale. Cab versions are so much better than DBs it's like a totally different cigar.

On the other hand, DB MAR 09 BPCs are the best BPC I've ever smoked.

No difference at all. I am amazed at how many hairs are split over cigars.

Jimmy I would say to those that prefer the cabs to age in because of "less air" that they should wrap db's in plastic and have even better aging.LOL.

No difference....just double the smoking pleasure. :)

In my experience this is just a myth. I have had AMAZING cigars out of dress boxes and TERRIBLE cigars out of cabs. The only difference is i think cabs are better for aging. Aesthetically i actually like dress boxes better. It's all just about preference.

For example, I have had both Cab and Dress box of Boli Simones RE, I didnt notice any difference while I have read others that have

Maybe more psychological than anything :)

There can be. But there's no rhyme or reason. I've had cigars with the same code and date from boxes and cabs and the packaging made no logical difference. One cab was excellent, another sucked, one dressed box was good, another very good. I look at it this way: all else being the same, I'd prefer cabs for aging, for their appearance, and for the storage container. But the bottom line is, I'm afraid, you just won't know unless you smoke one.

Funny...I like the cabs for aging purposes as well, but I much prefer the look of the dress boxes...

Jeez fellas.....I'm surprised I had to bring this up. The only real difference between cab of any size and dress boxes is the box press of many dress boxed cigars. Lots of people, and I'm one, prefer their cigars round, not squared off, but it is a minor consideration when I'm making a decision.

Dress boxes of Simones. Really?

Cabs = round cigars! Also, it's so much easier to remove the hideous health warning labels from wood than from dress box paper.

It might sound ridiculous, I mean I even question it sometimes, but to be honest I don't mind a box pressed cigar.. to an extent though of course. I don't know why, but a slight press on my cigar intrigues me. Just a quirky trait I guess??

You are not alone, there are other members who've stated they like a pressed cigar. I'm not one - I prefer mine round - it's mainly a personal

aesthetic. There is a "technical" aspect to it though, as I feel the compression ( not always, and probably not usually) can cause draw problems.

I'm also intrigue by this as well...just because I don't smoke many that r boxed pressed. I have only a small stash of NC (all Padron) and I think that is one of the many attributes that I like about them.

Yer I have often wondered what it is that I like about the press, I think its the way it sits in my fingers when im smoking it. I find alot of the Diplomaticos in the boxes of 10 are like this..

I enjoy a pressed cigar.

I suppose it has a similar appeal to the square watermelon - it should be round, and the fact that it's not somehow makes it more interesting, even if it still tastes the same.

Generally I'd agree with all those here saying that there is no difference --- heck I've been in factories myself and seen with my own eyes how apparently both cabs and dress boxes are filled from the same pile of cigars ... HOWEVER the one caveat I would add has to do with the Bolivar CE and Ramon Allones SS. Both Cab versions of these two sizes smoke like completely different cigars to me (much richer and fuller bodied) --- IMHO the Bolivar CE in Cab is a completely different animal to the box version.

Go figure.
