android Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 You are not alone, there are other members who've stated they like a pressed cigar. I'm not one - I prefer mine round - it's mainly a personalaesthetic. There is a "technical" aspect to it though, as I feel the compression ( not always, and probably not usually) can cause draw problems. This is a great observation by Colt and a con that I did not think of.

I've had hundreds of Padrons, and I'm still waiting for my first one that doesn't draw perfectly.

Also keep in mind that many NC producers intentionally press their cigars prior to boxing, and that Cuban cigars become pressed simply by being in their (dress) boxes.

The Padrons definitely press their cigars prior to boxing.
Habanos2000 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 It might sound ridiculous, I mean I even question it sometimes, but to be honest I don't mind a box pressed cigar.. to an extent though of course. I don't know why, but a slight press on my cigar intrigues me. Just a quirky trait I guess?? I'm a fan of a nice box pressed cigar as well, they look great and I can't attribute any negative draw factors to the pressing as I haven't had a draw problem with any cigars packed since 07.
Scania Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 Generally I'd agree with all those here saying that there is no difference --- heck I've been in factories myself and seen with my own eyes how apparently both cabs and dress boxes are filled from the same pile of cigars ... HOWEVER the one caveat I would add has to do with the Bolivar CE and Ramon Allones SS. Both Cab versions of these two sizes smoke like completely different cigars to me (much richer and fuller bodied) --- IMHO the Bolivar CE in Cab is a completely different animal to the box version. Go figure. - Rudy - i hv boxes of RASS from factory TEB year 08 both dress box and Cab . Mayb it's how they hv aged in cab/box. Both are good but they tasted juz .... different ! Feel the same for bolivar CE ....Bolivar CE POS ABR 07 Cab 50 is a beautiful smoke NOW. Dress box ... different. So... they may come from the same pile of cigars. but put them in dress box and CAB.. give it time . IMHO... do make a diff
smokem Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 In my limited experience with BPCs, I never noticed a difference between 25 ct DBs vs 50 ct Cabs, other than the obvious. I like cabs but just earlier today I opened a box of HU Regalias and I really enjoyed the box press feel.
Alberto_Magnus Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 IMHO there is a difference in the quality of the cigars, albeit not always, and less and less as the years go by. I also prefer 50cabs as many noticed, they are better for aging: not only they're more air-tight, but also 50 babies sharing their essential oils, side by side...whoa. Maturing gets better.
