Hi brothers, here I'm trying to understand how the forum work. It has been a pleasure to me to be reading all you guys wrote about me. I have not words to thanks all of you for that.you just make me feel the proudest men in the world. Thanks a lot for that12 points

Exactly. It has been (incorrectly) bastardised from "tang". Something in English can be "tangy" i.e. have "tang". Eg. Citrussy tang. Metallic tang. But not "twang". Twang is when you twang a guitar string for example.Or, in conversational parlance, someone's accent could be said to have "a posh twang" or a "northern twang". Twang describes an audible entity rather than one that can be tasted.5 points

Had the same situation last week when we were at our resort in Mexico. The gift shop had a walk in humidor and every single box was fake. I met two really nice guys who bought cigars there, 2 each at $50 US, cash, a pop. First of all this had gone on long before I got there and will continue long after I am gone. Many who are more knowledgeable than I have probably said something but no one cares. I told the two guys not to buy any more and I treated them to a couple each of beautiful sticks. We had a great time! They are both customers here now. By interfering here, you will make the daughter feel awful and embarrass the man. And for what. 5 lousy cigars. Move on. It is not our job to police the Cuban cigar world. Offer the gentleman one next time you meet.4 points

Come on. Your first post on your first day and it's a "hey, is this fake" thread? Go introduce yourself properly and let folks get to know you. This is locked. Wilkey4 points

First I'd like them to restrict marcas to being made in specific factories. Then I'd like them to offer a roller specific box program (imagine the pricing! ), and finally I'd like them to assemble and roll sticks consistently from specific estates. Always changing the source of the blend from year to year is akin to the wine industry only offering "Red Table Wine."2 points

I'm not terribly sophisticated or broadly educated when it comes to teas I'm afraid. I've stumbled upon a couple of pairings and a general rule though. The fermented teas, particularly Pu Erh (a black tea) seem to have less of the overbearing tannic/astringent qualities that Colt45 alludes to. Pu Erh (leaf or bag) can be left in the cup practically without limit, without the tea going bitter. Because of these qualities I find it to go very well my Punch Punch and Sir Winstons (happy coincidence!). In the green teas, the Governer's Green Tea that they sell at the Metropole in Hanoi also does well, but one has to steep it lightly to avoid the overpowering problems mentioned above; and that brings up the 'general rule' that (IMHO only!), teas actually do better with cigars if the tea has been steeped lightly rather than one going for a strong brew. Intuitively, we thing 'cigar + tea' and that we're going to have to really muscle up that tea for it to keep up, but then you loose the lighter nuances of the tea as well as its service as a palate cleanser. Wish I had the time to explore the universe of teas more broadly, but usually by the time I get to the bar it's evening and therefore cocktail hour!2 points

It sounds like you described Socialism (where an elite hold everything in trust for the populace), rather than Communism (where there is no elite and everything is held in common). It's similar to folks who spoke about "Communist Russia" during the Red Scare, when, in the very name USSR, the nation was described as a Socialist Republic. If anything binds a nation to slavery, it is debt, not political ideology. Remember, hunter and gatherer cultures successfully proved the viability of communism for thousands of years, until greed, genocide, "progress," and "convert or die," was imposed upon them. To refuse to separate political ideology with bad actors who advance it is to throw the baby out with the bath water.2 points

Another related characteristic that has been often noted: clean on the palate. Very rare to get an NC that leaves your tongue clean and happy. Just as rare to find a Habanos that leaves your tongue nasty. The very significant exception in my experience, the truly horrible Monte Double Edmundo. God, what a piece of trash. Wilkey2 points

Ah! Believe it or not but I find the smell at cold of nicaraguan puros (Tatuaje, Illusione for instance) to be very specific: more pungent, sharper, but less rich, and (you can tell I'm french) less appetizing …2 points

In short, no, not really. Oftentimes you get what has been described as "barnyard" but is more descriptively labeled as earthy, organic, composty, with sweet pleasant sweatiness. Sometimes, it's a floralness. Often it's a sweet leatheriness. However, I would never offer that there is such a profile that is diagnostic. Meaning the absence of which definitively identifies a cigar as non-Cuban, or the presence of which identifies it as Cuban. There simply is no such thing. Wilkey2 points

As some of you may have heard, Hamlet has moved himself and his family to the US in the past couple of months. Hamlet is a friend to many and I consider him a brother of mine. Hamlet loves Cuba with a passion. He is Cuban to his bones. Hamlet is one of the most sincere, hard working and genuine people I know. It was his love of the leaf, people and passion that earned him a preeminent position among the finest cigar rollers in the world. The decision to leave is one that he has wrestled with for a long time. In the end his decision to leave was to do the best for his family and to challenge himself to be the best he can possibly be. It has nothing to do with current US/Cuba political changes. Every man and woman deserves the opportunity to challenge themselves and enact their dreams. Hamlet is working with Rocky Patel in Naples Florida. He is working in the Divan there (Burn) and finding his feet in a whole new world. If you are passing by that neck of the woods, pop in and say hello to one of the absolutely great guys of our industry. Hermano, you can now join the forum and keep us in the loop as to how you are finding this "whole new world". On behalf of myself and our members we wish you every success and support1 point

I get a lot of e-mails/pm's from US members as to how to travel to Cuba. i hope the below article sheds some light. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/scott-norvell/travel-to-cuba-got-a-lot-easier_b_6776384.html1 point

Nothing to do with cold aroma but a typical characteristic of Cuban tobacco when smoking is a very looong finish. I've never even come close to experiencing such a long (or as pleasant) a finish with NC's as I do with CC's.1 point

I think so as well. This move was not done on a whim overnight. Knowing Hamlet and his passion for the leaf and his talents, he will not release a product to the market unless its damn near perfection. I just hope he can live out his dreams and be as successful as he deserves to be1 point

I couldn't agree more. If Cuban cigars and their quality mean more to you than the lives of other people... You've got bigger problems than what you're smoking.1 point

As an American, I'm horrified! Trying to use the U.S. to make money?! Selling cigars? Next thing you know, those scheming Cubans will be trying to sell us rum, coffee, sugar, and who knows what else. Our way of life will be changed irreparably!!!!!1 point

NICE! I truly LOVED the Atari 2600, the simplicity of the controller. We sat around for hours and hours playing Pitfall, Kung Fu, Centipede and many others. Always been a console gamer, always will.1 point
