  1. Today is my birthday so I've enjoyed myself a bit. Started my morning with coffee and a HdM Hoyo de San Juan. Very nice for such a young cigar (OCT 14). Tasty enough for a box imo, and at that vitola it will last a while for me. At lunch, I met up with some buddies for a quick Diplomaticos 5. Got this one as a ride along from BonVivant so I'm not sure the age. Smoked like a dream. Decided to cap the day off with a '98 Trinidad Fundadores. Construction is flawless and the flavors are so rich.

  4. Who cares? We want stubby cigars with a 56 rg that can be smoked in 30 minutes and which price could buy 5 or 6 petits coronas, don't we?

  8. I agree, super classy brand. Maybe that's why it's being killed, classy and Cuban cigars are starting to be strange bedfellows. It seems to all be about big, loud and obnoxious cigars. None of the RE releases have been able to hold a candle to the Corona, Grand Corona, Panetela or Imperials in balance or reflection of what makes QDO unique in Cuba nevermind worldwide. I wonder how long the corona has to last. It cant be good business to have a $8 cigar that outclasses the latest $100 Cohiba Dongmaster 3000

  9. Me personally, I don't understand why people knowingly smoke fake cuban cigars... you have no idea what's in them. If you've seen some pictures that I have, you probably wouldn't do it again either.

  16. Di: I feel like Rob. I have everything I want or need. When gift time comes around my wife has no idea what to buy me. I simply made one request this year for a special gift. This may sound goofy but here it goes. I use to shave with the Gillette Mach 3-4 razors. Then I wanted to try something different. I did some research and wanted to go a different route and start using a double edge safety razor. Let me tell you there is no other feeling than a barbershop shaving feel. I told her I wanted the entire set up. $175 for razor handle, $50 shave soap, $10 bowl, $30 in feather double edge razors, $30 post shave balm. This was the best gift a man could ask for. My shaves are baby butt smooth and very fresh, just like leaving the barbershop. Just my 2 cents.

  20. Good morning Di How about an experience that he won't forget such as: SuperV8 / Ferrari race track drive Flight in spitfire plane Hot air balloon trip (you could join him on this one) Skydive (tandem if your keen) Most of the above and more can be ordered via Red Balloon (they have a heap of other options) Of course if all else fails you could wrap yourself up in a large red ribbon and bow and let the sparks fly!! Happy shopping Joker

  23. Another good night with the Dublin boys! Finished off this challenge by putting to bed 5 cigars from 85 plus some cigars gifted by Yoirgos and Dara and Foxy. Cheers boys!!! I'm just gonna call this finished!! So that's AU$2077 going to the kids in nicaragua to give them a few square meals for a while. Thank you to everyone who participated and brought out their old stock and to those who just smoked more of the stuff they had! Every dollar made a real difference. This is what makes FoH such a great place. Excellent work all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  27. Ancient Microbes May Have Created The World's Largest Gold Mines Nearly half the gold ever mined comes from the Witwatersrand Basin, a layer of gold-flecked rock that spreads out under South Africa. The mines there are famously deep and prolific. Why is there so much gold concentrated in this one small part of the Earth’s crust? A Swiss earth scientist has a fascinating theory, and it involves mats of ancient microbes. The story, according to a study by Christoph A. Heinrich published this week in Nature Geoscience, begins 3 billion years ago. Earth had yet to undergo its Great Oxidation Event, when microbes began pumping oxygen into the atmosphere, creating the air that we know and breathe today. Back then, the atmosphere was still full of gases like sulfur, which would have reacted with water to become hydrogen sulfide, pouring acid rain over the young Earth. So here’s the mystery. Geologists have long known that the Witwatersrand Basin’s gold originated with the rich gold veins of the Kaapvaal Craton mountain range, in northeastern South Africa. But how did that gold get hundreds of miles south? According to Heinrich, hydrogen sulfide rained down on the mountains, and the sulfur reacted with gold to create molecules that could be dissolved in water. Those molecules then traveled through rivers that dumped out, finally, into the basin. How do we get from that gold solution to gold ore? Heinrich thinks ancient microbes living in thick, slimy mats were responsible for pulling the metal out of the water in a process called precipitation. The microbes sucked up the gold, and when they died, they fell to the bottom of the shallow basin. After their bodies decomposed, only the gold was left. Heinrich based this possible scenario on the fact that some microbes today can reduce gold from its ionic form in water to its solid elemental form. Microbes, as tiny as they may be individually, are powerful enough to reshape the landscape in aggregate. You might even have them to thank for the gold in your circuitboard.

  28. Agnes turns 60 at the end of March and I suggested this to the daughter as a gift. It was voted down: http://www.incrediblethings.com/food/this-toaster-toasts-your-selfie-onto-bread/ If that doesn't appeal to you, perhaps this for grilling on the deck:

  31. I like a genuine "Get out Jail Free Card". This is a certified, notarized, and laminated card you give him so the next time he F**Ks up big time, he can whip this out and you don't get to get mad at him. Yes...this is serious! I find that the smalls things mean more to me than large, lavish gifts. Edit - I live events, moments, experiences. A exotic car on a racetrack. Hot air balloon ride. A run through a forest of drop bears. Sailing excursion.

  32. In all seriousness. Nothing is better than a present for yourself. So, taking that into consideration, here are your options:- 1.) I think you guys would enjoy some dance classes. Book a course in salsa or tango dancing. 2.) Other than that, I think a his and hers bicycle combo. Go with a single speed free wheeler, for max aesthetics, with baskets on, so you two can picnic or go to the markets on the weekends. No kidding, some of the best fun as a couple is riding bikes together. 3.) Finally, there are some amazing concerts, opera and ballet coming up at the Lyric theatre. Book tickets, and go to the GoMA restaurant before or after. Supplementary option:- purely a present for him. A really nice pen. Go to Mont Blanc in town. Pick up a pair of shoes for you while you are in town. Jer xx

  42. I find the PLP, PLMC, and PLPC all go well with coffee.in fact PLP is my go to morning smoke when I have one. I find the PLMC to be a really good smoke but it's a sipping cigar. Smoke this cigar too quick and you lose the subtleties with it. When taken at a leisurely pace, this cigar is very good and very good value. You do get the odd tight draw with these as well.
