Some handsome friends

Recommended Posts

I was doing a little scrounging around for something different to smoke today and I came upon this box. I know that many of you know the souls of my friends here intimately. For you, my fine companions need no introduction. But for those of you who are still exploring the yard looking for truffles in the form of larger ring cigars might I suggest the siblings of my friends here are certainly worth having over for dinner?

A finer bundle I have not seen in a while now. Beautiful medium colorado hue, sweet floral and earthy aroma, slight satin sheen, springy and firm with a beautiful draw. Did I mention that the one I smoked today was a dream come true? There was a wonderful blend of cream and old world tobacco with a certain note, a tone, a hint of sour tannins made this cigar like those of the 90's more so than those of the new millenium. This cigar was a pleasure to smoke. I had to deliberately slow down and not drown her with lusty drafts. In order to finish it, I just sat in the drive in front of my home allowing my earthly wows to simply drift away with that of a grey plume!

Thin Ring Gauge Habanos are simply the best! Sir Pig, I have a box with the same box code and they look just as delicious as yours, yet I have not dug into them as of yet. Sleeping nicely while I finish an open box of 03's

about seven years ago when we did the last videos (when will they be posted, smithy?), we did a couple of thin rings.

without this becoming a spoiler, do you guys that love the anorexic cigars have any thoughts on the monte especial No 1?

also, i know it is discontinued but has anyone ever smoked a monte 7? they surely can't come much thinner than that!

Loved the flavor profile I got from an 2000 Especiale, just couldnt get over the ring size/length combo, too slim for me..........yep, I know I am weird

Yes my friend and I am pretty sure I have got at least one left somewhere. I will scrounge around and snap another gratuitous brag pic, as was indicated earlier, assuming I still have one of course!!! For a guy that loves Diplos, especially the skinny ones I can't say that my last one, smoked a few years ago, was anything special, perhaps beyond its time.

As far as the Monte Esp 1 and 2... both are favorites although I prefer the #1. They are also smoking divinely but I am currently working on some turn of the century models. -Piggy

The Montecristo Especiales No.1 is absolutely one of my favorites. The characteristic that I find in both the Monte Esp No.1 & no.2 is a Gingerbread quality that I do not find in any other vitolas in the marca.

I was fortunate to have smoked a Diplomaticos No.7 which was located down in your area, my good friend Froghair sent me one to sample because I enjoy thin ring gauged cigars and love the Diplomaticos marque. Wish I could have found a couple of boxes, but they were long gone.

I just can't say enough good things about this cigar. It deserves a place in the humidor of any aficionado, alongside its siblings, the Connaisseurs Nos. 1 and 3. Like Tampa, I am enjoying the hell out of a box of '03s, while my '07 sleeping beauties await.

I would have rated the Partagas Connaisseurs as the most complex of all Partagas cigars, until I smoked the early 2006 898V's. Now, these two vitolas vie for my praise and attention. Both are among the most age-worthy of all Partagas cigars.

As to the Monte Especiales, I find them much more consistent, and often more flavorful, than other Montecristos. A truly great cigar that stands the test of time.

I'm struck by the idea that you chanced upon these when rummaging through your humidor! You must have a lot of stock. "Oh look, a great box of Havanas that I totally forgot about." Sadly, I only have about a dozen boxes in my stash, and I have each and every one memorized.

12 boxes is nothing to sneeze at!

Trust me it is more a matter of poor memory and laziness in bookkeeping than one of excess; additionally it is a double edged sword. I thought for example that I had more than one box of SdC #3's, the jury is still out on that one, but I don't think that I will find any more. I once promised a host to bring some nice RyJ Churchills that I 'had' only to discover that I no longer possessed them. I forget what cigars I have all the time! A year from now I will likely turn over a bunch of cigars and discover them (the SdC #2) again.... and once more be stoked to find them! It makes for a nice discovery or an embarrassment depending on the situation.

Cheers, Piggy
