Let’s smoke the #1 cigar. I am somewhat disappointed as this torp is my favourite of the bunch and always under the radar compared to the M2 or P2. So now these will be hard to come by and 1000 a box lol.

I’ve always been curious about the platinos. Early reports if I recall correctly said they were quite mild. How was it?

Ouch, I didn't know CA picked this one until now.  I agree that the HU2 is a great cigar but I hate that they're publicizing it.

Are they really that great? I have smoked a few HU GR #2 and they were quite nice but never tried the standard release...

I've posted a couple of times on them.  If you can find the oily dark wrappered versions and put 3-5 years on them, they are really really good.  I like them fresh too but 3+ years seems to add magic.  They aren't powerhouses but they are very well balanced medium to light medium good performing cigars.  In my experience, they almost never have construction flaws which probably kicked them up a notch with CA

Wanted that tasty Partagas profile and got triple tunnels…

That’s the first time this happens to me. Funny thing is that after the first draw I’ve felt something strange in the flavor profile… there was this bitterness that was not supposed to be there… after a few puffs I’ve decided to take some of the ash and here we go: 3 straight tunnels. At first I was concerned if it was my storage, humidity or temperature issue. Then I remembered that every single one from the same humidor smoked just fine (flawless most of the time).

Sucks big time, but it is what it is.

Not mild at all and still got plenty of legs to go even after 13 years.

In fact, the first quarter was quite spicy, then it toned down. Not sure if it is due to the foil wrapping?!?

Tasted strong cedar, starting around the last third. I should have let it go and head for hot shower and go to bed. But I decided to nub it and caught cold which resulted in getting the ‘Rona.😓😓😓

I was in NYC for a couple of days this week and had a great steak at the original Smith & Wollensky’s. Flight back was cancelled due to storms so got home a day late to a lot of snow. Ended up taking the rest of Friday off and made it an HU day.

For the price, quite average. First third was garbage. Grassy and bitter. Almost pitched it.

2nd and final third were how I remember it used to smoke. Shortbread and citrusy. 85 overall.

Started with a Fonseca No. 1 (OEP Nov 2014) from our hosts.  I'm breaking in a new (to me) humidor so I think the RH was a bit high, as I didn't recall this having so much "mongrel," though it became quite enjoyable in the latter half.  ...Followed with a Sig I (ETU Nov 2016) because I wanted a bit more  ...and Diana often describes these as "mongrel in a dinner jacket," which is (happily) spot on.

Nice comparison (for me), though I'm going to lower the RH going fwd
