Ah man, that's a bummer. I have smoked a lot of those and while I have had some really excellent experiences with that smoke ( I also like that vitola) there have been some real milk toast paper tasters. I'm sure youre partial to Cubans, but I might respectfully recommend a joya de nic Numero uno as something that's similar to what that epernay should have been. Or.... Maybe try another epernay, or a haut 10. As a recent convert to CCs I admit they seem to the best. But there's some non cc stuff that's certainly worth smoking. 

Just tried the other Illusione I had. Singulare Kadosh. Pitched it too. Just one dimensional. Peppery air. Really strange how they’re rated so highly. I hope i just got duds. Lit up a Monte MC to salvage the night. Much better.

I’ll give your recommendations a go though.

I smoked a few Illusione Epernay L'elegance and I liked them a lot. But that was quite some time ago. Perhaps the blend isn't what it used to be.

I figured it was OEM. I think it was just a weird angle exacerbated by the .5 issue. Drive on!

A cheap & cheerful that ages very well. A lot of life still, pronounced evolution. Nub-worthy.

Here’s a young PSD4, clearance box and not particularly spectacular looking (the photo flatters), from LTE FEB 22. Smoking really well. Classic Partagas just off-savoury, not as rich and interesting as the best examples, but good for near term smoking. A touch of pepper creeps into the last third, but nothing rough.

I hear they’re amazing. I must gotten a dud. I have another to try down the line.
