Today is somewhat bitter sweet. I am enjoying this excellent Connie A (MEG FEB 16) by myself on this gorgeous Monday. My daughter is now off to Jr Kindergarten and today is usually a day I would spend with her. We would go grocery shopping, ride to the park on her bike or wagon, go to the library... I will never forget those days. But she is happy and so excited for school.

I just went though the same thing with my 2.5 year old son this July. Haven’t gotten used to it yet.

Had some good meetings all day with a client and came to Carnegie Club in midtown to smoke a very generous trade from @canadianbeaver, a 2011 Ramon Allones Extra (also the my favorite band of all cigars ever. It’s nice to be visiting a city that doesn’t demonize cigar smoke like LA.

I agree but being aged they slide off easily. I have a couple of boxes that were rolled for humidors to be auctioned at the Partagas Festival back in 2014.

This has been a great box so a while ago I put it aside and started a new box. The new box has been good but not this good.

Again this box delivered and I enjoyed it with an Americano while watching MNF.

A few smokes from the last two weeks.
First finishing up the summer season in Europe with a smoke on St. Marks square in Venice. Love Venice!

Then a quick stop at home in Japan with a small bbq. Need to get a bigger place with a proper garden and space for a real bbq!

Now in the Emirates lounge in Dubai enjoying some MNF.

Starting the day with a 1966.

We’re not supposed to do this, I know, but... a Cohiba Esplendido ROTT. Within an hour of the mailman calling, after travelling right round the world. Couldn’t resist.

This is from a carton of 15, code is TPO ABR 18. Wrapper is quite dark, mottled, thin and sheeny. Construction and draw have been excellent.

Not the classic Cohiba flavours! This is darker and fuller bodied. More nuts and dark milky coffee, no sign of the grassy citrus that Cohiba (uniquely) can bring. In fact the last third reminds me of Upmann, with that rich roasted nuttiness. There’s a waft of fine wood smoke, and an undertow of damp earth. Satisfying.

In the last third the burn gets reluctant. No draw issues, no uneven combustion, it just feels too damp and oily. So my conclusion is that these will be really, really good with more time. 

These cardboard packs are significantly cheaper than the varnished boxes, and still available in the store. Get in there!
