Cigar 'Bucket List"

What is your Cigar “bucket list”?

We are all getting older and I have given some thought as to some of the Cigar related things I would like to do before Hades calls.

1. Spend 2 weeks with Don Alejandro Robaina or Pancho Cuba on their Finca’s during February. I would love to see the day to day machinations of a finca in full flight. The evening discussions around the dinner table on quality of leaf, problems, solutions, HSA.

2. Do a complete video report on the process of HSA choosing and blending a new cigar. From the boardroom to the factory tasting room to the marketing department to the distributors marketing meeting.

3. Post embargo a FOH Fiesta to end all fiesta’s in Havana. From fly fishing in Las Salinas to Pinar to the blind tasting/dinner of a lifetime on the stone walkways of the El Moro fort overlooking Havana. How I would love to have 300 FOH members from around the world in Havana together!

4. The creation of a FOH line of cigars: 3 sizes: Carlota in cabs of 50, a Flying Pig and a Dalia extra. The name of the line….”Corazón de Cuba”

5. To enjoy a cigar with my eldest son Ben in Havana. Watching the sun come up along with Jose and Hamlet.

I hope Hades doesn’t call too soon!

To live long enough and in good enough health to smoke all of the Cuban cigars that I now have.

Very prosaic, I know.

Wait!

I just did the math. At my current rate, it's only a little over four years.

Revised cigar bucket list:

To live long enough and in good enough health to attend Rob's first FOH Fiesta in Cuba.

Outstanding list Prez! Not much too add for me, as you've hit several of my before the pipers' call cigar dream list.

Spend time with Alejandro Robaina and learn the whole process, from planting, harvesting, fermentation, blending to rolling and packing.

Develop own blend with the HSA team and see to market.

Attend at least one blow out HSA weeklong event with Cuban food, music and cigars. Shared with other lovers of the cuban leaf.

Family vacation in Cuba, when son is old enough to appreciate cigars.

Enjoy a meal, drinks and smoke a Cohiba with my father, Fidel, Raul and Chris Hitchens.

As I have never been to Havana, just a trip alone would be the trip of a lifetime for me. But I would imagine that a tour of the Partagas factory followed by a nice lunch at a family home restaurant (i forgot the Cuban term for these semi-establishments) with great local food, a stroll down the Malecon in the mid-afternoon, dinner at some highly-rated restaurant, followed by some of the night life would be perfect. All the while, of course, I would be smoking some of the finest cigars this side of paradise.

If I had the chance to venture outside of the city, I would love to travel into the Pinar del Rio and visit the aforementioned fincas--especially Sr. Robaina's. I, like most habanos lovers, have always wanted to visit the birthplace of the cigars that give me so much pleasure.

In order to appreciate anything in life, the health of my loved ones and my own is the #1 issue.

That being said, I'd like to acquire a walk-in humi full of vintage smokes, including of course pre-revolution cigars.

But no need to daydream: having one good smoke by the pool with a Hacker Pschorr wheat beer, while the wife creams my back and speaks softly, is quite enough for me  . When my time's up, it would be the perfect situation to have a heart attack and leave quick.

Cheers!

1. Smoke a Dunhill Estupendos - My "Holy Grail"

2. See the industry free enough for someone to assume the risk of growing some of the older strains of tobacco and smoke cigars rolled from them

3. To attend the post embargo FOH Fiesta (actually, to go to Havana at all is on the list)

My bucket list would be:

1. To visit Cuba with my family, not only Havana and the the Pinar del Rio, but the rest of the country as well.

2. To tour the various factories (Partagas of course as well as all the other major ones) and talk to the torcedors.

3. To tour the different tobacco farms in the Pinar del Rio (during the tobacco growing season) and speak with the vegueros.

4. To blend my own Cuban cigar (likely with a lot of help).

5. To experience the people, food, music, culture, architecture and nightlife of Cuba, especially in Havana.

6. To share my love of cigars with my son (It may be awhile as he is only 6 years old).

7. To smoke a freshly rolled Cuban cigar.

8. To attend Rob's FOH Fiesta in Havana.

9. To have my wife finally understand my obssession with Cuban cigars.

10. To do all of this while smoking the finest fresh and vintage Cuban cigars in the world with a mojito in hand.

My bucket list:-

1. To go back in time and share a fine cigar with my father (he smoked a pipe (at my disgust at the time)) as we fished for trout in tasmania under a rainy sky. I am pretty sure he never had a cigar, and never though we would share one together.

2. To smoke cigar and fly fish for 2-3 days with the FOH gang (Ken, Rob - not sure who else fly fishes) - preferably in northern australia

3. Participate in a FOH video review - perhaps of something very classic, like a Dunhill Cabinetta, Davidoff Dom Perignon -- I have the cigars fellas, just am located in Seattle now, one day i hope.

4. Build a walk in humi and throw a cigar bash

And of course to own bungallo on Cuba where I can meet my international friends))
