If you're looking an amazing value on a new watch, Glycine has big sale going on.

The value on those is great for a Swiss automatic. I know that the ownership group gets something of a bad rap (Invicta) but I think the Glycine stuff uses tried and true movements and has traditional styling so it's not that much of an issue.

I've driven by their factory many times in Biel.

My mother just handed me this. Supposedly my grandfather bought it for his mother in 1945. Rose gold. Still works!!

I know little to nothing about watches.

Bulova is a great legacy brand that has changed hands a few times and seems content for now to primarily market fashion watches which to be fair is most of what people buy at this point. Telling someone that they can buy a dumb watch that only tells time and maybe the date for $500 and they won't need a battery but will have to get it serviced for a couple of hundred bucks every few years is a tough sell these days. An Apple Watch costs less at this point.

Is that what is says on the dial? Kind of small and blurry for my eyes. Bulova at that time was a highly esteemed brand and innovator in the watch industry. Famous for tuning fork movements.

I have always worn a Rolex but I think of Roger Daltrey when I hear Bulova.

Rolex just raised their prices again. Really glad I spent my NFT gains on a few watches during that insane time where it was falling out of the sky.

There are great watches at virtually every price point. It may take a bit of searching but once you know what sort of watch you like - style case shape dial color complications movement type and so on - you can probably just enter your preferences into any search engine and find various watches that fit the profile. There are watches made in Switzerland and Japan and Germany and even some brands in places like Scandinavia and China has some very well made watches coming from the San Martin brand. Sure the Rolexes and Blancpains of the world are expensive but you can get something similar for a small fraction of the price.

My main limiting factor is how hard I am on my watches and I am reluctant to get anything that I would likely break. I managed to break the clutch (yes automatic watches have a clutch) on one of my better watches by wildly waiving at hornets that were attacking me when I accidentally stirred up their nest. Why I was wearing a nice watch doing yadrdwork I cannot fathom. I've scratched the crystal on my GMT watch and managed to magnetize my titanium chronograph. It's all fixable but watch makers move fairly slowly in my area. It took about four months to get the clutch fixed on that one watch for example. Of course, every so many years you have to have the movement lubricated and regulated in an automatic watch.

Yes it is also inscribed inside the clasp. Still works remarkably.
