@SigmundChurchill Your trip looks like a blast. My wife and her cousin just got back from a trip to Switzerland and loved it. She loved Lucerne until she loved Grindlewald, until she loved Zurich.  Now she’s trying to figure out how to move there 🤣

I’m not much of a watch guy, but she did bring back a nice Christmas present for me. I once had a Rolex Datejust two tone that I never liked. Too bulky. This is definitely more my style. Light and casual.

Nice watch!

We really just go to Switzerland to ski. Geneva is the closest airport to much of the Alps, so we always seem to end up here for a day or two at the end of the trip.

If you go to Bern canton, the Swatch HQ looks really cool.

How was stock in different stores?  Did the Rolex or Patek boutiques have their line ups available for sale?

Not sure about Patek. You needed an appointment to get in, but I don't know of any Patek dealer that will sell you a watch on the spot, as an unknown walk-in.

Rolex was the same. Lots of watches to look at, but none for sale.

I thought with the Bucherer acquisition, the Geneva boutique was supposed to be actually selling watches.

I haven't heard that so I didn't bother asking if I could actually buy anything.

That's like so 2010.

Never been into watches, started looking a few months back. My first piece. Already eyeing up another.

Well done. They offer a lot of value, and they're not well known in the States.

I’ve had this one on since Christmas.

I like how crisp the hands and dial are.

Wow! So pretty! Watch discussions are dangerous because they suddenly make people want expensive things they never even considered before. Mechanical watches especially have something addictive about them. I recently saw shapermint reviews while shopping online and somehow still ended up spending more time looking at watches instead of clothes. Different hobbies but same spending problem honestly. Great collections here.

I'm partial to dive watches. Since I had three kids and two dogs my watches have always taken a beating. I find that divers are pretty robust and have held up well over the years. On some level the depth rating bears some relationship to the case stability and the pressure resistance of the crystal but in my experience any solidly built watch with any depth rating from 200 meters or more should hold up reasonably well. Just my experience. I envy those that can wear delicate dress watches.

I have kept one Dive watch in the Oris Barrier Reef 500m LE.

It doesn't get too much time on the wrist but I do love it.

I love the color contrast with the yellow highlights. Oris makes a very underrated watch. They are well built and work well for what they are designed for. They make a watch with a depth gauge that is too big for me to wear but it is so cool. They also make a diver regulator that is too big for daily wear but again super cool. Thanks for sharing that.

How does the day function work? Does the ring turn or is the yellow hand for the day?

On the Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition II, the day markers are highlighted using a rotating under-dial disc that exposes a bright yellow indicator through a circular ring of slots.

The Dial Layout: The days of the week are printed in an inner ring (chapter ring) centered around the middle of the dial. Next to each printed day is a small, cut-out slot.

The Mechanism: Underneath the main dial sits a moving disc driven by the automatic Oris Caliber 735 movement. This disc features a single, solid block of bright yellow.

The Highlight: As the watch passes midnight, the underlying disc jumps forward, aligning the yellow marker directly beneath the slot of the current day, making it stand out vividly against the deep blue dial.

In your picture, what day of the week is it?

I think it's missing the sub-dial indicator! :surprised: If not, might need a bit of servicing if the indicator is frozen.

The yellow day indicator appears in slots, eg above WED, as per the image below.

And here's a little vid of the first edition of the Oris GBR (Rob's is the 2nd edition, I believe).

Let's set the Wayback Machine to... oh good lord, it was a bloody long time ago! 16 years ago when Smithy and Wazza were still young...ish.
