El Presidente Posted June 8 Posted June 8 We did the Beef index check in and that was an eye opener We are a global forum/community. I find this stuff fascinating. Q. What is the rent in your hometown for a 2 bedroom apartment (average), less than 5 km (3 miles) from the CBD/town centre. Brisbane, Average is $700 AUD per week ($500 USD) + Utilities.
Li Bai Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Q. What is the rent in your hometown for a 2 bedroom appartment (average), less than 5 km (3 miles) from the CBD/town centre. Where I live it would be somewhere between 400-450 usd per week, as for Paris intra-muros it can go from 450 (you wouldn't want to live there 😅😅) to 1000usd+ according to the arrondissement. Plus utilities of course. 1 1
Popular Post LaoFan Posted June 8 Popular Post Posted June 8 A decent 2 bdrm spot in downtown Guangzhou would be between 300-400 USD a MONTH. 5 1 1
BrightonCorgi Posted June 8 Posted June 8 In Boston area the average is around $4,300 a month. The sketchiest crap hole going for at least $2,500. 4 2
Popular Post alloy Posted June 8 Popular Post Posted June 8 Where I live in N. Texas, the going rate for a two bed, two bath apartment is $2400 to $3200 a month. 5
JPark3 Posted June 8 Posted June 8 The lowest you'll find around me is $1,500, usually between $1,700-$2k and can climb higher. 3
JohnS Posted June 8 Posted June 8 The median price in Sydney is about the same as Brisbane. That is, $AU700 per week. 3
treberty Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Right now in Montreal it'll range from around $1350 USD / month + utilities, right next to a subway line, in an OK neighborhood to $2200 USD per month in a trendy area. 4
ha_banos Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Average 3000gbp/month around 3 miles arc of central London. West and North can touch 4k. East and south 3.5k London is an odd place. And it's not doing itself any favours over time. 3
Popular Post cnov Posted June 8 Popular Post Posted June 8 £900-£1100 South West UK. Not the best place for jobs, but perfect if you run your own business or work from home. These are houses and bungalows, couldn't find any flats/apartments. Nice gardens too. 5
Popular Post joeypots Posted June 8 Popular Post Posted June 8 Wellfleet Cape Cod. This town is extremely seasonal, 60%+ non resident owners, and there probably isn't a two bed for rent year round unless it's an illegal residence and there are a s**t ton of them, or a subsidized housing complex. We also have what is known as snob zoning, one acre minimum lot size for new construction and no multiple unit dwellings. Also, about 60% of the town is in conservation in perpetuity, it's a national park, The Cape Cod National Seashore. Many year-round people have illegal residence on their land like a big shed with water and electric connected to the main house. They rent the house by the week in the summer. These are people with jobs, the summer money makes it possible to have some semblance of a middle class life. Local officials will ignore a housing violation that isn't blatantly visible. There are exceptions and the discrepancy between population vs housing availability is causing serious problems for all of the communities around here. "work force" housing is probably our #1 political issue. A two bedroom house here, and most are three beds, will run between 650,000$ and 1,100,000$ Most people who buy these houses as second homes. It's not as bad as it used to be but most of the housing around here is empty most of the time. Most rentals are weekly during the summer and run 1500$ and much, much more. Year round steady work that will pay a living wage is very hard to find. Professional people do okay, but even MDs find it hard to establish themselves here. Just try to get a GP after you move here. Most local people own their own business. Year round apartments are starting to be built and there are 65 units just completed that have severe application requirements, local native residents, people in need, people who work for the town, etc. A pal of mine just got a one bed two room unit, great for him, at 1700$/month. There is a political war going on here over a proposal to build a couple of hundred units on an old cottage colony. 5
JohnnyO Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Orlando $1800/month, Miami closer to $3000 unless you want to live in an economically disadvantaged neighborhood. 4 1

Chitmo Posted June 8 Posted June 8 In Halifax it starts around $3000Cad/month downtown, it’s not much cheaper where I am in the burbs…Around $2500/month. The market here went wild during Covid when everyone switched to working from home. Housing pretty much doubled in the span of 18-24 months. Tried to convince the wife to let me pull out some equity to stock up on Behikes and she shot me down! 😢 2 1

mikejh Posted June 8 Posted June 8 $2200 plus in Bellingham, WA. When I was first married, our 2 bedroom apartment was $575. 2
Ford2112 Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Wait until I post what it costs to live in Monterey CA. It isn’t pretty. 2 1
riderpride Posted June 9 Posted June 9 The range in Calgary appears to be $1800-2700 depending on location for the average person. $5000-7000 for upscale locations. Cheers! 2
