We have all seen the crazy reviews in CA… With notes of pencil lead!!!

What are some crazy flavors you have come across and which cigar was it from?

Well the other night I was smoking a new Edición Limitada 2011 - Short Hoyo Pirámides and about an inch into it I got a blast of coconut that only lasted for a few minutes.

I’m not the best at zeroing in on a lot of specific notes, but pencil lead (I say pencil shavings) is one that’s actually pretty clear to me - to me it’s basically has to do with a strong cedar note with a hint of earth and some astringency.

CAO Amazon Basin…mushroom-y earthy strangeness. Like Trader Joe’s Umami powder. I’ve only tried the small vitola called “The Dagger” but wasn’t a fan. That’s from the 2025 crop and I tried it after a month rest. I will revisit in 6 months. I have 5 toros from the 2026 crop resting. I’ll give it another go eventually.

Copenhagen Long Cut, distinctive, coming and going from an El Pulpo the Eel. It was mesmerizing.

It's been a while and was long before I kept notes but I have had one or two Cuban cigar that had a strong flavor of soap.

I am not someone who can easily identify many even basic/common flavors, but I had a box of San Cristobal Mercaderes that smelled like you were burning incense from a Catholic church. Never got it again from another box of them, even slightly. I loved that aroma.

I've had kerosene come across before but actually found it enjoyable. I can't recall what cigar it was though.

Was it a cigar though?

It was 😁, see below as posted in 2023:

UBL MAR 23 BPC

It’s no MSU 18 but it’s pretty good if I forgive its youth. No harshness at all but not the flavor punch I’ve been used to. It’s got the right elements of slight sweetness and funky leather, it’s under medium body and is more oily than creamy, as a result, it almost has a kerosene vibe to it but isn’t unpleasant if that makes any sense.  It’s burning great and giving a pleasant buzz.  I think a few years down the road and this can be the well balanced treat I expect but it’s not there yet.  It’s not an ass kicker if that’s what’s expected but I’ll bet this will be a fine cigar a few more years down the road.

I try to stay away from real asylums, too, when I can help it.

I joined FOH with a good mind. I am now a shell of my former self!

Tinny metallic flavor usually describes a sick period. Unbearable to finish. Maybe that's what was happening. John

I’ve had this metal taste from a 20 bundle “value” cigar. 1st one was great. 2nd one I thought I bit my tongue or something. Not a good flavor.
