This weekend's poll is the first of a Cuban marca opinion run...we'll start with a big gun - Partagas!

Beyond the poll, discuss in general: e.g. where this marca ranks in your Cuban experience overall? what's your favourite cigar in the range? Your experience the first time you had one? How often do cigars from it appear in your regular rotation? What are they? etc., etc. :cigar:

Check out the poll, vote, and/or post pics/discuss - Bonus tickets in the prize draw for smoking a Partagas (or something you prefer over a Partagas) over the weekend, posting pics, comments, etc.

All participants (votes &/or posts) go into the draw for a bundle (25) of Nudies Queen Corona! :spotlight:

Poll closes midnight Monday (Bris time) - Draw done Tues morning 10th June.

Have fun with it and have a great weekend!!

Not my most fancied Cuban brand, but ranks highly in my esteem. There’s a reason books have been dedicated to that brand alone! And still, Partagás resembling that very marca I am probably smoking most of on a regular/daily basis. Which is - apart from the daily drivers Mille Fleurs (always great from the fiver), Aristocrats and Shorts (with a special shoutout to the Capitols/Linea Retro!) - through the small-cigar offerings, Chicos and Puritos. Most favoured however: 8-9-8, and then E2, D4/5. Flagship format for me is the Salomones more than the Lusitanias, though smoking those very, very rarely (when it comes to Prominentes I am more of a Punch / RA / SLR bloke).

Edit: forgot mentioning - Serie du Connaisseur, when they were still in production, ranking even before the 8-9-8 of course (still keeping a small stash), but those always came with a markup on pricing.

More of a fill in the blanks brand for me although I really enjoy E2 and P2. I’m indifferent compared to the brands I prefer. I don’t dislike them but I don’t love them as a whole either.

Partagas D4, second best cigar behind a BBF. Can’t get enough of the boldness and spice. No need to refine a Partagas, enjoy it for what it is.

I wish I had more storage space for aging, then I can have more Partagas. Series D is the only line I can smoke fresh. A revered marca, not the most versatile, not for the novice.

If I could only have 10 types of cigars, the Lusi and 8-9-8 would be two of them. Like the D4, like the P2, but there are many others in those vitolas that I prefer.

I'm generally a fan of Partagas. Lusi are, imo, the best DC in that habanos lineup. The photo below is what's left of the last one I smoked; it's not unusual for me to take em to the nub.

P2s and E2s are also some extremely good examples of the marcas, I have both and would likely even restock them when the time comes. Enough good things have already been said about the 898s as well. The one vitola that I'm still not really fond of however is the D4s...alas I will keep trying.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 era in early 2020, I believe Partagas to be the best marca overall in terms of quality, based on the cigars I've smoked since that time.

If I walked into a shop and they only had one of every #2/figurado from every marca, I would chose the Partagas every time.

<Edit> Except the second time, ‘cause I’d already have smoked the 1st one… 🤔

Agree with several comments above. Love the Lusi, P2, E2 (in that order). I'll pass on the rest.

Love 'em. Have had many in the lineup. Lusis are possibly my #1. From the D4 to the P2s and down to the shorts and aristocrats. To me the blends represent Cuban tobacco. Floral and cream with a heavy twang and always great smoke output. Love 'em.

Not my favourite marca. But I love the more unique expressions of the blend. i.e. Presidentes, 898s. E2 etc.

I think they should get rid of the D5 and replace it with and E6, a full bodied corona gorda with the 898 blend. To me, it is the starkest omission in the whole habanos portfolio.

The JL1, MAG 46. both powerhouse cigars. With the 898's MIA for the majority of time, and 'E6' with a bit of ligero grunt would be most welcome.

Love Partagas. An aged D4 got me into the CC game. Big favorites include the E2 and D4. Still waiting on the P2s to shine as others have said it does. Been surprised with the D5 on occasion. I’ve stored away a handful of D6s to see how they show up. I’m quite appreciative of the marca’s consistency and breadth.

Is anyone else a Chicos fan?

it once was but they discontinued most of my favorites

This is so true, sadly! I think Partagás needs a regular (quality-) cigar in Coronas format. Like 99call suggests. For me personally it doesn’t need to be “gorda” even. I’d be quite happy with a broadening of the range (back) towards the more slender side.

The Capitols fill/ed ( - will they ever be produced again?!) a gap for me somehow in that regard with offering a quality Mareva, even if initially going along with a certain roughness, not only of the wrapper, at times (they are coming around nicely). I’d say, sack the rattly packaging, pick a decent wrapper, make it a Corona, Corona Gorda, Corona Grande, or - or even better - “and” a Panetela, and just give us some fine SLB-offerings as a regular production! And get rid of the redundancy of all those former machine-made PC/Coronas formats.

😄. The name for that format following that Series nomenclature has been assigned already with D3. A Serie D No. 3 had been done a few times already as EL and a Coronas Gordas in the Anejados release.

Noted, but I'm talking about a generally available cigar. Standard production for the everyday CC smoker. Also, I've never had a D3, out of interest were they a strong robust cigar? Or similar to a D4 E2?

Got that, I was only addressing the Series naming, which is reserved already with “D3” for the CG (had amended my post before you replied).

As for the profile, I have not had one of the EL Coronas Gordas so far (or at least I can’t recall), but the Anejados I would qualify as a full-bodied cigar. (Edit: certainly one of the better ‘Anejados’ together with the Upmann one.)

That's good to hear. At least they had the right idea.

It seems crazy to me, that Partagas rightly or wrongly is often referred to as a medium to full, yet nearly all their cigars barring the 898 (and maybe the D6) are actually medium and under. They need at least one cigar (that's actually available) that can shake you to your boots, and to me the corona gorda it the right vehicle.

Unleash the E6!!!...erm...I mean D3!...again.
