MoeFOH Posted Tuesday at 11:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:27 PM Midweek Shootout Poll - where we randomly pit two Cuban sticks against one another to see which comes out on top. VR Famoso took down the PLPC last week... Interesting match-up again this week... one that I suspect in years gone by might have been a slam dunk for one of the combatants, maybe still is... let's see. If you've had one and not the other or have had neither, give us your answer and discussion based on your experience and/or the allure/desire/interest in these combatants. Read the scenario, vote in the poll, discuss below if you wish . 4
Hammer Smokin' Posted Tuesday at 11:29 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:29 PM While globally the CORO would destroy in this category, I suspect with FOH members, this will go the opposite way. The D4 is probably the most celebrated cigar around these parts. 3
Popular Post MagicalBikeRide Posted Tuesday at 11:35 PM Popular Post Posted Tuesday at 11:35 PM Put price aside and CoRo is king. If I were to list out the top ten cigar experiences of my life, I’d guesstimate that CoRo would be at least four of five of them. It has so much potential to be a worldie. If we take price into account, then sales figures / volume probably speak for themselves. And the D4 comes out ahead. 9
Chibearsv Posted Tuesday at 11:36 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:36 PM It’s nearly 3 D4s vs 1 Coro. They’re both good not great cigars for me, so I’ll take the value. 4
Popular Post Lucas Buck Posted Wednesday at 12:10 AM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 12:10 AM CoRo and it’s not close! PSD4 just doesn’t do it for me. I’ve smoked a hundred of them and the only one that I loved was from the 80’s. CoRos are one of my favorites and very rarely let me down with at least 8-10 years of age on them. 8
Havanaaddict Posted Wednesday at 01:11 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:11 AM I like them both, but COROs are the king in my humidor 🤩 4
Ford2112 Posted Wednesday at 04:44 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:44 AM I pick CoRo, but I voted D4. I just won't park coin on Cohiba anymore. They are no more consistent across the marques imo. I do prefer the profile of a CoRo to a D4. But I find more value in the D4. 4
loose_axle Posted Wednesday at 06:37 AM Posted Wednesday at 06:37 AM I went the D4 as I've had a fair few and love them but only one Cohiba Robusto and that was quite lacklustre. Or rather lemongrass in a cigar doesn't do much for me. It was young and reminded me of a Vegueros Tapados. 2
Popular Post Mike Mecklenburg Posted Wednesday at 11:44 AM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 11:44 AM If I was your guest and you offered me either a CoRo or a PSD4, I would choose the CoRo. If I was in a store on vacation and wanted to buy one cigar and they had only a CoRo or PSD4, I would buy the CoRo. If I was to buy a box, I would buy the PSD4. 6
Hammer Smokin' Posted Wednesday at 12:22 PM Posted Wednesday at 12:22 PM A great example of the vocal minority. I thought D4 would have won, with a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio. But it appears not so. 4
chasy Posted Wednesday at 12:32 PM Posted Wednesday at 12:32 PM If I’m offered 3 boxes of D4 or 1 box of CoRo. I go with the D4. That said, if one to one, CoRo all day long. My best cigar of the last three years was a CoRo and it isn’t even close. 4
Capn_Jackson Posted Wednesday at 01:06 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:06 PM I want you to know that this question is causing me internal stress @MoeFOH. Having to think way too hard! My answers, as usual, are wordy. Apologies once again. If price is a factor, and you didn’t specify that it isn’t, I’m going PD4. If age is a factor, meaning if we’re talking only a couple years old or so, I’m going PD4. If price is NOT a factor, and we’re talking sticks with any real amount of age, I’m going CoRo with 7+ years on ‘em. I’ve had plenty of both sticks, at different stations in their aging life, and those CoRo that are 6-10 years old are just exquisite. PD4 I can enjoy younger, however the crusty PD4’s I’ve had were glorious too, just not up there with crusty CoRo’s. Both offer a distinctive mouthfeel, and an excellent finish. Very different palate and retrohale notes, and both excellent. Other factors: If I’ve just had a big meal, PD4. If I’ve just had a meal with any amount of spicy kick, PD4. If I’m having any bourbon or rum with it, PD4. Barring those factors, CoRo it is. Preferably pre-2016. 4
Ruggerpgh99 Posted Wednesday at 01:19 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:19 PM I have only had one of each, and the CoRo blew the PSD4 out of the water, and it wasn't even close. I will save up for a box of CoRo one of these days, not worried about having the PSD4 around. 4
Popular Post Puros Y Vino Posted Wednesday at 01:22 PM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 01:22 PM I've had many PSD4's and CoRo's. I have some 2010 CoRo's that have been great. But TBH, the PSD4's from any year I've smoked have been better. Even if the prices were pre-gouge era. I'd spend my money on PSD4 over CoRo. Now, if we're talking Esplendido and Lancero? Different story! 😁 5
Popular Post JohnS Posted Wednesday at 01:32 PM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 01:32 PM My heart says Cohiba Robustos but my head says Partagas Serie D No.4. Taking into account that the original question says, "in today's cigar world, which one are you going for?" I would choose the Partagas Serie D No. 4 for the following reasons: It has been my most consistently flavoursome cigar since the beginning of the 2020. It's a lot more affordable than a box of Cohiba Robustos. I'm much more likely to replace my current boxes of Partagas Serie D No.4s. I'm most unlikely to replace my current box of Cohiba Robustos. 9
joeypots Posted Wednesday at 05:57 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:57 PM Sad to say but IMHO it depends on the box, less on Marca, and even less on age. All things being equal? CORO. Am I buying Cohiba? NO. Am I buying D4s? Always a possibility. And, unless you have had a first class CORO a good PSD#4, like those that’ll show up on 24/24, could be a fantastic cigar experience for just under 25$. 2
Connoisseur Kim Posted yesterday at 07:30 AM Posted yesterday at 07:30 AM Although both of them are one of my favourite Cuban Robustos (as well as RASS and JL2), I'd pick PSD4 over CORO since while CORO tastes really great, I prefer classic long and skinny Cohibas like CCE (more intensed Cohiba Linea Clasica experience). Also, I find PSD4 is surprisingly great and flavoursome as CORO but with better affordability, much like RASS and JL2. 2
gormag38 Posted yesterday at 12:56 PM Posted yesterday at 12:56 PM CoRo for me and it's not all that close. I can't seem to get on the D4 bandwagon; maybe I need to dig out my box again. CoRo on the other hand is right up my alley. Of course the pricing is ridiculous, but I'll splurge on some packs here and there to keep them in my humi after my stash is gone. 2
Popular Post SigmundChurchill Posted 13 hours ago Popular Post Posted 13 hours ago Like many here, when price is considered, D4 gives the most bang for the buck. IMHO is it the best cigar for the money, period. But when price is not a factor, CoRo all day, every day. 5
