BlueRidgeFly Posted May 17 Posted May 17 SUV or anything “practical” - Toyota. Our last seven vehicles have been. Tacoma, RAV4, Prius… zero problems with any of them in the first 200k miles at least (applicable to three of them). My next car is going to be a well used and impractical gen 1 Cayman. 4
Cigarsmoker81 Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Midsize I would say q5 or genesis gv70. Full size defender/x5/Range Rover. 2

I like a SUV for the reason that they are great for a weekend away and that my elderly parents can just "slide in" as opposed to "jumping up" in the 4x4 or "folding down" into the merc. Your recommendations for a mid sized SUV/performance oriented. Functional, stylish and something you look forward to driving Out of interest, what are you thinking will be your next car? For a performance based SUV I would look into a Porsche Macan, BMW X3M (shares engine with the M3), BMW X5 40i M sport. I avoid BMW V8 engines due to the insanely complicated maintenance. (Except the E9x M3 V8, we love that one lol). Maybe the BMW X5 40i pug in hybrid if you want to toot around town in electric mode but still like the ass and range of an internal combustion engine. 1
El Presidente Posted May 22 Author Posted May 22 Porsche Macan GTS or Maserati Grecale Trofeo? I only have two cars left in me and neither are likely going to be electric 1

I only have two cars left in me and neither are likely going to be electric Porsche is an easier ownership experience, but I would drive both and let your heart decide. You mentioned your elderly parents being a concern for the back seat. Consider that when looking at both. I have a hunch neither are that great in this regard. If your parents' ingress/egress is a primary concern, have you considered an estate instead? Mercedes and Volvo make great ones.Similar storage, easier getting in & out of, and better driving dynamics. Not to mention they hold their value quite well. 1

If I were to put the thumb on the scale in regard to parental comfort, it would be the Genesis QV70 2025. For me it delivers 90% of what I need at 60% of the price of the other two. 5

avaldes Posted May 22 Posted May 22 We bought a new Mercedes GLE 350 last November with the AMG goodies. It has been a wonderful car to drive. The 450 was too heavy with all the hybrid equipment. This was mostly due to my wife's bad back and our E class giving her fits. The SUV is very comfortable and still fun to drive. Of the two cars above, Porsche for sure. 1

Wookie Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I have a Cayenne Turbo 2021, which I got for an insanely good price with 7k miles on it at the time. It is entirely overkill for the price. I think the Cayenne S would be plenty for you and a much better price. Regular Cayenne doesn’t have any punch. Have had a bunch of range rovers but I don’t trust them maintenance-wise. X5 BMW V8 is also a nice choice. Toyota SUVs are the best of all…low cost and dependable. 1
