I think everyone in your family & friends circle would benefit from you getting a Lexus LC 500. Very practical, unbeatable Lexus build quality, etc. There's really no down side.  It'd be my n

Just put my first 100 kms on it yesterday after having the PPF treatment completed. Engine break-in stage. Can’t wait for it to be completed as this thing wants to be let loose.

A Toyota Land Cruiser seems practical and reliable, a Range Rover is another option. Ferrari came out with Purosangue. Seems like a bargain at 500K USD?

2020 Ford Explorer ST

I haven't driven anything with the 3.0 tt v6, but preceding 2.7 tt v6 was a stout performer for sure. If only the steering was more crisp.

I'm not an SUV guy, I prefer 2 door coupes. As much as I like ICE cars, my next will most likely be an EV.

If price is not an option, Lotus Eletre. Blistering speed, even Di will think twice about mashing her foot down on the pedal. If you get the R model, pay the extra for the carbon ceramic brakes. A Porsche Macan 4S if you feel like spending a little less, but still want to be pushed back into your seat when taking off.

If you want to spend under AUD150k, an Audi SQ6 e-tron or a budget friendly Polestar 4.

The Eletre is DOA for the US. A few people had deposits on them, but the adjusted tariff price makes it not a viable car.

I love the design, especially on the inside. I'm a Lotus fan, former owner and current shareholder. Their sole focus on electric cars is a mistake (beyond the Emira).

Is Lucid sold in Australia?

Not much room in Purosangue compared to Urus or DBX 707. DBX has the most utility out of the sports car SUVs.

For the NHL fans out there, they showed Evander Kane pulling up to Rogers Place Arena driving the new Ferrari Purosangue.

I am a Porsche and Toyota guy...previously owned Cayenne and 4Runner models. I like the looks of the Porsche Macan and would be leaning towards that if I were in the market.

I really want a Range Rover Sport, but I will probably have to settle for a Toyota 4 Runner.

Actually just bought a 2025 Chevy Trax. I'll drive it for 6-12 months, hand it off to my daughter when she gets her permit, and then buy another one for the next kid up. They're safe, dependable, and cheap enough.

Now as far as the next car for *me*... I've currently got a 1973 MGB convertible that I love but I'm looking at trading/selling because I think I'd be more comfortable with a similar vintage Jeep CJ as my "play" car. Getting down into a tiny British convertible isn't fun for me with some of my back and knee issues. I've lost a lot of weight which has alleviated most of those, but the low ride of the MG is a little less fun than it was previously.

Toyota is my favorite car company. I think their engineering and ergonomics are fantastic. I have a Honda Ridgeline because Toyota Tacomas  don’t have the ride the Honda does. I’ve had Toyota SUVs and I suspect that if one is looking for performance the Toyota line up is more geared to utility. Lexus is another matter. Around here the BMW is crazy popular and a small one with a B58 engine will probably satisfy the performance requirement.

Porsche Cayenne, Yes please.

Porsche Macan? Maybe, but I’m not up to date with the engines. The 3 liter Turbo my buddy had was pretty f#$%^&g nice.

I ran a dealership for 7 years, so I had the pleasure of driving pretty much everything out there. I will give you two answers. For the affordable side, I would go with a loaded Kia Sportage or Hyundai Tucson.  They have the best warranty, incredible technology, and are very reliable.

If you are looking at luxury SUVs, I would shy away from owning a German car as they are awful when it comes to maintenance and parts. Lexus, while not my favorite in looks, are very reliable and have a great warranty. Genesis GV70 is probably my number one pick for overall best SUV, what a great car and a great deal.

I know SUV drivers take a lot of s**t for needing a "truck" to get groceries, and for the most part, that s**t is valid. But seeing "SUVs" listed that don't even have 2,000lbs towing capacity, which my old chevi lumina car had...is friggin' scary. But I guess you don't need towing capacity to look cool getting groceries.

Nope. Only LHD, so not destined for Aus.

Loved my 2022 Porsche Macan S but I needed something with three rows. Wanted something that still had an engaging drive which for a 3 row SUV isn’t so easy to find. Ended up with a 2025 Mazda CX-90 GT-P and so far love it. Rear wheel based all wheel drive and a 340HP inline 6 with Toyota’s mild hybrid system so surprisingly good fuel economy for something so big. Interesting that although it is only 1 inch longer than the Honda Pilot, the wheel based on the Mazda is 12 inches longer.

Absolutely love my Explorer ST. Tons of power, great looks, 3 rows although I keep the back folded down. I put 35K miles a year in her and she’s fast as s**t.

The ride is a little firm but it handles like a sports car.

35K in one year?

Love my 2021 Tacoma. Hauls our small camping trailer just fine, have put moose, elk or deer in the back after successful hunting trips and carries my fishing kayak and gear no problem. Fine vehicle for city driving  as well.  At this point i can see me driving Tacoma's for another 20 years.

Yeah, it’s my sales vehicle at work, they pay for about half of it. 52 miles per day just in commuting. I’ve also done multiple trips from Chicago to GA and FL as well as Minnesota. Heading out for camping and fly fishing early tomorrow morning. Great vehicle and family hauler.

Our recent family car was a model Y since I live in a city where charging is easily available all around me. I cannot thank Tesla's durability well enough after we were rear ended by a truck going 60kmph while stopped at a red light, fortunately our entire family including babies in the back seat came out with no injuries. So yup 10/10 would recommend that one. Alternatively I heard the BYD Sealion 7 is available now...which is a newer gen car.

Time has come to changeover our SUV.

I like a SUV for the reason that they are great for a weekend away and that my elderly parents can just "slide in" as opposed to "jumping up" in the 4x4 or "folding down" into the merc.

Your recommendations for a mid sized SUV/performance oriented.  Functional, stylish and something you look forward to driving

Seeking out justification for your new desire???  Just go get the Wagon already!  Although I must say, I love our Yukon AT4. Has all the bells and whistles, is a monster off the hard stuff, and my aging parents get in and out of it just fine.

We have two Rivian R1S’s. Not practical for Oz, but great cars. I am not a tech guy but the amount of technology in them is pretty awesome and it is always nice to be able accelerate as fast and quietly as EVs can. I like the new Toyota Landcruiser/Lexus counterpart. Love the Range but spending $150K on an SUV just doesn’t compute for me.

Not sure. We have a ten year old Toyota minivan we use mainly for hauling the dogs around. It does not get much mileage and is in reasonable shape. Also a 2024 RAV4 XLE that we like very much. Contemplating a new minivan but the not sure it is worth it at this point. Heh.
