What other marcas to try

Currently I have:

Cohiba Siglo 1 and 3

Montecristo 5 and PE

Partagas MF

Trinidad Reyes

JLP Breva

I'm looking to try different CC marcas that will give that feeling of “I get the CC hype”. Which other marcas should I try if anything and which specific cigar in the marca should I select? I ask because my budget for a few years could be very small so I’m looking for singles or triple of each particular cigar. If you think I have pretty much have the flavors covered with what I already have, let me know. Thanks all for your information and for a great forum.

I don't see any Bolivar on that list. I'd go for the RC or BBF.  For something really outside of the box, maybe a SCdLH Fuerza.

Of the cigars you've listed, do any of them deliver what you're looking for; or are you asking because you have yet to "get the CC hype"?  What are the NCs that you really enjoy?

If I were you, I'd forget about Cohiba and Trinidad except for those I already have and go for BBF, BRC, Mag 46, Mag 50, Punch Punch, Monte 1, Epi 2, Epi Especial.

If your budget is very, very small, I would even suggest to forget about Montecristo.

I can't get enough Bolivar. In addition to the RC and BBF, Petit Coronas and Coronas Juniors can scratch that Bolivar itch in a smaller size.

Get a box of Partagas Shorts. Lay them down for a year. Boli PCs are another that has delivered pretty consistently. I’ve been on an H Upmann kick as of late. The Half Corona is within my budget, but if you’re looking for singles the Mag 46 and #2 are both great. If you have the patience, lay down some Monte #1 & #2’s for 3 years. You will then have the answer you seek. 😀

Whilst you already have two from the marca, for me, there’s something about a Montecristo No 2 that screams “I am Cuban tobacco”. You can pick up 3 packs from time to time on 24:24. Well worth a shot.

Got to recommend Partagas Serie D#4. Solid smoke. Full body. Hits all the notes. Smokes well early and better with age. Plus on 24:24 all the time. Killed me to not pick up three boxes of 10 the other day.

Something I and many members here love are the RASS. Very unique flavor profile screams CC. Choix Supreme also have a flavor that's unique and very approachable.

Definitely this, especially considering the price-value point. Ramon Allones and El Rey del Mundo, they don't require too long of resting time to shine.

Yes, to others, feel like more indie is truly needed to answer that question effectively, especially with the prices concerned.

For the greatest value and taste I recommend Por Larranaga Petit Corona, Bolivar Petit Corona and Ramon Allones Specially Selected.

Check out the San Cristobal El Principe while you are at it! It might be difficult to snag a quarter box on 24:24 but if you can get a single or two at your local B&M or while traveling, I highly recommend.

I agree. I just took your question to assume you were asking for recommendations on ones that you were not ready to jump into a full box yet.

Upmann has so many classics: Mag 46, 50, 54, Sir Winnie, Connie A, B , 1 ,2, and No. 2. No more palatable line for me than this one.

Just getting back to answering, no, I haven’t found what I’m looking for yet. New to CC so I don’t get it but want to try and find what it is to decide. I’m not sure if I’m missing anything because of the particular cigars I chose from the Marcia or if they are too young. The Siglo 1 and 3 are from 2022 and 2019. I haven’t tried the 2019 Siglo 3 yet. The Siglo 1 I thought I was getting it but just not sure. For NC, I. Like Ashton cabinet Connecticut, Aladino classic, Southern Draw Rose of Sharon, 1 year rested Perdomo 20th and 10th Connecticut, AF Hemingway, Diamond Crown Classic, LADC and AJ New World Connecticut for lighter cigars. For darker bolder I like Olivia Serie V natural (just tried the v and loved it), Padron 1964 Maduro Principe, AJ New World Maduro, Liga Privada 9, LADC Mi Amore, DTT black and Mi Qrita.

How is the D4 different from the Mille Fleurs? 

I tried a Trinidad Reyes yesterday from may 2024. Maybe it is still young but I got a lot of what I’d call grapefruit taste from it. Every once in a while I’d get a fleeting hint of grass. I liked the grass but it was just teasing.

Got it. I think I can answer your question now. It's very possible that you won't "get it" for Cuban cigars. I don't mean that as a negative of any kind. I've had several of the NCs that you've listed and generally find that they all are very full in flavor both in lighter and darker varieties. CCs for me are usually medium in flavor or slightly above or below that mark. Maybe not so ironically, the Siglo I for is fuller in flavor for me than the others. It's very possible that you just really enjoy a full flavored, well constructed cigar, and there's nothing wrong with that. I also enjoy the Padron 1964 Maduro Principe but I certainly agree that it's nothing like a CC. I don't mean that to say it's not as good, it absolutely is a very good cigar, it just doesn't have many similarities to a CC. I'd say to give Bolivar Petit Corona a try. It's about the fullest flavored CC I can think of. Good luck on the quest. Cheers.

Punch Punch and Partagas PSD#4 are two fantastic Cuban cigars that  smoke great fresh and will age nicely. They are in the moderate Cuban price range, if there is such a thing  these days. What ever you buy, let them rest in a humidor/coolerdor for 1-3 months at about 62% RH. Acclimation to a lower RH than what a lots of new world cigars smoke well at is key for the Cuban cigars experience.

Yep, I haven't had a Macanudo since my first Monte 2 in the late 80s or early 90s.  I think it's amazing how many of us had Monte 2 as their first CC.
