El Presidente Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 Background _______________________________________________________________________________ This was a deck discussion hypothesising a cigar Olympic finals in 4 categories. Yes, We cover all the big issues on the deck There are four races/categories. Petit Corona Robusto Piramide Double Robusto CC and NC are competing for the Gold in each category. As a group we are to work together to nominate 4 cigars in each category. 4 CC and 4 NC. Today we are doing Robusto Which will be the 4 cigars representing Cuba. Which will be the 4 cigars representing FWC (free world cigars). Part Two: Robusto only today. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ You would think that Cuba would run away with this one. However perhaps that is bias? Can NC/FWC provide a legitimate challenge in this weight class? Who lines up on both teams? Ideally, at the end of this process, we will put some samplers together for an end of year taste off. 1
Shawn4212 Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 CC - So many great Robustos. RASS had always been one of my favorite cigars. Also my first Cuban box purchase yrs ago, so I will go with that, but it's a tough decision. CORO, JL2, EPi 2 round out my 4. FWC - Original Padron 2000. Not fancy, not expensive, but a pretty darn good (and very consistent) cigar. I'm not sure I can think of 3 more I really like. Lol
westg Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 So tough this one for 4th spot Cohiba all day long Juan Lopez Epi 2 D4 I would love to put in Choix Supreme. For me it has only been the last few years that have completely changed for the better.
rascalmonkey Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 thanks to the Prez's repeated recommendation I've added HdM Epi 2's to my robusto rotation 😁
Chibearsv Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Connie 2, CORO, RASS, D4 Trinity is a must on the NC list for me
vvvendo1969 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 CC #1 Vegas Robaina Famosos #2 Ramon Allones Specially Selected #3 San Luis Rey Regios #4 El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme FWC #1 My Father No.1 #2 Graycliff Crystal PG Robusto 1
HoyoFan Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Let me throw in a few FWC’s:1. Padron 2000 Maduro2. Fuente Hemingway 3. Illusione Epernay le ferme4. Aladino Maduro box pressed robusto
Lt4-396 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 CC - Price is no factor : CoRo CC - Realistically : Either BRC or Ex#4 NC - Padron Exclusivo Maduro or Warped MdT This was really tough. Every single marca has a fantastic stand out robusto. Connie #1, ERDM CS, Regios, Short Churchill, Famosos, La Fuerza, RASS, QD#50, P SdP, PSD#4 and the list just keeps going especially when considering sizes just outside the typical robusto size like the Connie #2/A, Media Luna etc. 1
Ford2112 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Gosh . I don't buy a lot of robustos per se. I would have to put at the top of CC: JL2 Epi 2 Coro D4 NC: MohFoe Trinity That's about it!! 3
Thirds Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Cuban: Juan Lopez #2 Bolivar Royal Corona VR Famosos Partagas D4 (Leaving out CoRo stings, but it is what it is) Non-Cuban: Illusione Epernay Le Ferme CLE 25th Anniversary Stolen Throne Crook of the Crown Padron 1926 #47 NC easier to narrow down for me and has fewer “stand outs” compared to CC. 3
Li Bai Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Well RASS, Epi 2 and Bolivar RC for me as CC. Not enough NC smoked to have a say... 1
MagicalBikeRide Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Some of the best cigar experiences in my life have been with a CoRo in hand. Can’t afford / justify it now, but I’ll never forget the magic they made me feel. 2
btort910 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 CC: Connie 1, JL2, D4, CoRo NC: Epernay, Don Carlos, Crowned Heads Le Careme, Caldwell Eastern Standard 1
joeypots Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Cuba: Coro, RASS, PSD#4, JL #2. I’m not considering the Hermoso #4 vitola which is often confused with the Robusto. My pet peeve? Though very similar, they are not the same vitola. One is a Robusto and the other is, well, a Hermoso #4. I’m done, I won’t bring this up again for another year. New World? It’s been a long time. 1
gormag38 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Cuban: CoRo, Epi2, BRC, JL2 NC: Honestly not enough under my belt to make an opinion one way or another. 1
Mr. DD Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Cuban: BRC, JL2, RASS, D4 FW: Liga Privada #9 robusto, Atabey Brujos, MOFOH Trinity (edit), Paul Garmirian Symphony 20 robusto. The Trinity is pretty damn good! 😊
Namisgr11 Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 FWC: Fuente Don Carlos Aniversario; Fuente OpusX Angel's Share (good luck finding the latter one today) CC: HdM Epi2 PD4 EDM Choix Sup PL Galanes
charx Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 NC: Paul Garmirian Symphony, Padron 1964 natural, Casdagli Daughters of the Wind Pony, Alfonso Anejo CC: RASS, D5, JL2, BRC 1
TMan1 Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 CC: Bolivar Royal Corona RASS PSD4 CoRo NC: Olmec Claro Padron 90 Natural Olmec Maduro Padron Family Reserve 85 year That was easier than I thought! Lol!
Thirds Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 6 hours ago, Mr. DD said: Paul Garmirian Symphony 20 robusto. Good call. 👍🏽 1
DeeBeezy Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 Cuban: BRC, CORO, JL2, VR Famoso new world: casdagli brave, davidoff yamasa, Ashton esg, padron family reserve 50th natural
RDB Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 I can only offer Cuban contenders: - Coro - PSD4 - Regios - Choix Supreme
Mr. DD Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 I believe a separate Hermoso No.4 team will be needed. 😉. I guess I’m a vitola snob or something.
hrs1 Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 CC: -CoRo -PSD4 -RASS -PSdP Don't smoke many FWC robustos, but do enjoy a Padron 2000 .... Time to try the Trinity
