Segway from another thread ;)

How many members here have actually seen a movie at a drive-in?

My mum (86 now) and dad (90 now) religiously took us to the drive in.  Mum would fry up chicken and off we would go to Keperra or Aspley which were our closest. We would buy Cornetto icecreams and hot chips at the drive-in and watch the 2 movies on show. I must have been 6-7 years of age at my first. My dad was a huge lover of the Bud Spencer and Terence Hill Italian genre...and it seems in retrospect that every three weeks (at least) we would treck out in the Holden Kingswood V8 to the drive-in for a night out. I loved it :D

Turned into teens and I inherited that Kingswood as my first car (disaster but another story). I could pile two mates from the rugby team in the boot, three in the back and a passenger ....and off we would go. Once at the Drive-in, the boot would open, two would jump out and watch the movies from the kiosk. We could bring our own beers/rum. Dusk to dawn. Cheap dating.  Who else misses the 80's? :rotfl:

I can't recall when it stopped?  I am quite sure that my kids (maybe Ben made one or two?) have never been. There are none left in our city today (to my knowledge).

Would it be fair to say that you are growing old if you have been to a Drive-in? Favourite movies at a Drive in?  :D

Great times :spotlight:

Only on vacation, there was no drive in in my hometown (would a no ceiling movie theater with seats qualify? We had that).

But on vacation whether in Mexico City or Guadalajara Mexico, we would go to the drive in. Unfortunately, my dad was not known to have a good eye for movie selection, so I don't remember any of the movies we saw

When I was a kid my parents would take us to the drive in fairly regularly. Any time there was a new Pink Panther movie we’d see it at the drive in, other movies as well. As became a teen and had my own car I’d go with friend to all nighters with multiple movies (4). When my daughter was young we went to a few movies at the drive in but then it started to fade in popularity. There is still a drive in not too far from me and I know my now married daughter went a few times last summer. I’ll have to make a point of going next summer while it’s still around.

We did drive ins back in late 60s early 70s with family and then again when myself and friends got our DLs in 1980. Not sure if any are even around Kansas City anymore.

Yes, as a kid and teenager definitely. I vaguely remember people used to hide in the trunks of cars to "sneak" in 😄

Also, I remember being at the food court and seeing a grade D posted where the food was being served 😄 🤢

There actually is one still open near me too. The wife and I went there once or twice, but that was at least 20 years ago.

Good times 😄

We always had a couple people in the trunks and know we got busted a couple of times. I googled it and see there are two left in Kansas City metro area.

Its been a few years since I've been to one with the lady. They still have them in California and we'd go to them when I'd be in from Squid Seining. Throw a mattress in the back of the pickup and go watch a movie there were 3-4 screens going at once in different spots; it seemed like a big place. Was new to me but was cool and I felt like I was in the 70s-80s going back in time experiencing the history. Really cool a bunch of you had that growing up. I can't remember the films, nothing super memorable but just being there was, probably had to do w/ when I used to drink 😆they had there own food like hotdogs and typical movie food, but we'd just bring our own cooler of beers or my typical Pendleton Whiskey and water. Definitely want to go to one the next time I stop through California again.

Nothing like it. One of my favorite things to do as a kid. I loved the speaker hanging on the window. And the little intermission with the animated hot dog, popcorn and soda pop!

Parents took us to the drive in 3 or 4 times a year. Didn't really go as a teen or an adult. Best movie I've seen at the drive in - easy answer

I remember my parents taking us to the drive-in cinemas in the early 80s, before most of them were shut down and the land redeveloped. We still have the Skyline Drive-In Theatre in Blacktown. It is the last permanent drive-in left standing in Sydney. When we first moved to our place in Bella Vista, I remember you could actually see the screen from my study window, albeit it was just a tiny flickering dot in the distance.

As for those Terence Hill and Bud Spencer films @El Presidente, I was watching "They Call Me Trinity" the other night. Love the films they did together, I think there were about 20.

I saw Grease at a drive in back in the 70's with my parents. Wife and I took the kids to see Wonder Woman 1984 at a drive in a few years ago. Cool experience, terrible movie.

I was a teenager in the 90s and went to the drive-in a few times. We'd sneak in or would hide in the trunk of a buddy's car to not pay the $3-4 it cost to go in. That was all fun and games until we were t-boned driving into the drive-in. Yup, fond memories of those days.

For the life of me, I can't remember what movies were playing at the time. I guess, I wasn't really going for the movies back then. LOL

Where else better to watch at a Cape Cod drive in during the summer.

Seen this at a drive in with my parents in 1973. The Paul McCartney score was epic. I knew I would have a Rolex Submariner with a spinning bezel "saw", smoke Montecristo Especial cigars, and have the fastest boat on the whole damn river like "Billy Bob"!!🤣

😆 Saw this as a kid. My folks took us to see the Gong Show movie and this was the double feature.

Turning 49 this weekend and drive in's definitely take me back.

Lots of drive-in's in the 80s and some held on until the early 90s when I was dating and had my own car. I kind of miss it.
