El Presidente Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 From the hip: Your favourite holiday destination? You work hard or you may have retired but you have worked damn hard to get there. I am going to split this question into two different scenarios. Your favourite short trip 3-4 day long weekend break. Your favourite extended 5-10 day holiday destiantion break. Don't be broad (ie: Europe ).....if you had to spend that time in one locale. Only one! Tell us where (both options) and why
Popular Post Puros Y Vino Posted October 16, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 16, 2023 Short trip = Havana. Cigars, rum, friends. Anymore than 4 days it gets expensive. Extended = Italy. I'm fluent in the language. I have family in the North and South to visit. I'm enamored by the history, food and culture. Every stop is unique in its' own way. Enjoying a cigar here and there doesn't get anyone's nose in a twist. If I were to stick to one locale, it'd be Rome. In repeated trips I estimate I've spent about 2 weeks there. And that was not enough to see everything I wanted to see. 7
MagicalBikeRide Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Short Trip - Madrid, Spain Long Trip - Donegal, Ireland 1
Arabian Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 I feel like I’m gonna be in the minority that dislikes traveling and moving around. I enjoy settling in one place. Short trip, Bahrain a 30-min drive. I’m not sure if you consider that a trip. 1
Popular Post SigmundChurchill Posted October 16, 2023 Popular Post Posted October 16, 2023 Short trip: St. Barts Long trip: Vail, CO, (Maybe Aspen, it’s really a tie) Why? St Barts because you are on a Caribbean island like no other. There are other islands that are/were ruled by France, but this is only one where you really feel it. The workers are mostly from Paris, so you get amazing French/Hybrid French food, and service along with beaches that are second to none. Vail/Aspen because I love skiing. And I love that it is something the whole family can do together. My kids are at the age where they don’t want to hang out with their parents anymore, but if skiing is on the table, they will gladly suck it up and hang out with us for 8 hours a day. Plus, Vail/Aspen have some great restaurants and amazing shopping. And I get to dress like a cowboy without looking strange. 7 1
Popular Post El Presidente Posted October 17, 2023 Author Popular Post Posted October 17, 2023 Short trip: Hong Kong. Within 9hr reach of Oz. Cigar and foodie heaven. Nice wild side. 3-4 days is plenty Long trip: Cuba/Havana. It takes me 2 days to get there so I need to make it 8-10 days. The country/city has introduced me to some of the greatest mates I have today. 7
Bill Hayes Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 1. Port Douglas - reasonable flight up the coast of Australia to the tropics, warm weather, barrier reef diving and fishing and constant courtesy buses running into town where there is some nice restaurants and a craft beer bar overlooking the boat harbour. 2. Tokyo - not an arduous flight and similar time zone - so much happening and to see and do and eat and drink. And ramen! 2
riderpride Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Short - the Rockies for cliff diving, camping, hiking, skiing Long - Aitutaki or St Lucia depending on the time of year. Feb in Ait is nearly intolerable Cheers 1
BrightonCorgi Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Short Trip - Montreal. 5 hours away and much cooler and different than going to NYC. Beautiful drive until near the Canadian border then gets boring. Great restaurants and shopping. Long Trip - Israel. Wife said that has been the best vacation spot we've been to so far with a Singapore as a close 2nd. The vibe, people, beaches, and food are wonderful in Israel. 3
Tradesman Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Short trip: Tokyo. 7 hour flight and you’re immersed in all the best Japanese food. Plus just tons to do and see while you’re there. Did I mention there was good food? Long trip: Lake Como. Just left there a few days ago and already missing it. It’s serene and with a lot of old-world charm. And some of the best food I’ve had in Italy with family-run restaurants. Wake up go for a bike ride. Have espressos and croissants on the way. Come back have lunch and smoke cigars with a beautiful view of the lake. I could easily spend 2 weeks there and feel fully recharged. 2
Corylax18 Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Short Trip: One of many places in the Rocky Mountains, a 2-4 hour drive can get you to some very cool and very remote places. Long Trip: Cuba, 7, 10 even 15 days. Havana is amazing, but people really sleep on the other great places in the country. From the eastern tip to to the western tip there tons of diverse and amazing places to visit. 1
BigGuns Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Short trip - Mammoth (Winter), Guadalajara (Spring/Summer), Vegas (anytime) Long Trip: Greece. A couple days in Athens and then whichever combo of island hopping we have in store that time... 3
Chibearsv Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Short trip - Saratoga in the summer. Tons to do in the area, good eats, beautiful lakes, friendly towns, and the best horse racing in the country. Long trip - Maui. Beaches, mountains, rain forests, golf courses, easy travel to visit other islands and no better place to do nothing at all. What happened in Lahaina was terrible and sad. I’m looking forward to seeing how they literally rise from the ashes and I’m confident that town will. 3
Boxer31 Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Short trip 5-7 days Grand Cayman or lake upstate NY 2+ weeks Italy Tuscany/Sorrento/Rome 2
Chucko8 Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Short Trip : Danang. Food, relaxing, lovely people and clean beach for Asia. Long Trip: Byron Bay. Beaches, beer, mountains, food and people watching. I just park the car up and hit relaxo mode here. Everything is walking distance from where we stay and I just feel at ease. It's exactly what I lust for from a holiday. 3

jakebarnes Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Long trip: Port Douglas, ideally with a stay at Silky Oaks Lodge for part of it. Shorter: Paris or Hilton head sort of for the same reason--I'm really able to turn off in both. Golf and beach for HH, cafes in quiet neighborhoods in Paris. 1
