For Rob, John, Smithy and me

Last weekend in Miami, my wife opened us up to some good natured ribbing from the Aussie contingent when she mentioned that since I was going to be working thru Memorial Day weekend she had accepted an invitation from her childhood friend Robert to split a hotel room and go see Paul McCartney Saturday night. I’ve known Robert for better than 25 years and when I say he poses no threat to my perceived manhood, take me at my word. 🙂 I think that the only issue I had was that I had to work all weekend and with the exception of @JohnS, there isn’t anyone I can think of that deserves to see Lord Paul on what will likely be his final tour than me.

The texts began early Friday afternoon with Debbie telling me that ever since Robert has found a new girlfriend, he has become insufferable, complaining about Debbie having a couple of rum and Cokes, stepping out to smoke an occasional cigarette, etc. With some difficulty she managed to book her own room for Saturday night. She managed to ditch him at the show, just so she could bask in the glow of HRH Paul. Said the show was great!

Debbie got up early Sunday and was back in Jacksonville by 7:30 a.m. When she came in she said that she wasn’t feeling too well and she had a voice that should have been singing “Bette Davis Eyes.” Scratchy throat, dry cough... Yep, you know where this is headed. 😳 About this time, Robert calls, not to apologize for being a Biggus Dickus, but to let her know that he wasn’t feeling well either and his girlfriend back in Minneapolis informed him that she tested positive for COVID. 😡

I break out the test kits that the government sent to those of us that asked and low and behold she tests positive. 😡😡😡

Always a man with a plan, I make Debbie a bowl of chicken soup and head out to the local package store to pick up an emergency bottle of Zacapa XO. If I am going to get stuck in the house for a week, I’m doing the self-medication in style! Alas, Becky behind the counter says that they’re out of the XO. I bought the last bottle a week and a half ago... (inside joke😀) I’ll have to settle for the 23 🙄

Sunday was an R&J Churchill, last night was a Fundadores. Going to burn some finer sticks, while I still have a sense of taste... 😔 My throat started feeling a little scratchy this afternoon. A Monte #1 is in my very near future. Debbie believes that the weekend ended a 50 year friendship. If I get COVID out of this deal, I will strongly support her decision.

3.  Fact:  Platonic relationships of a non biologically related male and woman (unless one plays a banjo) in a hotel room has never been recorded in human history.  I can only assume that Robert is secretly gay.

To be fair, looking at my mates. The only difference between a "new girlfriend' and an "ex girlfriend" is time.

Might have written that poorly. He was complaining about Debbie having a couple of toddies, not his wonderful new girlfriend and her virtues (other than being nicknamed “COVID Katie” by yours truly...)

So, Becky, always attentive ordered me a Zacapa XO and called me to say she had it in hand! Since I had to “social distance”, she wore her mask and brought it to me! Becky and @WarriorPrincess have one thing in common. They both have my credit card #!!!! 😀
