Popular Post Ken Gargett Posted February 13, 2022 Popular Post Posted February 13, 2022 i don't mean to eat, of course. some time ago, someone told me that if you plant the top of the pineapple when you chop it off that you will grow another. must confess that seemed a little unlikely to me but it made a nice pot plant. then all of a sudden... the downside is that it takes 2-3 years to appear and will take another 6 months to become a full sized pineapple and then it dies, but it is all a bit cool. i will confess i thought that they meant another pineapple would grow under the old top, not out of it, but one learns something every day. at the moment, it is only 2-3 inches in total. 22
HarveyBoulevard Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 Very cool. I will have to try that out.

garbandz Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 here in North Carolina we have done this in our greenhouse. the wife planted a couple of pineapple tops, and the resulting fruit was a bit smaller than average, but was delicious .. we had a couple of lime trees as well, but the stickers on them were just a constant pain, so after a few seasons, I cut them down and tossed them on the compost. we still have a couple of fig trees and some very healthy blueberry bushes........ well done Ken, maybe you will get to enjoy the pineapple soon....... 1 2
Popular Post cgoodrich Posted February 13, 2022 Popular Post Posted February 13, 2022 Outstanding @Ken Gargett! My sister in law did the same thing in California. The plant produced 3 pineapples. 2 we’re about 80% of normal, the third was a runt at about 40% of normal. All 3 were very good. Here are my banana trees I grew when I lived in California (moved August 2020 to Idaho). It took about 3 years for the first bunch to develop, then the patch went crazy. At one time I had 6 bunches growing. The largest bunch my patch produced was 94 bananas! what’s really funny, is that I have a brown thumb and kill everything, but these just grew and grew. Tallest tree was around 5-6 meters tall. Neither my wife nor I care much for the taste of bananas. 5
Fosgate Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 I've watched some Youtube vids before on Pineapples but they will not tolerate my climate. Anyway from what I saw about 5-6 years and you'll start getting larger higher quality pineapples. 3 hours ago, cgoodrich said: Outstanding @Ken Gargett! You would be my Filipina wife's best friend either way. She loves bananas but Soba has a firmer texture and less sweet. They are great to stuff a pig with for roasting or making Pork Nilaga soup.

I didn't realize limes grew with stickers on them, I always assumed a machine or person put them on. 5

Hi @Fosgate. I have no idea what variety. I received 3 small niños from my brother in law, and these didn’t look like his for some reason. They were shorter and much fatter, firmer and less sweet. And to me they had a slight tangy/citrus taste. I’ll bet they would have been perfect for the pig. 1

She said they were Saba bananas just like the ones they had in their back yard in the Philippines. She said they were good in the dishes I mentioned but also one of their favorites was a snack. Take one just as it's ripening, boil in water and let cool, dice up and dip in Alamang https://www.amazon.com/Kamayan-Bagoong-Alamang-Salted-Shrimp/dp/B07Q3939HQ/ref=sr_1_2?crid=27A6T9U64PG06&keywords=alamang&qid=1644818572&s=instant-video&sprefix=alamang%2Cinstant-video%2C111&sr=1-2 I would have to take her word for it that that's good. 2

Do not let this heart go to waste as you can make awesome burgers from the banana heart. https://www.kawalingpinoy.com/banana-heart-burger/
