I’ve seen this on a few cigars but mostly on NC rather than CC. This is a Fuente Don Carlos Double Robusto and it had these marks on it at random spots all over the stick.

Also seen similar markings on the Opus X but having trawled the inter web I can’t find anything.

Is this anything to be worried about? It looks like glue to me although could be wrong. Didn’t seem to hurt the taste of the stick massively but it wasn’t as good as it usually is.

thanks in advance :)

I've seen similar a handful of times. Pretty confident that you are correct and its just glue, so should be just fine.

Smoke away

Thanks! I’ve never seen this on a CC only on NC and mostly Fuente in particular. Quite annoying given how much they cost in this part of the world

Can't recall if I've ever seen it on a cc, but I want to say that I have.

Never noticed it on any Fuentes that I can recall. I would expect better from them personally, even though it doesn't hurt anything. I just expect the usual very high quality from them.

Where do you live?

Based on you mentioning high prices I would have to guess Canada, UK or Hong Kong.

I understand that all 3 are very expensive, mainly due to taxes.

There is often only a UK vendor with something I'm looking for in stock, but I just refuse to pay their prices. Its outrageous. I would go without before paying UK prices

UK… I bought them before I discovered better priced online vendors. This stuck in the UK is about 32 bucks - totally outrageous

Yeah, that's like triple the cost of any U.S. online vendors.

Living there I would definitely be buying online only

Neptune Cigars is my personal favorite. Great selection, especially for singles and good overall service.

Yeah.  That's just some glue, probably from other sticks as it was jostled into the box.

Or it could be the dreaded Murder Mold that's been killing off the NC smoking population.  Might be time to work through that bucket list.  😀

I’ve seen them on CC before. I want to say sometimes they don’t become visible until the stick heats up a bit. But yeah I always just assumed it was pectin.

Did you find it any less flavourful? The stick I had wasn’t as good as it usually is but that could be just psychological :)

thanks for the reply - appreciate it 👍🏼

I have never noticed any effect on taste.
Likely just a coincidence that it wasn't as good as others.

Being an organic, hand made product, there's going to be some variation on occasion.

Perfect example was a Don Carlos 80th anniversario personal reserve that I have a handful of. Had one that was very bitter the whole time. All the ones before and after have been delicious.

Crap happens, even with high quality makers like Fuente

Smoking over the glue is fine. I just ran into this earlier on in the week with an Upmann no 2. You can see the glue on the cigar in bottom right of the pic. It still smoked fine.

No way a little pectin on the wrapper did anything to the flavor.  I'm a total slob with the stuff when I fix sticks with my own glue and it's undetectable.

Nah you can’t taste it! I’m sure that was just the usual variance.

Same here.

I tend to slather that stuff on repairs too, and never caused a problem, and have had to make many repairs as i apparently suck at getting my PerfecDraw tool to go in straight often and end up punching through the side and have to glue a piece of wrapper over it so it doesn't leak.

Exactly the same - I’ve got some Monte 1s that are plugged and some Lanceros on the way that I’m guessing will have a few plugs (glass half empty sort of guy)

Can never seem to use the PerfecDraw properly ;)

Not unusual to see traces of glue especially around the seams of the wrapper. Perfectly normal. Without it the wrapper would likely fall off, especially if you cut too much off the head.

Makes you wonder how often the rollers wash their hands... 😳

I’m not certain, but I’ve always thought this was glue. I’ve seen this on multiple Cubans actually.
Its definitely glue.

I have a couple bottles and its not uncommon to need to use some on a Cigar, and I'm pretty liberal with it, and it looks exactly like that when it dries.

Not a big deal at all

I have a box of short de punches lathered with glue.  Fingers get a little sticky when I'm smoking one and the glue around the band warms up.

Is this a gift from Bill Clinton? If so, I’d probably rinse it under the tap before you give it the ol predraw.

I don't smoke (or use) Gurkha's :)
