Why is it that machine made and short or mixed filler Cigars seem to be universally frowned upon?

Seems to me that if all the same leaves are used throughout that it wouldn't make any difference.

I smoke my share of these as winter smokes in the garage--but they do not have the depth of flavor and complexity of quality long filler cigars.

As to "why" that is, I lack the knowledge to explain it.   Hopefully some of the veterans here can do so.

Consistent progression and blend.

I enjoy short filler cigars for what they deliver. If your expectations are appropriate, enjoyment and appreciation can follow, no matter the cigar.

My only niggle with short filler cigars is that over time, they can get softer and softer, such that by the time you're down to the last inch, keeping it from totally falling apart can become a challenge.

With a long filler cigar they choose a single digit number of leaves or partial leaves and they can select them for taste and flavour. With short filler it's more or less a bunch of chopped up tobacco, they don't have that fine control.

Just to clarify, I'm certainly not putting these down at all. I smoke and enjoy a fair number of short/mixed fillers and machine mades, especially the jlp petit cazadores and Cazadores and machine made Cigarillos sized smokes

I have had good consistent luck with the machine made Cigarillos. The handmade short filler ones I haven't had such good luck, but I haven't had any JLP yet, just Quintero and Rafael Gonzales and Por Larranaga Panetelas. I think I have a couple of JLP Cazadores, to try.

Yeah, i bought 2 boxes each of the Montecristo Puritos, RyJ Puritos and Partagas Chicos and have been very pleased and surprised by them, with the exception of the 1 RyJ I have had so far was pretty bland.

I definitely like the jlp's, as well as the quinteros, RG's and por Larranagas.

Of those the Montecristo are my favourite. I like the Cohiba ones but the Shorts are a bit too short, and the Clubs are a bit too skinny...

I just had a Quintero Panatelas yesterday. Started out well with sweet tobacco, but got a little harsh soon after. Draw and burn were very good, but I kept it at lower humidity since the last Panatelas I had, had a tighter draw.

Overall the harshness reminded me a bit of cigarette smoke, and by the end of the cigar the back of my throat felt a bit rough.

*I've had nothing but pleasurable smoking experience with the machine-made, short filler mixed cigars in the past, i.e. Troya, Belinda, etc. when they could be found. I've also been gifted some native Cuban "peso" smokes (machine made as far as I know?) and didn't have any bad experience with those either.

The Montecristos are my favorite too.
Next time will likely get some of the Trinidads to try as they get a lot of good mentions.
Had some Cohiba mini bans a while ago and they weren't bad, but just didn't care for the size
Size is the reason I went with the montes, partagas and RyJs. They were a little bit longer and a little bit larger rg than the Cohibas and Trinidads

Good to know. I have enjoyed the ones i have tried to. Honestly quite good for being so cheap.
Would love to try more, like the Troya and Belinda you mention but can never find any on stock anywhere.
Do have some La Flor de Canos lined up for my next order to try for the first time
