I see you are in Vegas.  I was in Vegas last November and smoked a box of these cigars in 4 days.  It has some similarities of Monte 4 and Monte PE.  I would go with Monte PE.

Monte MC is a frustrating cigar for me. It's extraordinarily balanced and refined but that's the problem. For a cigar that size, I tend to prefer a little more punch and the Monte 5 is tough to beat. When I want something a little bigger and fuller I have to go for the PE which is just richer than the MC. The MC just kind of gets lost in the shuffle.

On the other hand, I think the RyJ Petit Royales and HU Half Coronas are perfect for their marcas. No other models close to them in size in the lineups and the RyJ PR is maybe the best RyJ cigar which is incredible to say.

Ditto. I could not have said it any better than this.

I'd go monte  13 4 5 if you want something in a bigger format along the same lines.

These are definitely great though same with the upmann half corona for those time pressed moments.

absolutely love the MMC.

to be honest I can't find a monte that has the same profile, but larger.

the closest is the PE

I would say maybe the Edmundo is the closest in blend to the MC? A little milder than the PE but just as refined and balanced.

As is the case with the MC, I don't smoke much Edmundo. Too mild for me. Recent Double Edmundo has been like a bigger PE for me and I prefer the 50 RG over the 52.

I definitely find the 43+ RG Montes to be fuller and more balanced than the 42- RG models. The 1, 3, 4 & 5 to me have been a bit one-dimensional the last few years. Monte really utilizes the larger RGs well to add balance and complexity. The MC certainly falls into that category.

I will admit, while I've enjoyed many PE's, I believe I've only ever had one Edmundo. It was brought back from Cuba from a friend, and while legit, was fresh....and just "ok".

So don't have enough experience with Ed's to compare.

I have some HUHC on the way but now I am thinking I really need to get some RyJ Petit Royales.   I got some RyJ Short Churchills.   How do you think the Petite Churchills compare to the Petite Royales?

I’ve never had a petit churchill but I’ve had several petit royales and they have been excellent.  I bought 2 boxes during a clearance blowout deal in 24:24 a while ago and I am very happy that I did.

You won't be disappointed with the PR outside of them being far too short! To me, they're exactly what the MC is for Monte--smooth, complex and refined with real RyJ character. Very well blended. They're a delight outside of the price which is a tad higher than it should be. Like I said, I'd put the PR blend against any RyJ model. If the PR blend was used for the Ex 3 they'd be a daily smoke for me.

As for the PCs, I've never had a good one. They have more bite than the PR but the ones I've had have been quite muddled and a bit bitter.

Big difference. The Edmundo has its fans of course but the PE is widely considered the superior cigar. As Rob usually notes, many consider the PE to be the best Monte of all. I'm not sure if I'm in that camp but I certainly wouldn't argue hard against that view. Of course it's a bit small for some and those who like a mellower cigar would certainly prefer the Edmundo. But they are two very different blends and always have been.

Recent Double Edmundos have fit the bill for a larger PE for me. Maybe just a tad less rich than the PE but the size and evolution of the DE makes up for it. And I very much prefer the 50 RG to the Edmundos' 52.

Any recent evidence on Double Edmundo construction issues? I've heard they are often plugged. I'm deep on #2 and Edmunds's and love them both. Shied away from DE because of construction complaints in years past.

Recent DEs have been fine for me. Hadn't heard any consistent complaints about construction. The only negative things I ever heard about them were flavor related and only for the first few years after release. 17-19 production has been very good to excellent IMO.

For some reason, this cigar always seems to be overlooked. There are few devotees of it and no one ever really talks about it. The price is the same as the regular Monte lineup per weight. I love the vitola as a "larger" cigar as I do the Gorditos. Maybe it's still a victim of the bad reviews it frequently got early on. I admit, I didn't start getting into them until 17.

Lovely little cigar. I'd forgotten I had these April 17s so thought I'd fire one up with a morning coffee. Smooth, slightly sweet, defined Montecristo flavour all the way. I've always thought of it as the mini Edmundo and the flavour profile, to me, is very similar. Never tried the DE but (as mentioned above) it does seem to be strangely underreported, might just have to get my mitts on a few. 58b0d9aada1e4a2dc3c9982e0c3a9919.jpg
