How do I store a 50 cab?

Hey guys I do not have a humidor. I only use large boveda bags which is great for any box of cigars but too small for a 50 cab. 
what is the best way to store a 50 cab (remaining in the box) whilst preserving a good level of humidity? (70percent)

Get a lockable airtight tupperware that will fit them. Throw in you boveda. Done. I like lock and lock brands. 

I have about 5 of these suckers in my office.

These come in all shapes and sizes. Throw in a few Boveda packs, perhaps some spanish cedar you have lying around from cigar boxes to help retain moisture and stabilize the environment - and Boom! goes the dynamite.

Do you plan to leave the cab as is or smoke from it too (in the near term)?  You could vacuum seal the cab and that'll buy plenty of time to secure long term storage.

I would suggest an airtight container, similar to the one in this link from amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CY53M4U/ref=twister_B07TFRHK2H?_encoding=UTF8&th=1. You may want to check dimensions to make sure the 50 cab you have will fit. As an alternative, you can also use any portable cooler with a lid that seals. This is how I store my boxes and the coolers hold excellent humidity without any issues. Throw in a couple of Boveda packs and you are good to go!

 

On another note, I would suggest keeping them at something less than 70%. I keep mine at 62-63% and they smoke much better. 70% is what the “experts” have said for years but I (and many others) have found that 62-65 is much better for burn and flavor.

Get a Coleman marine extreme 120qt cooler for $49 on amazon. They fit approx 750 sticks per cooler (in the original boxes). And they hold humidity perfectly. Cabs, dress, nature boits, etc.

Coolers/ice chests are definitely my preference. They are dirt cheap in the winter.

These work great! That's where I store my boxes. In the process of seasoning my second to finish my long term storage plan. It holds 4..25 count square boxes and 4 rectangular square 25 count boxes quite nicely. These containers have little slats on the sides that you can put panels of spanish cedar! They smell like heaven. Slap some bovedas and you're good to go! Just need to figure out how to get some airflow going and i'm set!

If you plan more purchases or have a decent amount already, get the cooler. Clean it with baking soda and distilled water and you’re done. Easy as can be with as many Boveda 65 you want to toss in.

Thank you for the great advice everybody, i have been using a large zip lock bag the last couple of days and humidity is at 64, will look into some of these options being put forth.

any advice as to what boveda level i should throw in? currently using 69

64 is perfect. I use 65 bovedas. They hold at 64-66

Hi Dan, two things I would mention. I’ll preface this by saying I’m hardly a storage expert and I may have misunderstood. But, if I understood your first post correctly, I would not store cigars by sticking a Boveda inside of the cigar box. You really need something that encloses the entire box itself for long term storage. Like these plastic boxes or coolers others have suggested. 

Also, sticking the cab in a ziploc is better than nothing short term, but again you really should get a plastic box or cooler to put them in. And I would think one Boveda pack inside of a box just large enough to hold the cab would actually do just fine.

Plastic Weathershield-type boxes with a Boveda is a very cheap, simple, and effective method of storage in my opinion.
