So I’ve got these brothers. Best blokes in the whole world. We’re all different yet all the same. We’ve been through some good times. Been through some sad times. Helped each other. Of course mostly bagged the crap out of each other.

Recently another great bloke funded a cigar club membership in a city that is otherwise locked down in terms of places you can enjoy a smoke. So some of these brothers of mine have started going to this cigar lounge. The thing is, this lounge has a range of probably 20 cigars. Half of which are non Cuban. Unfortunately it is my sad duty to inform you that these brothers have fallen to heathenous non Cuban leaf.

What’s the appropriate way to break up with these traitors? ?

Is there an exorcism to purge the Nicaraguan Demon?

Please send your thoughts and prayers. ???

A public flogging with wet Cuban tobacco stems. They must also be marked with a scarlett "NC", to show all their shame.

After 20 years, I have had a similar journey.

Started out with NC, cast them aside for Cuban cigars in snobby fashion but now?

I reach for mostly NC (Nicaraguan) cigars better than half of the time. Not all make the cut, there are some stinkers out there.

I just cant get into nicuraguan. I've tried tatuaje, warped, illusione, padron, my father. Nothing appeals. A lot seem to be ligero bombs without being a flavor bomb. I have found much more pleasure out of dominican, la aurora, davidoff, fuente and lfd seem to be more in my wheelhouse, but they basically cost the same or more than cubans. Rare NCs... pffft, a joke to swindle like EL or Regionals, but at much more cost for much less satisfaction.

Next time you hold Steve down and I’ll stamp his forehead.

So I'm fairly new to CC's and I'm still learning to identify flavors but I know what I like when I smoke it.  I'm "transitioning" to CC's but have yet to find one that compares (flavor wise) to my favorite NC'c, Padron 1926 maduro #9, #6, and natural #2.  I know it's mostly subjective but can anyone recommend some.  With my budget I want to be sure I'm spending $$ on something I think I'll like, as most would.  So what CC's might keep me on the Cuban side of the fence?

Just by looking at the photo you can tell that drink is to blame for leading these poor souls astray. A good flogging and perhaps some time in the salt mines should set them on the straight and narrow!

Understanding the sarcasm, while my purchases have been about 90/10 CC vs NC for the past year, that's because I already amassed a really nice collection of NC and wanted to give another country a shot. I do enjoy many of the unique traits of CC and to be honest, the surprise of one being great and the next being an unsmokable turd is actually kind of fun. At first it frustrated me like crazy, but then I smoked a Padron 1926 (my personal favorite) and it was exceptional. It always is. It always tastes very close to the same. It burns to a level of perfection, I figure cigar elves must be dancing around touching up after every puff, because that's the only logical explanation. Again, same with an Olive Serie V or a Fuente...anything. Flawless. But I know what I'm going to get with those relatively nice cigars, so I have less excitement while smoking them.

On the CC side, I tried to smoke a Punch Punch tentpole last night. After removing enough tobacco with a PerfecDraw that I could have made my own minuto, I gave up because it was clear it just wasn't happening. (a damn near 2mm thick stem that was unable to be massaged out or removed didn't help either). It sat half-smoked in the ashtray next to a horribly underfilled half smoked Short Churchill, which so far, 5/6 from the box have been. But I hit a HdM Petit Robusto next that made me believe the Lord wants me to be happy. It was incredible.

CC are like a blind date where a friend is trying to hook you up. There is a chance that he's setting you up with a mustached girl who sweats cheese curd. But every once in awhile your friend does you a solid and sets you up with the perfect fit and when he does, it makes you want to forgive him for ole Cheese Curd.

Leave your former brothers to their own demise in the den of non Cuban cigars .  That just means more good options for the rest of us!

With zero intent of antagonism or derision, if you like those cigars.... why chase something else that might be similar? Why not enjoy those, and take some time to do a little Cuban exploration?

Sound advice, thanks.  Exploration is my intent and plan to enjoy the process, just hoping to cut some corners.  Nothing worse than settling down on a Friday night after a long week, anxiously looking forward to lighting up, then when you do, it fizzles.  Suppose cigars are like kids, you love them unconditionally yet they can disappoint from time to time.

if it fizzles, don't fight it, toss it.

biggest rookie mistake is fighting a cigar.

your time is more valuable than your cost of the cigar (any cigar).

toss it and spark up the next one.
